I kept wondering what her opinion was on everything going on with your locs, especially since I remember clearly that I started following your channel while she was installing them. That was partially my inspiration for installing 646 microlocs on my daughter's 4c hair in 2019. I know I wouldn't stand by and let a loctitian throw all my investment in time and love in the trash. Good on her for stepping in, and kudos to you for being willing to be vulnerable and transparent , and humble enough to ask for help.

No shade but how did the back of your hair get that broken off? Was it because you waited too long to retie? I have microlocs too I’m just trying to learn from your mistake, I started retwisting because it was taking too long to interlock but I also noticed some of my locs were thinning
@TyKaraAnn2 жыл бұрын

@daffodil45002 жыл бұрын
Sweetheart don't pick the lint out of your hair it weakens the shaft of the loc because you're picking out strands of hair in the process which causes breakage and thinning. I know this sounds crazy but use a lemon dishwashing liquid to clarify and remove lint build up then use apple cider vinegar and baking soda to do a detoxification soak or you can buy loc detox bombs and keep your locs submerged for about 30 minutes to an hour. Either one of them will soften the lint up and remove it completely or almost completely. The water will look mucky. Rinse until it's clear. You're damaging your own loc by picking out the lint babe. You can check out Yannie the Locologist on KZbin. She don't do microlocs but she gives good advice on how to care for your locs in general. All the best in your journey ❤.

hmmm... i wouldn't 'pick cotton' on the locs where it's pretty embedded. looks like you're shredding the loc to remove it. micros and SLs can't take that kind of 'surgery', lol. you have the right tools, but add a sharp needle, and then do checks weekly to catch lint before it gets to that point. i've done it like that for almost 10 years, and it does work. thanks for sharing!

The loctitian wouldn’t have less work to do by cutting the locs down to new growth and reestablishing plus correcting any issues with the grid or combining as others have suggested. It doesn’t make sense to say she’s trying to make it easier on herself because she’s not beholden to doing this young women’s hair. if she didn’t want to do the work she could simply say so and Tykara can find another solution as she clearly has. She’s not working for free I assume, so either way she’d be paid for her services. Maybe she’s experienced enough in her craft or has seen enough problems with hair that hasn’t been properly/regularly maintained to know whether or not the locs can be saved long term and have a healthy outcome and appearance.

Ive braided hair for over 25 years so I know some things about hair. But I wanted to be honest. And I’ve watched your videos from the beginning, I would also search out videos of loc fails, and loc issues for years just to hear the things that people were told or the choices they regretted. I just really didn’t see much of a grid and was like kind of taken by it. Plus the consultation vs the actual installation changed a lot to me. But glad mom is doing your hair. Hopefully you can keep it up that way for a while let mom do it when she has the time! Lol. Can’t wait to see the videos to come.

Quick note: I think the lint you are seeing is actually buildup from your conditioner. Picking it out is going to destroy your locks. I would try an anti residue shampoo a couple times and/or an apple cider vinegar and dish soap soak for an hour to see if that helps any. Glad you decided not to cut. Locticians have to be mindful of their time while keeping costs reasonable. I don’t understand though why she didn’t finish the reti first and save repairs for a future session. Sister Loc consultants are great but they can be limited in Loc experience and too focused on having a perfect grid. I would try an SL consultant that also does other types of locs.
