I worked for a safe smith off and on when he needed help on big jobs and I probably have opened a couple thousand safes of all shapes and sizes and one thing that never ceases to amaze me is what you will find in an old abandoned safe. One of the oddest ones was when the safe smith I worked with off and on got a call to open 20 safes inside a house of a elderly gentleman who had dementia and his kids finally moved him from his house to their house because of his declining health. Anyway this old Victorian style house was every bit of 6,000 square feet inside and had an entire wing of that had nothing but 14 10*12 rooms and two full bathrooms and in every room was a safe about 2/3 the size of the one in the video as well 2 other jewelers style safes and two more extremely large safes that were in the basement. Anyway the job turned out to be easy because above each safe written in pencil was the combinations for each safe writing in a shaky hand written that we guess the old man who owned the property had written down so he could remember the combo’s which actually is not as unusual as you might think. That said every safe in this house was filled with cans of Maxwell house coffee. The story we latter learned was as this gentleman’s mind was going he thought the caregivers taking care of him were stealing the coffee so he would lock it up in the safes. I kid ye not but there was a one can of coffee that was 25 years old. The real hoot is on the top of the largest safe in the basement was a cardboard box with 50,000 dollars in it most of which were new bills still in federal reserve bank wrapper bands and a fair bit were silver certificates.

I grew up in the coal region of PA. I do sand mining now on the Easternshore of Maryland. But back in the 90s I remember a demo crew found gold coins in a wall of the building from the 1700s in mount Carmel pa. The demo crew and owner at that time 90s ended up going to court fighting who would get the gold coins. Not sure what happened but I believe the owner ended up with it. Long time ago lol. You just never know what you will find in a demo job

Good video Ryan. Anxious to see the sorting line running. Hey, use water with a heavy dose of dishwashing liquid, put them into a super soaker water cannon. They can’t fly, immediately fall to the ground and die. Much safer than wasp spray, in my experience. I’ve even used 16.9oz water bottles with soap. Drill a small hole in the cap and squeeze it fast and hard. You can spray it 20’.

About 40 years ago our company was doing some remodel work the Colorado Institute of Art. It was a building, probably from the 50's and had been the administration building for Denver Public Schools. We were more or less gutting the building for the Art Institute's new Music Video program. There was an old 5 or 6 foot tall, 3 feet wide safe that the Institute wanted to repurpose. The safe was open but no one knew the combination and I said I could probably figure out the combination so they said "Go for it!" I pulled the inside cover off and did figure out the combination but inside I found 2 glass capsules, about the size of very big cigars, that were 3/4 full of liquid. After showing all my co-workers the capsules we decided they were probably filled with tear gas and great care was taken removing them. We ended up tossing them up in the air in the parking lot and sure enough, as soon as they shattered I got a familiar smell of almond extract that I had first smelled about 20 years before this when someone set off a tear gas bomb in a stairwell at school as a senior prank. And yes, all of us in that parking lot we're tearing up BIG TIME!🥲
