Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I love a good sugar cookie and royal icing combo but royal icing just seems to be a consistent problem for me, though it might've been the recipe I was using.

i don't know why this was recommended to me but it's neat. kind of reminds me of adding different amounts of toluene to the industrial goop i use at work, different consistencies for different applications. or mixing mortar for bricklaying is probably more analogous actually, since you could probably add more powder OR more liquid like you can with icing. also i think an offset spatula and a tuck point trowel are basically the same thing. aanyway, cool video! thanks!

I didn't realise you've been making longer form content! Yay! Gotta binge all of that now! I'd love it if you could make a video on any tips to make the royal icing taste a little less like straight sugar. There's always the classic add mint or vanilla essence, but the mint especially can make it taste a little like toothpaste.

I haven’t quite figured out what all I want to do with longer videos, but I’ve been posting some here and there! Honestly I just make vanilla royal icing, I haven’t done much with different flavors. But I know some people use lemon juice to help cut the sweetness.

I agree with the lemon. It's what I usually use and it works really well.

Great idea on the spray bottle! Can I ask, do you use corn syrup in your icing recipe to keep the cookies shiny, or do you recommend a certain recipe? Thank you! Love your designs!

My royal icing dries pretty matte, but I believe the more corn syrup you add the shinier it’ll make it. I just use it to help the icing not dry super hard and keep a soft bite. If you want a shinier look, you might want to look into a glaze recipe rather than royal icing.

@@southstreetcookies Ohh, that's an idea. Thanks so much for the response!
