The toilet backed up into the tub last weekend. I told the wife I had the perfect solution with the strippy chair. So now I gotta fix the toilet. The weekend from Heck continues, tons of things have gone wrong and continue to go wrong.

Previously I lived in a dry part of rural "almost outback" of Australia. Those "Evaporative" style air conditioners use just a fraction of the electricity, about one tenth, of the Refrigerant type air conditioners. They use some water yes, but just a few gallons (don't worry, NOT hundreds of gallons !) At 16% Humidity your air is "desert dry" and Evaporative air conditioners work great. To be comfortable for humans, normally a relative humidity inside the house is recommended to be between 50% and 70% is recommended. Always allow some fresh air with a window or screen partly door open in the room or nearby, so that using an Evaporative air cooler, the humidity does not build up too much. They reduce the air temperature coming out of them by about 12 degrees Celsius or 22 Fahrenheit. By the time the air goes into a room, you'll get somewhat less than that. Perhaps 10 C or 18 F. So on a day when it is 38 C / 100 F outside and you walk inside your house and it is just 28 C / 82 F then it feels downright cool ! Evaporative coolers often have a switch position so that you can use them just as a fan, without the water circulating over the absorbency filters, during rare occasions of wet or humid weather. That one you installed in the window is intended to do just one large room. In Australia they often had a roof mounted unit intended to do a whole 4 bedroom home. They used to advertise that you can air cool your home for just 5 cents per hour of electricity (consider a Refrigerant type air conditioner costs about 50 cents an hour to cool one medium size room) I'm actually surprised you can use the refrigerant type unit at all on your old batteries. They absolutely just eat up electricity by comparison. The actual need for them is in Humid air regions NOT desert/semi arid (Humid regions mostly in much of the South-Eastern and some other parts of the USA). There will be no trouble using an Evaporative cooler all night long on your batteries. they use barely any more than a large portable fan. Even the larger rooftop, whole-of-home cooling models consume barely any more electricity than your window sized unit. Just leave them jogging along with their speed control/thermostat set to half or 3/4 and they'll run forever. At full speed, the roof mounted ones claim they do a complete air exchange through the house every 2 minutes. Remember that every room with an evaporative cooler, must allow for some outside air exchange. A flyscreened window left just partly open will be enough, or a door open into a neighbouring room, with said window partly open. I lived almost 20 years in the almost outback of Australia, in an uninsulated old house, and used the larger portable models of Evaporator which I refilled several times a day with a kitchen bucket. On wheels they can be moved around to different rooms (easier to move when not entirely filled with water). During the hottest time of year I ran them 20 hours a day 6am thru to 2am. Don't knock lead-acid batteries. With the battery terminals cleaned up and cables replaced only if absolutely needed, those batteries will do you for a while yet !

it’s time to deal with the power issue. easiest thing to do is take all the jumpers off the 6V batteries and clean the terminals and lugs, then put it all back together and see if the battery has lower resistance now and the inverter can draw more power from it

You have a problem with the sulphate build up on your battery terminals. You need to pour boiling water over them to dissolve the sulphate, then (disconnect) and clean the contacting surfaces at the terminals, replacing any which have been eaten away. Preferably you then put anti-sulphate grease over the terminals, do not get the grease on the contacting surfaces. Your regime of keeping them topped up with distilled water was a good move.

Made my day to see a new video from you today! Little ER tip for those tiny little hair like cactus splinters. Use the warm wax sold for hair removal. Carefully spread some over the area with the cactus splinters(try not to break them off while spreading the wax) and when it's ready, peel it off and the splinters come with it. If you have a bunch in the same area, it'll get them all in 1 go. Don't laugh it works and it's totally worth it to not have to suffer the pain of waiting for them to fester out.

That is a great idea. For tiny metal slivers, I use gorilla tape......yep, if it is stuck and you don't want it stuck, tape it. The adhesive sticks to the sliver and gets into the pores of skin and it all comes out when the tape is pulled off.

Both binder and chain rating at *least* 1/4 the GVWR of the machine you are hauling. PB Blaster is a great lubricant for binders. You could use you JD to build a dock to back up to so you can just come straight back off the trailer without even having to deploy ramps :)

Watching this from the European countryside, and it's kinda amazing just how similar a lot of the stuff you guys out there in the US countryside go through with things like water, septic tanks, and equipment. Most city people really don't get just how different life is barely minutes away from population centres. Everything is more of a faff, even small things like fixing a pipe or changing a lightbulb, because it involves an hour of travel just to pick something up from the store. Luckily we got hooked up to national water a few years back so we don't have to worry about that anymore (we had basically the same water system as you before, though with a concrete tank instead of a plastic one), but we're on our own for the septic tank. Thankfully, our government offers a service where they come and empty it out every 2-3 years and we can pay 50€ for them to come sooner if necessary, though it gets kinda cheek-clenching if it starts filling up during winter, when the truck can't drive up to our house ;). Anyways, it's gonna be awesome watching you renovate the place, and I'm looking forward to watching it.

Did the Septic Guys happen to point out where your Drain-field is? You'll don't want to dig that up with the backhoe. Not bringing a stack of gloves out to ranch when you were going to deal with cactus is one, the other was not filling up the tractor when you had it in town. I would suggest a army surplus diesel generator at some point and some 55 gallon drums of road and dyed diesel with a pump at the ranch or pickup tank version of the same. Got to have been a hell of a weekend, most people probably would have driven back into town that night in the other truck.

I already wrote it: Baking Soda and water AFTER you remove all those cables dunk them in the solution. Clean battery posts with automotive battery post cleaner (tool). Reassemble and you should be very good. If corrosion reappears in a short while, coat each connection with wheel bearing grease (yes I know it is messy, but it will prevent the electrical degradation caused by the corrosion). When Model A Fords were the way to cross the desert you went at night, to keep the battery charged you had to adjust the generator output, often it was overcharging the battery and the corrosion would do as yours. The solution was to coat the connections with wheel bearing grease.

Look into a rechargeable power station like Bluetti or similar. They have some powerful power stations that could run your AC all night and recharge off your solar during the day. Gotta redo all of those crusty wires first. Also, you need a "Kill-a-watt" electricity tester. Some appliances like AC, refrigerators and microwave ovens say that they are only 700 watt but when they first turn on they peak really high at start up. A "700 watt" kept overloading a 1100 watt invertor. Watching the energy input, it went up over 1260 watts when starting and then fell back down to 600 watts or so running. We had to upgrade the inverter to 2000 watts.

Hey, your channel is my favourite, also I think an issue you might be having is that the terminals on your batteries have a lot of stuff on them, and that can cause low power output and higher resistance, I would clean them off and to save money you could get a small multimeter to check which batteries are at higher than 12 volts, a healthy battery should be 13-14 volts so going through each battery to see what’s below that number you wouldn’t have to replace the whole battery bank, a simple cleaner for battery corrosion is baking soda mixed with water, and you can spray it or pour it on each terminal to dissolve the corrosion, and if you have an air compressor you could use the air to spray away the liquid leftover from cleaning, because a system at that size should have no problem with the amount of amps each battery outputs, also I can’t remember if your batteries are in series or parallel, I know that small outlets in the states are 120v, so also check if you’re getting 120v from your outlets with a multimeter, if you’re not then that’s also an issue, and most likely your batteries have been run in parallel if that’s the case, I believe a proper 120v battery bank would be to run some of your batteries in series to get to 120v and then configure the remaining batteries into parallel to increase ah and wh, because parallel doesn’t increase voltage you could have 20 batteries hooked up in parallel and still have 12 volt, but you would have incrementally larger ah and wh with each battery added in parallel.

Either that, or you edited the hell out of it. 😁 But now we know where the poop go, and it's not the tub this time.

I guess your channel came up in my feed, because of my subscription to a host of aviation channels. The tour of the hangars video caught my eye 4 days ago. Since then I've been going through the videos relevant to the ranch & have been thoroughly engrossed. It looks like your subscriber base has grown exponentially with this series of videos & it's obvious as to why. I haven't been able to work out your names yet, but somewhere it must be similar to my surname. Great videos. I've still got a few hours watching until I'm up to speed with the ranch.

Hello, new to your channel. Someone once told me a good idea. When using a swamp cooler, put louvers in the ceiling and let the cool air go in the attic it cools the attic and helps keep the house cooler. I thought it might cause the attic to get damp. I thought about runnning the air in bug pipe through the attic and the pipe would help cool the attic, but it is vented also and the hottest place in the house, so it stays dry. I did it, and it worked for me. I did not run it through pipe.

Great testimonial, thanks. The new way with AC is to get rid of the hottest heat using ventilation instead of wasting energy and time cooling it. Open a high window, like when in the car to let the hottest air out while you fire up the AC. A ceiling vent with a small fan going out. It's a balance and should ideally be monitored and tweaked by a handy person. I still suggest an attic fan. That's 1000W per square metre of hot sun radiating downwards into the living quarters all night like a solar oven. Your idea takes care of both the swamp cooler's need to push air out of the house, and uses it efficiently to remove attic heat. One could simply open the attic access hatch on the ceiling and put in a screen.

Get some battery acid distilled water and a specific gravity measuring tool and check all the batteries and add water or acid as needed. You should setup a PO box so viewers can send you anthra...i mean helpful things like tools, nuts and bolts, self tappers, screws, wiring terminals etc.

We had a septic on the ranch and you don't put any Clorox products in any toilet or drain and use Blueing in the washing machine for white clothes. Your aim is not to kill off the aerobic action in your septic system

One thing you might want to think about getting for a backup to the solar system is an mep 1040 10kw diesel generator make sure it’s one set up for the desert.

If I had that place, I would kind of maybe save up for a real kick ass generator to have on hand. Andrew Camarada just bought a great big one that can only be moved around with like a tractor. It’s really nice diesel generator. You can run a small city on it.😅

@@garysoykin2783 generator is good for bad weather/low solar days, but the sun is free, and generates most of the power he needs, plus much quieter and no diesel/gas costs.. once he cleans battery terminal corrosion and replaces bad battery jumpers, he’ll be good to go for a while.. eventually he’s going to get some Lithium Iron Phosphate (LifePO4) packs, those have much higher energy density as you can charge them to %100 and use them down to %0, Lead Acid is only a %50 DOD (Depth Of Discharge)

Tip for the front-end loader, when you pull the finger pincher 9000 pins out to swap the forks or bucket the little bracket with a hole about 6 inches above where they lock in is to store them when not in use or goinnto the next implement, just so you don't set them down and lose them like I have 3 times.

Suggest you leave septic hatch accessible. Drop a plastic septic filter into your T. They are made to fit and cheap. Clean it once a year, it pulls right out. Your field may be plugged if the 'crust' flowed over the top of the T. Some experts drop 60 gallons of hydrogen peroxide into the field, through a separate vent pipe it should have to let it breathe as it is aerobic not anaerobic. Be especially careful not to wash cooking grease or any oil down the sink. It clogs the field sand. Use a foot pedal rectangular garbage can beside the toilet to put your neatly folded TP in. You'd be surprised how it adds up! Don't expect guests to follow this advice - they will pretend to listen, but will dismiss your instructions until hell freezes over. You could direct them to the lawn chair! Also, I suggest taking a insight from the local workers outfit, wear jeans and boots. You can leverage your weight to move things better, and try to get used to gloves, especially with bitey little animals everwhere. Good advice from my garbageman job boss; "don't put your hands anywhere you wouldn't put your penis."
