This video lost (fail to mention) the most important points: 1) ICE car efficient can only reach about 30%, but EV car efficient can reach 90%, this means for the ICE car 70% of energy goes wasted in the form of heat, which add the global warming. 2) 90% car accidents are due to human error, auto drive is the solution, but you can't achieve auto drive by ICE car, after so many years of testing, why? because ICE response so slow when you give the e-instruction, while EV car can response in 1/1000 second. 3) To see how the EV car auto response can do, watch the video with the title: BYD Yangwang U8 AWD EV SUV With 1,100HP

But the thing about EVs is that the source is centralised and the smoke produced is not right on ur face like the ICE vehicles, the electricity produced for EVs is far off from the residential area. So even if it causes the same amount of pollution in generating the electricity, the AQI of the cities will be largely better, just like a mini forest in midst of the urban city which has better AQI then its surroundings.

You are right Faisal. Another thing to consider is that once the production costs of EVs come down the subsidies will also be laid of as well as the free or minimal cost charging . The only advantage EVs have right now is in low running costs. Once they are in abundance naturally the consumption of fuel would also come down creating less demand and hence lower fuel prices. So in long run the running costs of ICE and ev vehicle would also turn out to be similar.

On the contrary, actually a lot of people talked about it and usually with half baked information or bias just like this one. There are a ton of good points in this video but super misleading. It's not apples to apples comparison and more of a bias. And I don't think you have been in an EV before. They will blow your mind. They are fast, quiet and lot more efficient and easy to maintain since there's no maintenance other than changing vipers, 12volt battery and tires for the most part.
@toasted_bagel59
@toasted_bagel59 Жыл бұрын
@@techenthusiast4542you have some great points but I think one thing some people like is the sound of the car. Many gasoline engines tend to have a great sound, like 5 cylinder audis, dodge vipers, and many other sport cars. Driving an ev would still be a somewhat unpleasing experience because of that. I love to hear the rev of an engine. It adds personality to the car.Also, some EV'S like teslas have expensive batteries, and they can cost up to $20,000 to replace all of them, when parts for a gasoline car would be cheaper.
@techenthusiast4542
@techenthusiast4542 Жыл бұрын
@@toasted_bagel59 Yes they do sound great. Especially my motobike will blow them out of water if I put mine next to most cars. My 3 series had a great sound before I switched to my current Mazda which also makes nice noise. But that's not my point at all. It's all about how we move from unsustainable to sustainable modes of transportation. Either we grow a hell lot of trees all over the world (which doesn't seem to be the case) or switch to EVs for transport and Solar and Nuclear for electricity. Because we are actually running out of oil and we keep drilling more and more locations and more wars if we can't drill. My brother works for an oil company by the way. Our energy demands are only on the rise and so is for other countries. If you live in a big city, go out and look at the sky, smog is the first thing you see. It's kinda depressing. Respiratory diseases are only on the rise if you look at statistics. At least if big trucks are converted to some from of nonpolluting fuel source, things should turn around quickly. Just because I love the sound of my vehicle and bike should mean I have to hate EVs. Battery prices are coming down and should be between 5k and 10k for a pack in next 2 to 3 years

Slight correction at 14:48 Most of the Electricity board keeps the tiered pricing, but they charge you as per your usage only, just like the way we pay Income tax into brackets. For example: For the first 100 units - 5 Rs/unit, 101-300 units - 7 Rs/Unit, 301-500 units - 10 Rs/Unit, etc. So, if you use 450 units a month, Cost = (100 x 5) + (200 x 7) + (150 x 10) = 500 + 1400 + 1500 = 3400 Though, I can not guarantee how Mahavitaran does this, but at least, I have seen most of the boards are following this approach. :)

Thank you so much Faisal. There is one more point that could be added. If one leaves the EV unused, the battery looses charge. And on current EVs it looses charge very fast. That's like having a hole in the petrol tank. If possible do that test too. How much battery capacity the vehical looses from 100% when left unused.

Fun video. I am a proponent on EV cars, I have had one for 5 years in the USA. But I would never recommend one to: A. People living in rural areas. B. Anyone without home charging. C. Anyone that regularly drives over 60% of the rated mileage per day. D. Anyone that would have to use it to regularly drive away from home overnight. In the 5 years that I have had my car, it has never been fast charged (DC charged). It has only been charged on a public level 2 charger a hand full of times. It has served me well as our family's second in town/commuter vehicle. I would not own an EV unless I had another car that was an ICE or was willing to rent an ICE for long trips. This will change as more efficient EV's become available over the next 5 years. Those efficiencies will come from better aerodynamics, vehicle manufacturing techniques/materials, and better battery technologies that may not even use lithium. That non-lithium projection may take longer, but the rest are possible today and only need small push to start production. All that said, I agree with 95% of what you say. The one point that I take issue with is this. The amount of electricity that it takes to refine crude oil into gasoline is huge. So huge that it is nearly the amount that an EV requires. The exact amount is highly debatable, particularly in that it also takes quite a bit of oil and gas to do the pumping, transportation, and refining. So it takes a fair amount of Calculus and more data that what is readily available to get to the full answer. And this does not consider the pollution and toxic waste put out by the refineries themselves along with the energy requirements of that waste disposal. But I still have to agree with your ultimate conclusion. The 15 or so year targets of these companies to go all EV is unrealistic when you consider world-wide markets. Even in the US, it will be a struggle to get there both in infrastructure and politics particularly in the rural areas. The smaller area and higher population density of most of the EU and some coastal areas of the US makes it possible in those areas, but only in those areas. The rest of the world has a long way to go.

As a person who researches in Carbon Neutrality Technology, I absolutely agree with the charging and battery issues. In Europe, the governments give a charging card-type pass, which can be topped up like a fastag, and that can be used to charge at any charging station. Also, the charging standard is mandated as CCS-type connectors in Europe, to the extent that Tesla, the most arrogant of all EV makers, had to bow down and install CCS converters in their Model S and Model 3 EVs. I don't see the Indian Govt mandating such standardization on all EV companies. Also, battery materials are incredibly toxic to mine, compared to iron, steel, aluminum, and so on. As some experts say, "There is no such thing as ethical Lithium and ethical Cobalt. It's a mental decision about how much you want to damage the third-world countries." Coming to battery disposal, there is the possibility of recycling, but the present industry can only recover 90-95% of the lithium and Cobalt from a battery. On the other hand, the iron, steel, and aluminum in ICE vehicles can be melted down into a soup, and then be separated based on their densities, which gives an almost 100% recovery of metal in scrap. Also, regarding the battery performance, the lithium-ion batteries used in EVs are at their most efficient when they are at 21°C. Any higher, and the heat stress on the battery increases until the ion barrier breaks down, and the battery shorts out, catching fire. That's why most phones shut down everything when the battery becomes too hot. And EVs do try to shut down, but the exposure to external heat and forced driving due to legal issues (pulling over to the side of the road), lead to further overheating and then the failure of the battery. Also, if a battery is not at the optimum temperature of 21°C, then the range starts dropping dramatically. This might not be a problem in a European country where the temperatures are a pleasant 15-25°C, but in a country where the ambient temperature crosses over 40°C routinely during the warmer months, it is foolish to expect that the performance and range would be as the manufacturer would claim in Europe. ARAI would get ludicrous ranges as they would keep the car in an air-conditioned space at 21°C during testing, thereby maximizing the performance. The same would go for battery degradation, as high temperatures would lead to faster battery degradation. So a battery that would last for 3 years in Europe would need replacement almost every year in India. All in all, EVs need much more work before they can successfully replace ICE cars across the world. The battery needs to be made of better materials, or supercapacitors, which are more robust and can last like the ICE engines. Lithium-ion tech made sense for personal electronics like phones or laptops, as they are mostly kept in air-conditioned spaces and are handled with care, with less jerking around and bumps. EVs experience wild temperature variations, massive current loads, and serious undulations, which are not what Lithium Ion tech was developed to handle. The only feasible solution (at the city level atleast) is to massively upgrade public transportation to the point where people don't need to take their cars and bikes to work, preferring to ride the metro/suburban rail/bus instead. That's the honest solution for the climate crisis.

I agree with hybrid vehicles because I am frugal, and being able to feed dynamic braking back into the car to use again is awesome! Ice vehicles are never going to be able to do that, but hybrids can. I want a Heavy duty Hybrid truck to replace the one I am driving now. I haul a lot of weight all day long and tow a lot of weight about 10 times a month. I want to save on fuel usage and brakes. A hybrid can do that without worrying about range. I can fill it up quickly and be on my way. The next logical step for me for zero emissions would be a PHEV H2 fuel cell vehicle. I could slow charge it anywhere over a long period but not have to rely on that. I still get the benefits of regen braking and a quick refuel time. H2 is already being made cheaper and cheaper. Also you can capture the water it forms and reuse it in any use you need to or send it back into an Electrolizer.

But, from what i have heard is with the increase of EVs, there is also technology being developed for Lithium cobalt nickel recycling. That might mitigate the mining problem. And also, when it comes to pollution from coal powered plants, it is easier to implement carbon regulation systems in plants than on individual vehicles.

I have been owning 2 EVs. Its fun to drive. I had to use public charger only once. I really like the silent cabin, no vibrations while driving. I would prefer EV over ICE just for smooth driving experience. Not saying EV are better than ICE, I just like the experience. IF someone likes ICE more, its up-to him after all its his/her money :) About battery wastage, there are already lot of companies which recycle EV batteries. All the minerals are going to be reused very well and in next few decades there will be less need for mining. LFP cell batteries already provide 3000+ charging cycles. Also LFP cells uses iron/phosphate which doesn't need extensive mining like Nickel/Cobalt and are easily available. Also with new battery technologies like Sodium batteries will be much more cleaner and sodium is also available everywhere. In the end, if you like it or not, EV's are the future so enjoy driving ICE vehicles till they are available if you really love them :)

Great video. You can also add that alternate battery tech like sodium batteries would negate most of the pollution and china dependency if done right. Reliance bough out British Faradion company for their sodium battery tech. That makes battery cheaper and have easily available raw materials. But I still think EVs for cold climate is a no go. Batteries drain fast and perform badly at low temperature condition.

Besides, the so called "sensible BMW" has had subscriptions for long time, since 2020, before even merc, when they started charging for carplay and android auto same about range.
