I've had mine for over two years. I use it all the time, and recently bought the smaller 270 piece kit to keep in my truck. These are good hand tools, with a lifetime warranty. When my dad saw the 290 set, he said it reminded him of the old craftsman sets. This is not a replacement for a full on roller cart, but can keep you going in a tight spot.

It is awesome that this set features a 1/4" to 3/8" socket adapter. Those are almost never included in these sets. I have had to buy them separately and toss them into my travel kits. Of course, the problem you have with most of these tool sets that come in blow-molded cases is that there's no room for extras, so I also travel with a small tool bag into which I put the stuff not already found in the factory set. It is so cool that this set has a place to put extensions, etc, in that middle drawer.

good review, I'm looking at this set, like you, I'm not big on the use of plastic latches. So I'm thinking, maybe employ a 1" wide ratchet or lashing strap when carrying the set from place to place? this would solve the risk of everything spilling out if one of the plastic bits gives up the ghost...

Great video. My friend has this set but the drawers are in red and the sockets on the first drawer (from top) interfere with the drawer’s housing when he tries to close that drawer (I think so small sockets are too tall for that drawer. That was a nice review. This is not a set I would buy, even just as a portable set. It is too heavy on the SAE sizes and the metric selection is poor, even trying to hit the most common ones. This is not suited for newer cars, although the bits on the top, especially the torx, are nice. The cars I typically work on are year 2000+, and I rarely ever reach for SAE sizes. I most often use SAE sizes on performance parts on my Camaro, or on tools like pullers.... which is a bit out of scope for a set like this. Another item which most sets overlook are lug nut sockets.
@HerbOMatic2 жыл бұрын
I have a dedicated sae set when I go out on vending machine repairs because they are the opposite of cars: made in USA and all sae hardware. So it's a waste of weight and space to pack the metric. I wish they made dedicated sets for a reasonable price.

Old school mechanic here, I purchased the husky 290pc set to see what the hype is about. Got to say quite disappointed. The only good thing was that I got it on sale for $129.99. When I did an overview of the wrenches & sockets. Was very disappointed, who ever decided to to put 12pt & 6pt in the mix, did it entirely wrong. The metric & SAE set up with sockets of 12pt & 6pt were wrong. So what I did was gutted the whole sockets & wrenches from the tool box and restart fresh. For the Metric I went with 12pt, & for the SAE I went with 6pt. For wrenches I went with Gearwrench Metric 12pt ratcheting wrenches, and Olsa 6pt SAE ratcheting wrenches which by the way fit perfectly in the molded slots. For Metric sockets deep & shallow I went with Gearwrench in 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4. And for the SAE I went with Tekton 6pt sockets deep & shallow in 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4. Which both brand name sockets fit perfectly in the molded slots. For my drive ratchets, I went with Tekton 90th 1/2in & 3/8in release button drive ratchets. And for my 1/4in drive ratchet I went with Gearwrench 120xp.which also fit well in the molded slots. As far as the long compartment were the allen bits are stored, I removed those and went with Gearwrench 20pc extension set & the Husky 100th 3/8 locking flex head drive ratchet. Which fit perfectly in that compartment space. Overall best tool organization set up for me, but hay that's just my opinion. But overall cool review.
