I think there might be an exception to the “I love that color on you!” compliment. If you are in the winter season and are wearing clear bright colors, they tend to stand out even when they harmonize with you. Especially in contrast to the soft muted colors that are in style now.

@@huntacademy3041 I think I agree. When I wore a rich royal blue I got compliments about the color but often they would then say something like “it lights up your eyes.”

100% agree. I am a winter and if I wear my proper colors I always without a doubt get a compliment on how radiant I look “in that color” because the colors of a winter stand out. They aren’t common colors in fashion today. Everywhere I go I see olive green, dusty pink. I stand out with my clothes because they aren’t what’s “in”

Bright winter here, and I need to disagree with your very beautifully crafted first hint that one might be out of the color season... Since my draping, I have really embraced my color palette, and I know that I am in my season, and I get A LOT of compliments --- BUT! I live in Germany. And please understand that Germans ...they get very awkward with compliments. I guess there is always the feeling that if something gets complimented, there needs to be a very reasonable explanation. SO I hear a lot of "This color is so pretty on you" and "What a great color top you have today" or "Oh, you're always wearing such strong colors!" and my personal favorite "You look so pretty in this color because you're dark" 🤣🤣🤣 My theory is that the culture is such that colors simply stand out, so I just take the compliment and ignore the rest... BTW; how I know the difference from wearing the wrong color? "That is a pretty blouse. Are you sick?" And these are not exaggerations. Anyways, I really enjoy your videos, and love learning how we perceive colors. Elswhere in the world. 😂

@@silvijap7 I agree here. The bright palettes are difficult to gauge based on comments non-color analysis minded people offer based off of your appearance vs the color you’re wearing. I get both comments and would be so confused if I was still DIYing my analysis…but luckily I have been draped in person and have truly seen how true chroma affects my overall appearance

I dunno, a lot of people are knowledgable about color & color seasons so if someone tells you that shade of red is flattering or looks good on you, it might be because it is & not just because they like it or it's memorable. But yeah, often people project their color preferences on you. One thing that drives me crazy about classic, minimalist & capsule wardrobe advice is all the black, white, taupe & beige. I'm a fair Warm Spring, so no thank you.

Same here. Grayish, dark and no definition. Autumn here. Light gray brings out redness in my face and colors that are too cool can sometimes make me look green. True black and my hair have a jarring disconnect. IMO deep winter colors give me dark circles. Spring colors are overwhelming on me. Summer colors outside of pastels tend to make me look pale

I have some linen trousers that I’m loathe to get rid of as they fit perfectly and are so comfortable, but, when I went out in them I got ‘oh I love your pink trousers!’ That let me know that they arrived before I did. I don’t normally wear makeup at work. The other day I put on a true winter red/pink lipstick, no other makeup. Someone I’ve seen any number of times before in my job told me that my eyes are amazing and a lovely green. She never noticed my eyes before. Another comment I got was ‘you look really well’. This is a lipstick that isn’t behind the door, it’s really strong, yet it didn’t wear me.

You are so helpful. I went for color analysis in the 1980s and was told I was a winter ( which I agree with). On the flip side when buying cosmetics SA’s would always want to put me in yellow based makeup ( not even close to a match and made me look jaundice) and then pick green shadows and liners all of which made me look like I have the flu. My skin has pink in it with a pale cool green cast. It absorbs color. I always need darker foundation and brighter blushes and lips than the SA thinks. Veins are blue and some cool green but silver definitely looks more harmonious with my skin especially when not tan. I always had to buy two foundations ( cool and neutral). I always knew I have a dreaded olive complexion which was very hard to color match until I found a Japanese makeup line and discovered I was a light cool olive. When I got tan in summer I leaned cool/neutral. Everyone wanted me to get highlights which definitely didn’t work for me. I noticed one color looked best. I treated myself to a color specialist at a high end shop once and I was pleasantly surprised that they did not recommend highlights. They immediately recommended i go a shade darker than my natural color and use one color only which always was what looked best on me. I guess I might be a clear winter which is what I suspected but wasn’t sure.

Untrained general lay people will always mention the color looking good on a person. Here’s why. Polite people never say that color looks like crap on you. They won’t say anything. I have never in 57 years had someone say to me you look great today without mentioning the fact that the color is great on me. Sometimes professionals over read a comment.

This channel has helped me narrow down my colour season sooo quickly! I have researched seasons for years and could never pin point it. I was always torn between summer and spring. I was confused because I have warm hair and a neutral/cool skin tone. But learning your process and the sub seasons has allowed me to finally realise I am a bright spring. Since learning this I have been trying on colours I would have previously avoided when I thought I was a summer and it has literally changed the game. Bright clear, leaning warm colours just light me up and the compliments speak for themselves. Thank you ❤ no more wasting money on colours that make me look and feel mehh! I also find that the brighter colours really improve my mood.

I think it's a bit cruel to say that the compliment of a colour isnt really a compliment of you and that it means the colour is wearing you. I think you should take the compliment at face value instead of making it negative. There are other ways to determine if your in the right season without making something positive into a negative.

Thank you! Actually, I am told how bright fuchsia looks great on me and other bright and cold colors. Also when I dress Black and white I get remarks about whether I was out in the sun because I Look so dark (but not tan). Always thinking I must be a winter type due to my ethnicity (middle eastern with warm colours looking awful I can even feel it😅), I got a color analysis from professionals who are very aware of diversity in ethnicity and implications on colour season. I was identified a soft summer and a true summer, because I need soft, cold and mid to light colours to shine. I intuitively always picked these summet colours in my wardrobe and really questioned that (as if I didn't dare to wear the vibrant colours) But on me those "dull" colours look amazong and make me Look amazong too.😊

While I agree that people can be very subjective about colour when they compliment you,for example my boyfriend loves black on me and tells me I look great when I wear it,yet black is definitely not my color but he loves the contrast of my pale skin against the black, wich he feels is sexy. However I find women are more aware of the concept of flattering colours even if they don't subscribe to the idea of seasons,so when a woman tells you a colour looks good on you,it could very well be true. Before learning about seasons,I would tell someone a colour looked good when they seemed to glow in it or when their eye colour really popped. I think this statement applies more when the comment is more along the lines of "that dress looks nice on you", or "I like your dress". Then I would think that maybe the compliment is more subjective. But when people are specific about the color,I find they're usually accurante imho🤗...that being said however, great video as always 👍,I love the specific analysis you do that is a great teaching tool. Keep up the great work!💞

I would never say "that colour looks good ON YOU" if I didn't think it was a good colour for the person. A good colour often makes the person's eyes pop, for example. I also think that if JLo loves wearing silver then that's okay (I'm always dubious of how the camera reproduces colour, so what we see in images isn't necessarily how it is in reality). If I feel amazing in a colour, it'll show, regardless of whether it conforms to a colour analysis or not! You say yourselves there are shortcomings in colour analysis...

Yeah. This is an often used e ample in seasonal.coloyr work thay they just messed up in their retelling. What they meant to use as an example is something like "hi, i like your shirt!" Which is just saying you like their shirt, not that they look amazing in it because of the colour etc. And youd what someone to say "you look wonderful!" and in that scenario you could take note of what youre wearing because maybe the colour is a good one for you
