The Jabulani Elephant Herd pick up the scent of wild elephants

On another recent windy morning, the Jabulani elephant herd welcomed Khanyisa in the early hours of the morning, as they started heading out to spend their days foraging out in the reserve.
As they headed out passed the closest dam to their stables, the herd stopped, picking up the scent of the wild elephants. Adine has noticed it is often in a similar spot, and asked Last, an elephant carer about it. He said they often urinate in that area and the herd will continue to react even if it is not very fresh.
You will notice how they also lie the tips of their trunks gently on the ground, sensing for seismic vibrations through the earth, to see if they can feel them close by.
Soon they carried on to the water's edge before heading out into the reserve for the day!
Please forgive the video sound with the wind. We use a simple iPhone 11 and do not have access to any wind control gadgets for it. :-)

@Trey you have to remember that all these grown elephants are orphants too. and why do you think they are orphants? in 99% of cases answer is : people. now, these elephants learned to distinguish "bad" apples from "good" they somehow can forgive, not forget - elephants never forget that these are the same species but better - this is what is amazing about this particular group and integration of good people who try to fix what bad people did. we all should support this movement, unfortunately this is the only thing we can do right now.

They do. When the babies circle around below their bellies, they know they are, have to know, as they are so much bigger. And during danger, they need to move, and still have the young one protected in the circle. I think they have very good senses and probably brains wired the way, that they are very aware where everyone next to them is.

you know i don't know what it is why I'm so fascinated with Elephants for! this is the way i look at Elephants, Have you ever seen a dog in a fence yard, And he keeps jumping up higher then the fence? The dog could just jump out and run away BUT He don't know that he could jump over the fence! So with Elephants They know exactly what they can and can not do! if they want to do something they will try to do it first and if they can't they will stop, Like a tree about 10in across if they know a tree that size they can push over they will push it over But if a tree is like 15 or 20 in they already know they can't push it over and they wont try to!They are so very big and so gentle at the same time

Do you know how the full grown Ele bulls can live harmoniously in the herd?! I’ve been wondering this for a while now & the only thing I can think of is they were all orphaned &/or abused & have lived around/raised by/with ppl & bc of this has changed thm. I’m sure there are arguments bc no family doesn’t fight sometimes. We all know full grown Ele bulls leave the herd bc they become aggressive & it becomes dangerous. I can’t find any vids tht explain this, so how? I’m hoping you know or can point me in the right direction.

The attentiveness to Little Khanysia at 4.24 with a gentle trunk to lead her back in front where they can keep her safer! It was so humbling to see. Then her little trunk in her "Up Periscope" mode at 11.55, to see where these wild elephants are! Just adorable! If you study elephant behavior REALLLLLLLLLL CLOSELY like me, I am a weirdo, you will notice how whenever little Khanyisa is with them, of course they always keep her in the middle, or surrounded, but look at the EYES OF MOST OF THOSE OLDER ELE'S she is surrounded by... they are constantly checking back to fixate on her as she is walking, if she speeds up - THEY SPEED UP - if she slows, - THEY SLOW - if she takes a tumble - they stop to make sure she is ok - if she kinda wanders a bit in a weird direction - AT LEAST ONE will watch her with their eyes like A HAWK and maybe stick back to let her do her thing, but follow her in case she needs backup.... I noticed this amongst other things, but if you are into things like that, I think you will be in for a treat, it is TRULY REMARKABLE. No matter what distraction there seems to be, big, small, etc. THEY ALWAYS DO THIS when it comes to the little ones with them. We know they use their trunks to communicate and "check up and on" her, where she is, making sure she is ok, that's another way to communicate, but look into their EYES, you will see something even more amazing. Sometimes it is tough unless we see them from the front view or side, but beneath those beautiful lashes, look at their EYES and watch them reallll close when around our little girl. HOW EXTRAORDINARY!

Just a pleasure to watch & know they are safe. Lundi waiting for Khanyisa is so motherly sweet. Everybody takes care of the baby, especially when they sense something is not right. 💗🐘🐘💗

Were Lundi’s copious secretions due to her being the mother of a little one? Cool to see Sebakwe, Jabulani and Somopane take up guard positions - left, right, center - when the others were continuing on to the water. Such fantastic elephants, the lot of them.

Fantastic to see Kanyisa back with her herd family, she keeps up very well on the walk with her little legs n Lundi n the others wait patiently when she falls behind 💕🐘🐘Shame wrinkles look nowhere near as good on us as our Elephants 😂🐘🐘🐘🥰

I love watching how the Elephants walk their strong wonderful legs, their incredible feet. They are so graceful they take such good care of each other. It's just a shame that you have to have guards with them. I wish that they could stop poachers for ever.

Khanyisa has the most beautiful eyes for an albino elephant! They are so mesmerizing and hypnotising that when you look at them you can't help but stare into them. So beautiful just so so beautiful! 💕🐘😍

The protective phalanx is beautiful every time I see it. So is the way they use their trunks to greet, keep track of Khanisia, calm each other, sense things, etc. Beautiful, majestic creatures.
