The 2019 Sport hatchback has a 180hp 1.5 turbo, while the sedan has the 2.0 158hp NA engine. Why the hell does Honda do this ?
@YasssStitch5 жыл бұрын
Because the 1.5t 180hp is shit and will always be shit while the 2.0 NA is spectacular, has that vTEC grunt and loves to rev. And it will last forever.

2.0 has greater potential. I'm a tech at honda and if I had to choose between the 2 I'd choose the n/a civic. 22 less horsepower but vtec, can just throw boost the 2.0 and be at a healthy 250+hp.

The sport trim has that i-Vtec which is such a miraculous thing. But to experience that Vtec kicking in, one needs to go past 5k RPM hard and fast. That's how an enthusiast would drive. There's a whole different feel to it. Naturally aspirated Vtec engine is also gonna last way longer than the turbo one. These days, people are falling for fancy seats and red accents and badging and stickers! Real drivers would definitely give more importance to the engine mill which is the heart of the matter! Glad to see they're at least having manual transmissions. Not a fan of CVT transmissions that are made for grannies! Well put together video though...

I’ve come to realize that its opinion on transmissions but MT for me. It makes the car driving experience. I typically buy new and my last 9 auto purchases (6 new cars) have been MT. Automatic is a deal breaker for me. So why is there the concern for the turbo charged engine? In general, automotive engineering design is easy today than the past. Computerized material stress models predict engine part failure without all the trial and error . A turbocharged engine gets more air/fuel with smaller displacement , resulting In higher compression and more horsepower. But it is also a more efficient combustion. Better fuel economy. Today’s turbos provide boost at lower rpms. No more need to redline the engine for power. I was concerned about the turbo too but tried out a Hyundai Veloster R-Spec turbo and have no issues at 52K miles. Most of my driving is fuel economy. Very pleased with the turbo so far.
@abskulOfficial5 жыл бұрын
@@bobharlsey7940 Good to know that you're finding turbo engines reliable. But, turbos and superchargers put immense pressure into the engine components. Now if you change your engine oil regularly, don't drive hard, then yeah, these engines would last fairly. Do your own research about the EcoBoost Mustangs vs 5 liter naturally aspirated Mustangs. Latter ones last way longer and are way reliable than the EcoBoost ones. Same goes with the Ford F150. The EcoBoost engine is terribly unreliable and money eater, whereas the naturally aspirated counterpart of F150 is proven way way reliable AND pulls and tows better. I can't explain everything here, but do your own research and you'll find out. Cheers!

The only thing I hate about the SI this generation is that it shares so much with regular civics. There is not enough differentiating the SI to show superiorority. The red gauges should be reserved for SI. It should have specified SI wheels. Should have shared the type r steering wheel. I wish engine was detuned 2.0t @ 250 hp. I own a 19 SI. I love it. But the clutch is so weak it's sad. It is the same clutch they are using in regular civics with less power. Super light. But with a ecu flash it's already showing signs I need something stronger. I just wish they would have improved something's.
@bushisahomo5 жыл бұрын
I agree. mine is a 17 and at that time only the Si came with the balck grille, but not anymore. def needs a better clutch and more hp. still a fun , inexpensive car with great reliability and gas mileage though

It was pretty bad, way less power. A lot less practical. Let's be real these cars are completely different classes. The SI for me is a compromise. It means I can have my cake and eat it too! Basically I have a practical 4 Dr sedan with tons of space, and I lts a demon when I get on it. It's tuneable.... It responds extremely well to mods... And if I commute I still get 34 to 40mpg when I'm not putting my foot down. 😁... Win win win....

The front end and rear end is different. Bigger brakes, higher compression, and the biggest deal maker is the factory equip LSD. The si dynos at 200hp so Honda rated their motors very conservatively. If all you care about is the clutch and gauges you’re trippin.

Also what about the direct injection in the Si in terms of longevity and the carbon build up issue on the intake valves.
@Tjtjboy5 жыл бұрын
@General Mosquito Spray I am sure the new si will go well over 200,000 miles trouble free with regular maintenance. I just believe that turbo charger will wear out eventually and it won't be cheap to replace it. The Si has a smaller engine working hard for 205 horsepower while the sport is relaxing making less horsepower with a larger engine than the si. Not saying I'm right. Just my thoughts.
@Tjtjboy5 жыл бұрын
@General Mosquito Spray One last thing to consider. I have a 2014 Civic Si. It also makes 205 horsepower naturally aspirated using a 2.4 liter engine. I personally believe going with a larger engine is better in the long run for horsepower than using a turbo. I even believe my 2014 si can out last the new si in mileage.

I would definitely get the Civic SI. It’s a bit faster, better looking , and it’s safer

Honda needs to make a SI hatch for those that want the SI performance but not a fan of the coupe/sedan and don't want to go HAM and get a CTR... while also not having to compromise and get a sport hatch with watered down interior amenities. And while we're at it.. #savethemanuals

Boils down to one thing... the Engine. If you want the turbo, get the SI If you want N/A, get the Sport You could make the same argument for the Sport Hatchback as well + Cargo space, if that’s your thing. Personally I would rather have a WRX Premium for 5k more than the SI. Or just step up and get the Type R, assuming you can find one.

*whoa the si is more powerful whattt*
@nb06165 жыл бұрын
I think we all knew the si would have more power but that is a fairly large gap in bhp. More to the point, why call a car "sport" when it has such a watered down performance? They could have gave it a 180bhp with slightly less handling, breaking etc. This whole concept just ruins the intrinsic superiority of the si, taking many of its looks and qualities without any merit. A better idea would be to model the Ford focus st/ Ford fiesta st in their line up. Maybe a fit si or just scrap the whole thing because it's like a body v6 mustang/ Camaro but worse. After all, they already have the type r and the si. But having a hot hatch would be cool in my opinion.

I think Honda killed the SI line. They took away the one thing that made the SI an SI and that was the actual Vtec hitting hard at 5500-5800 rpm. They shouldve just put another k20 in it and some slightly better internals than previous generations and have it push like 215hp so it can stay relevant. But they did go the right way with the body style and looks tho.

@Chelle yeah, I had a 09 as well. To me that k20 and body was just so good. They are going for pretty cheap now too

Actually really glad to get this information bc i waa curious what the difference were. I slightly like hatchback look better but the deal breaker the me is the turbo, and tuning, limited slip differential, and adaptive suspention dampers which actually is a huge difference of performance wise whixh means unfortunately I'll have to skip the sport hatch, for the SI seda i dont want honda sensing anyway. Just hope they still have the lane chamge camera.

Civic here in middle east comes with 1.6L as base, and 2.0L as mid snd the highest is 1.5T. Why would they keep 1.6L as a base, why not a standard 2.0L as a base. 1.6L would put out only 123 hp.
