I completely understand the feeling of being overwhelmed with having to retie sooo many locs. That’s the sole reason I combed out my last set. They weren’t micro locs but they were mini. I got 3 months into that journey and realized they were too small for the low maintenance lifestyle I wanted to live…combed them out and went with a traditional set…

@@tangiem73 There's a few sisterlock comb out videos on youtube. It seems like it took most people a few months. Depending on length and how many locs of course. There was one girl that took 11 months but her locs were tailbone length.

From the 1st time I saw locs I loved the look. When I found out they were a long terrm ( almost permanent style unless combed out or cut out) It was a no for me. I dont wear afros much ( due to tangling) but the afro is my favorite style. I dont like things that require me to do my new growth on a schedule ( perms, locs, color). I love seeing others loc journeys. With my 4c hair if I wash my hair in twists allow to dry and untwist without separating I have the look of locs.

I know you don’t have a ton of free time, but sort of create it. Like while you are watching KZbin retighten some locs. While you are waiting for appointments do a few, etc. Do your hair in planned sections. This way your mom can still help but she can do less. Also put in your phone an appointment every 6 weeks to retighten your locs. Finally do your mom’s hair sometime. It is so much faster when someone else does your hair. That way you can make more efficient use of your time. It takes me five days to retighten my locs so I understand the struggle.

The difference between sisterlocks and microlocs is the "patented" grid not the number of locs. Your hair was already long and thick so I think you can get the look you want without having so many. I'm glad you're now in a better head space to work through this retie and I hope you are open to letting the professional pick up the baton from your mom continue to treat and repair your set. You sound so sad talking about this. Just know however this works out you will be ok.

please consider aloe Vera gel straight from the leaf. The gel is moisturizing and soothing. I loc’d my hair with it and use it for retwist. Spray my hair with spring water. Tap water has a lot of pollutants in it which can irritate the scalp. If your scalp doesn’t respond well to oil aloe Vera gel (ONLY straight from leaf that u cut open) is good enough.

Those charges are rediculous. I don't want to sound negative in any way, I just want to encourage you...although retieing your own hair sounds/is daunting, what makes the thought worse is your mindset and thoughts. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy because we allow our mind to overthink and we sike ourselves out. Whether it be because we strive for perfection, or we don't know something, or any negative thing in between, we have to conquer our minds, and then...we can do virtually anything. If we tell ourselves a fail is just a potential success, or imperfection is perfectly me, or I can do the tough stuff if I put my mind to it, then we allow ourselves grace enough to really give ourselves a chance to do and accomplish ANYTHING. Said all that to say this, after your mom gets your hair back right, consider trying to start doing one section of the back of your hair on your own each retie session until you can do it all in a weeks time on your own. Build up that hair independence muscle! We all are doing it. You can too.

I would like to say that you are a very Beautiful young lady. Your locks are absolutely gorgeous. I recently started my own(Locks) Sister lock's that is, in January of this year, Prior to getting my sister locks. I wore Box Braids and freestyle Braids For 3 years. My edges took a beating And so did my pocket book. I needed a solution and fast I was done with relaxers, So I started researching locks, all locks are beautiful, but I wanted something that gave me a versatile look. I started researching, I found that, I wanted the microlocs or the sister locks. I started practicing, if I was gonna get this style I needed to know how to maintain my own hair in case of whatever reason. I purchase some Mannikin heads, locking tools And went to work until I became better at it. I paid $650 for 8" of locked hair. My hair has been locked now for going on 3 months. I have saved a lot of money, from paying for packaged hair, to getting my braids installed, to hair products. Having your hair in a permanent style such as locks definitely saves you money. You're doing a wonderful job with your hair. Keep up with your maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks if possible. You will be just fine.! I am so proud of you for at least having the courage to share your story with the rest of us. God bless you.

So I have 3 yr old sisterlocks, about 500 (I've combined a few), and the only time I used conditioner was when I dyed my hair last year. Now I have a little bit of build-up that was never there that I think the conditioner caused. The only thing I used to moisturize my hair from the very beginning is George's aloe vera juice with a few drops of different essential oils for scent and I put it in one of those 360 sprayers (I prefer this brand because I don't need to store it in the fridge). Occasionally I would use the sisterlocks refresher spray, but my hair loves the aloe juice best. To this day my hair has never felt dry. Surprisingly I still have my curly ends on almost all my locs and they don't feel dry and crunchy either. I don't spray it every day, just whenever I feel my hair needs it. I'll say try that and see if you like it. You really shouldn't need to use many products with microlocs.

I watched most of your starter videos, it saddens me that you're not having a good healthy relationship with your hair...but it can be ok, in my humble opinion, you can join maybe 4 or 6, or even 8 of your micro locs and get the more traditional ones, they'll still be small, but more manageable. You said you don't like to do hair anyway😂😂😂, but hopefully you'll lean that way instead of starting all over from Zero....your hair is absolutely beautiful, so combine them, I think you'll be happy!!! I had 23 ins and was quoted anywhere from $3500 to $5000. Not saying the consultant does not deserve that amount, because it’s a LOT of work. I change my mind about my hair and for me that’s a lot of money, in case, I changed my mind…yet again. I started braid locs, kept them in for two months and took them out because I hated the grid I created. At the beginning of the pandemic, I almost broke down and paid the money because I was frustrated with trying to do it on my own. Good thing I didn’t, because I would have been newly locd and had heard all of the stories of people not being able to get their maintained. So, I tried again, took my time and reinstalled my braidlocs and I am now 18 months into my journey.

I think Thicker Locs would have been better for you. Your hair is Thick and Long. Micro Locs to me is to Many Locs for your hair type and thickness. It takes to much time to retighting them being so small. The Thicker the Locs is the Shorter time it take to maintain. Thanks for Sharing your Journey.

Would you say your locs or loose natural hair is more low maintenance? I was like you and also lived in box braids with my mom doing my hair. Chescalocs was my original loc inspiration.

Locs are definitely less maintenance for me. My loose natural hair was way more time-consuming.

Oh boy I can't wait like I would say use conditioner less often but not using conditioner anymore I know that's not going to pay off and a conditioner as moisture back to your hair you know after you shampoo you know me myself I've tried water only I've tried a lot of different methods and you know probably the worst and the most pointless was when I stop using conditioner so I would shampoo and then I would use oils you know to seal my hair and I don't know I guess conditioner just gets the last of the shampoo off and then put some moisture back into your hair so you can go ahead and style it like a bottle says but like my hair was like you know if you think of the water only method but except I was using shampoo I mean you know and no conditioner it was just it didn't make sense and my hair was Tangled so I would say use conditioner less often but to stop and also if you're getting build up inside of your hair then that definitely means that you're not rinsing the conditioner out enough so you know you might just need to take some more time rinsing your hair because if you're rinsing all of the conditioner off there's no reason why it should be condition or build up inside of your hair that makes zero sense I'm a light oils coconut oil is not one of them a whole boil not one of them your normal olive oil and water on a more regular basis than conditioner should be fine but still you need to take your time and you know work the product and make sure you rinse it out and if you don't do that then just like kind of accept the consequences that come along with like you know not making sure I just say combining and get rid of all the small ones because it sounds like what your lactation is explaining is that micro locks don't sound like it's for you and of course you and other people are going to respond rudely and stuff to real talk but I will I'm still going to put my comment up anyway

I just found your videos and was amazed at the prices you were quoted. How long was your hair when you did the sisterlocks quote?I started in 2015 with 10 inches of thick hair like yours and I paid 1085. Now that was 2015 so prices are prob different now, and I also started with a sisterlocks trainee so that could have been the reason my price was lower. Anyway, thank you for sharing your story. I’m currently getting my sisterlocks back on track after a few months of not doing them.

are you comfortable putting the mic right on your mouth with the music off? It will capture wind in every word you say and the wind will make your voice sound so unique.

The reason why people have to make a difference is because there’s a difference in the way it starts but also the person who created sister locks trademarked the term so I guess ppl can’t use the word officially. I also think the difference between sisterlocks and micro locks is very minoot

Hi girl! You have one of the most beautiful head of hair on this side of locks!. I do believe you taking some ownership of this is called adulting. Them loctitians will charge you through the nose while combining your locks on the sly, ruining that beautiful head of hair for you. That $1400 to retie shows they can sniff that you are overwhelmed. NOT GOOD! How come you are not learning to do your mom's hair? So you too can provide her a setvice. Infact, take on your own hair, do maybe 200/per session and allow yourself to retie over a week. no big deal! and try 10 weeks reties, it is not that bad! The sisters who do their own hair have far more beautiful hair!

It kinda seems that you let it get so bad to the point that your mom had no choice but to help you after she said no. Mom always gonna help they baby but it seem like you not ready to be responsible

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep them. Luckily I found a loctician in my area who’s been keeping up with my reties for over a year now. My locs are thriving 😊

Most people don’t realize this: It’s the oils that cause debris to stick to locs and cause build-up and dryness. Debris will get on any hair, but it’s easier to remove if you don’t have piles of product on the hair. Also, hair does need a diluted form of conditioner after washing. Consequently, oil is not a moisturizer. However, if you’re going to use it, wash your hair more frequently.
