I didn't even know that Federer had played Chang. Interesting viewing.

He may have won the fewest slams of the big three but the back hand slice 'dropshot' 3 minutes in is a thing of beauty. Feds will always be the king of tennis in my book.

Fewer slams, but more titles and more match wins. More tour championships and at his best. Still the GOAT!

Fewest slams at 20 GS titles isn't too shabby. Shame he got injured for good in 2020. Should've had Wimbledon '19 with 2 match points on serve against Djoko. Then it's be 21, 22 and 23. A tighter. Still 3rd, though. Put into perspective, Pete Sampras is wayyy behind at 14. So I put the Big 3 together. In terms of smoothness, service and gliding, effortless shots....Fed's my man.

I mean, in 2002 he already made a name for himself. He broke into the top 10 at age 21, he ended 2002 ranked as the world No. 6.

Chang was past his prime. Wouldn't have any chance anyhow

Chang was 30, it’s not like he was that old. I was a Chang fan, Chang and Kricksrein, the underdogs. Chang was so obviously outgunned in this match. He had a weak serve, and his backhand had no penetration. He was a base-liner who fought wars of attrition, but he felt he had to approach the net against Federer, not a good sign. Federer wasn’t playing even near his best.

This was the year after Federer dethroned Sampras at 2001 Wimbledon, and 2 years before Federer actually wins his first of 5, actually 5 US Opens in a row. This is the year after Federer wins his first Wimbledon. Chang would retire soon after this 64 rounder. The years have gone by fast.

Sure it's a thump. But don't get it twisted. Chang is one of the most solid players in history. He's a legit legend and nobody got a pass against him.

What'a great about tennis is seeing the different generations arrive and leave. Federer was just getting good and would win his first GS in 2003. Now he's retired. The same for Alcarez one day. Sinner? Well, if he continues UNINTENTIONALLY (uhm, sure) taking banned substances, he will not last.

C'est fou de voir qu'il n'y avait pratiquement personne en tribune pour le voir jouer à ce moment.

Age (10 yrs younger) & height, power all different, Federal the beginning of new era leading to modern strokes. No wonder he holds 4:1 record against Chang. Chang beat federal in 2000. This is 2 years later & it's time to retire. :) and he did!
