Awesome..!!! My all time favorite car I would kill even for a 1960 model. I would forever be grateful to ghostbusters for introducing us to such a great car.

When I started in EMS (emergency medical service) we had a 1957 Caddy M & M (nickname for Miller Meteor). It was full rigged as an ambulance, sole function. It had the low roof like yours quite cramped, but you could handle 4 patients lying down, one on the main gurney, one on a wheel and let stretcher on the floor next to it and then two on folding cots hanging from hooks in the ceiling and sides. I think about the windshield wiper you showed, I assume vacuum like ours. The trouble was that when you were running code on a rainy night, you had to let your foot off the gas a bit to build up vacuum to make the wipers go. These were great old machines, 90+ MPH was not uncommon when running code (lights and siren) Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!

I believe '58 was last year for vacuum wipers. We had both a '58 and a '59. The latter was first year for electric wipers.

The most beutifull car ever made IMO. Ever since Ghostbusters (1984), that car have been my dream car to own, and boy I would really fight for one to a bloody end if getting the oppertunity to aquire one, mark my words on that. No one will then stand in my way for that car. Just so sad that there are not many of these one out there :-(

That is my dream car. I have been to literally hundreds of junkyards from Virginia to Georgia to Texas in the last 30 years looking for one. Specifically, I want a 1960 Miller-Meteor, but if I ever found a '59 in this condition, I would have to buy it!

I like the fact that you explained that a commercial chassis could be ordered and then coach built. Rolls Royce & Duesenberg would do the same thing. The coachbuilder for Cadillac was Fleetwood at the time when I last rode in one. (Cadillac later bought them out.) I remember as a Catholic altar boy that jump seat as well. If I was serving at a funeral on a Saturday morning, my parents would drop me off at the church or I'd be picked up at my home wearing my Cassock & Surplice by the funeral director. I'd serve the funeral Mass & then attend the committal service at the grave. I'd be driven home. Neighbors freaked the first time that a hearse was at my front door; but, they learned that everything was ok. As to extra storage, there is something called a, casket truck. It is the collapsible casket stand with a skirt on the bottom.

My guess is the beacon light and siren were either after market add ons or added on as a custom order detail. You are correct about the vent window (or I heard them referred to as wing windows growing up) and you didn't need a/c. The last car I had with those was a 1988 Crown Vic. I wish so badly they would bring them back.
@clydeferguson5192 жыл бұрын
On a combination coach the beacon can be added or removed through a threaded rod and wing nut on the roof through the zippered headliner. A switch was mounted on the dash for the light and siren,that was mounted under the hood.

@johnhenryholiday49644 жыл бұрын
Funeral homes bought them.... the funeral director would purchase them and act as a "medic" / funeral director.... the funeral director mainly had a basic first aid training and would use speed of the car to get them to the hospital a/s/a/p ... the unit was equiped with small oxygen deliver system and engine manifold vacumn for suction of the patients mouth / throat. I actually used one on an occasion.... the ride of those big cars were wonderful.... All of our ambulances were out on calls and we had nothing else to use....

wonder how many persons took their last ride aboard that guy . nice tour . i "think" that the crankcase ventilation was vented at oil cap ? i seem to recall down draft tubes before pcvs?
@TheAutoCollection3 жыл бұрын
I've often wondered the same as well. The crankcase "vent" is indeed part of the oil fill cap. It's the little slit at the bottom. It contains a steel wool like material to prevent spillage. Make no mistake though, it's not the same as a PCV valve :)
