The mythology behind Hercules is a way to explain schizophrenia. Hercules, according to mythology killed his family twice. But in the tv series, he is a divinity with the strength of 7 men. Now Xena acts like a semi god and Hercules is a man with super strength. I think has a lot to do with the directors and combat stage directors. But I still watch both series. I am fascinated by both mythology accounts. I am waiting for e some type of sequel. Glenda.

I was 31 when the Action Pack first came on tv. Saturday tv was the best. Briscoe County Jr., Highlander, Babylon 5, Star Trek NG, Hercules, Xena. Living alone, I guess the tv was my friend. And it never let me down. We can't ever go back, but if I could, I'd go back to 1993. I was free to do as I please. No internet or cell phones, but a good job, video games, an apartment, good Chinese food within walking distance and Saturday tv. No problems, no issues, no strife or stress. Just freedom.

Kevin Sorbo's Hercules was much like Superman. Not looking to enslave humanity, but looks at them as his equal and is willing to help them out however he can and does not give up, no matter if it's a warlord, one of his corrupt deity family members, or Dahak. An unyielding champion of justice.

What i liked about Hercules is it reminded me of the 80s classic He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. Fighting, challenges, good vs evil, dealing with daily issues, good morals and messages by the end of the show. Xena was good and i like it as well, but they made her show more "adult" in theme, which was fine. BUT Hercules sits better with me as far as the "feelings" go..

i remember watching this as a kid and young adult and loving every moment of it . my mom always read mythology and folklore as a kid so i instantly loved seeing it brought to life even if some things had to be changed. the one thing that stuck with me after watching Hercules was to do your best for people and help whoever you can even when the odds are stacked against you . ever since watching this as a youth(im 35 now) ive always tried to help people whether its paying for someone's items at a market randomly just to be nice, move someone's vehicle that broke down or change a tire. this show had a profound impact on me even to this day. i also felt i relatability to hercules because like him i never knew my father and while i had a good life i have had my share of turbulent times to. i know its type casting but seeing any of the cast from Hercules or xena in other media feels strange . the actors were perfect in their roles and i guess nostalgia keeps me from seeing them in anything else like those memories we have as children ,frozen in time unable to be changed . for anyone interested they can watch a tribute to Kevin Smith that aired in New Zealand on youtube

I was 8 or 9 when the show came out. I have a fond memory of being in the home of my childless neighbors (they were some of the nicest people I’ve still ever met to this day) who would let the neighborhood kids come to their house to hang out. Since they were childless at the time they had a huge aquarium, all kinds of cool gadgets and things, and a few pets. One day while I was over there, my neighbor was watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. I thought it was the coolest show I had ever seen. She told me the name and when I got home my mom helped me find the air time by looking through TV Guide and she and I watched it together so she could make sure it was “appropriate”. She thought it was great that I was enjoying Greek Mythology and I’ve been interested in mythology ever since. This is such a great show and it holds up surprisingly well even today although it would probably be too “campy” for some younger viewers nowadays. I haven’t seen the show in forever so thanks to this video being on my recommendations I now plan on going back and rewatching the whole series. Thank you!

But there are also actors from all three TV series that do voice acting roles in the hack n' slash game called Path of Exile. Such as Michael Hurst(in Hercules as Iolaus) voicing Izaro, and Brooke Williams(in Spartacus as Aurelia) voicing Merveil.

I was watching this when I was a kid in foreign countries. This show and Xena were huge worldwide, even my parents watched it regularly. Having rewatched the series recently for nostalgia's sake I can say that the first two seasons plus the movies are great. Anthony Quinn as Zeus added so much to this series. When he was no longer in it starting in season 1 I think that it damaged the overall show. But that being said the cast was still good and the show was entertaining enough that it did surprisingly well to keep me binge watching it. Season 3 started to slow down the show, but it was still watchable. Season 4 had its problems and I think that this is when Kevin Sorbo had his massive stroke. Still I think that a lot of good characters and actors managed to carry the series. For example Michael Hurst was great, even in the episodes that it was only him. I think it was season 5 that I said what the heck is going on here. It really looked like the show was running out of steam in season 5. So season 6 was much shorter and it was clear that they were trying to wrap it up. Still a great run and I still have nostalgia for this show even after binge watching all of it not too long ago.

This popped up on my recommended and I'm glad it did. I remember watching reruns with my mom on Sci Fi every day, along with Xena, specifically the one where Eiolis (did I spell that right?) dies and comes back possessed. A great watch and a lovely trip down memory lane.

This was great! Thanks for putting it together. I definitely shared your passion for this show while I was growing up. Also, I really appreciate you taking the time to focus on Kevin Smith. His passing was unbelievably tragic. I feel like he might have had a similar career path as Karl Urban given how talented he was.

Thank you for this trip down memory lane! I still remember what a big deal the Hercules movies were - fantasy made for TV was as rare as hen's teeth. And although both series were oftentimes cringey AF even back then, they were also groundbreaking in so many regards and are inextricably linked to that beautiful era. Imagine a show with this much personality, no abhorrent ideology and a "Whatever, let's just have fun" attitude these days - inconceivable. I really miss the eighties and nineties...

I still watch it too. Takes me back to the late 90s. I miss those days. Whenever I watch Hercules it's such a breath of fresh air compared to modern day shows.

I remember being a kid and watching this series with my Grandmother and mom. I would watch this. Xena (Who I had a huge crush on) and Highlander.
