To add to the Destination rant.. It's hard to beleive a dealer pays up to 2k per vehicle to have it delivered. You're telling me a truck delivering 10 new vehicles costs 15-20k? I have a hard time believing dealers actually pay that destination charge.

When you are 68 years old and have a bad hip those little steps can be the thing that gets you into the truck. Yes, septagenarians want to off road and see the sights they heard about on your show while they sat in a windowless cubicle working for that retirement check. You should have a Geezer segment and one for handicapped off roaders.

I think your side-by-side comparison debunked the comments that the new Frontier looks like a Tacoma. It is more squared off and has a stronger, more upright grill like the Taco, but it doesn't really look like the Taco. Your comparo definitely shows Nissan had the Taco in mind when they designed the new Frontier, but as a competitor, not necessarily to be imitated, IMHO. I agree with Roman about the ludicrous destination fees, especially for a domestically assembled vehicle that doesn't have to be shipped across an ocean. Keep ranting about destination fees AND about only offering safety features and LED headlights on the upper trim levels and option packages, Roman! Power to the People! LOL ...and YES! to a NISMO Pro4X and a Pro4X Warrior. They'd kick Toyota's butt! The Frontier social media boards would go wild for those options. We also really want the Xterra to return to US shores. Please, Nissan!

You probably live in a position in life where not only do you possibly own your property you also get to buy a new 4x4. Replacing power steering pumps and rebuilding the rack and box for a hydraulic system for somebody like me who is poor is cotsly. Very costly. Espcially since we cant afford newer cars that have mor available cheap parts. So, it takes a turbo to out torque this engine. So if you want the extra expense of a diesel (DEF fluid, high end oil for diesels and the extra filters) or paying more in gas for a turbo four (mileage goes down when you romp on it), the this is not your truck. They forgot to mention the Dana axles you get in the ProX and 4X. The 4X has more skid plates underneath. This video could have been shortened by 20 minutes.

I think I differ with Roman on over-the-air updates. I'd like auto manufacturers to build simple, reliable control systems the first time. Having continuous updates allows them to follow a "good enough" methodology, putting vehicles out the door with substandard software. In the extremely rare case where my vehicle needs a crucial update, one that I actually opt-in for, I don't mind going to the dealer (as long as they have flexible hours). There are other potential issues of having network-enabled vehicles as well.

An after market brake controller is no big deal. Most customers woulnt tow with the truck to a level that they need an integrated trailer brake controller. Ya gotta have brakes on the trailer your towing for a trailer brake controller to be useful. The truck is wired for one so its an easy plug in under the dash, at least the previous gen is. Ive towed a bunch with my 2008 Frontier 4x4 SE crew cab long bed. Most of my towing is of my 6x12 unbraked cargo trailer but I have towed several times with a braked trailer with an aftermarket brake controller plugged into the prewired factory plug and it works great.

@@dethpig420 That is what I’m waiting for - pricing on these. I was pretty disappointed when they went up $7,500 US in 2020. That was made the frontier amazing - simple, reliable and affordable. Sorry but I can’t get myself to spend 40k US on a mid size when I can get a 2.7 F-150 STX for the same price, which has way more power, better ride, comfort and handling as well as basically the same mpg. I understand the trims compared are totally different, but still, mid size and full size are a whole different segment and I couldn’t justify getting a mid size for that much. I can’t believe people spend as much as they do on broncos, Jeeps and gladiators etc. Could get a diesel one ton for how much some of the higher trims cost.

So glad there is NO start/stop! And I much prefer hydraulic steering in a truck. Electric steering has zero feeling and it's too light unless it's artificially generated. And my experience is it requires constant correction at crusing speeds. Hydraulic has been around forever and is dependable. Replacing electric steering is very expensive. I'm not as enamored with direct injection though and prefer port for simplicity even if it gets worse gas mileage.

Funny that Nathans accident was mentioned in the context of being able to afford a replacement. Someone just slammed into the side of my Frontier about a week ago. No injuries thankfully and my truck still drivable. But I have a 2008 Frontier SE 4x4 crew cab long bed with 356,000 miles on it. Guess what. The person that hit me had Geico and they totalled my truck as it was estimated to be around $5000 in repair cost. Basically dented in some if my front passenger fender, both front and rear passenger doors and some of my rear bed side. My doors open and the truck drives aside from a needed flat tire replacement. I feel like I kinda got screwed as they said my truck was worth about $6000 and the salvage buy back was $2200 according to Geico. So now my perfectly good running truck is all bashed up and Ill have to pay to have it fixed after I buy it for the salvage which I will definititely be doing because truck prices are rediculious right now. My plan is to drive my beat up rig till the new Frontier goes on sale and then head to a dealer and try to get a good price on a 2020 with the new drive train while everyone else is lusting over the new one. Then Ill still probably fix the old 2008 myself over time on the cheap as its been an Awesome truck and I know its still got a good bit of life left in it.

Sadly all the mid-size trucks are around 20mpg. You need to get a Maverick or Santa Cruz if you want fuel mileage and a bed or if you have $$$ you can get a hybrid or electric full size truck.

Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon. Also follow the engine break in procedure (so you get higher volumetric efficiency), use high quality synthetic oil, and run it on 89 I get 25mpg in my 2019 4.0.

Out of curiosity, how come? I love driving a stick on cars, but I’ve never missed driving a stick on my truck. Plus, the take rate of manual trucks is so small that it just doesn’t make sense. I doubt the Tacoma will offer it in their next generation.
@wesleywilkinson4355
@wesleywilkinson4355 2 жыл бұрын
@@pieorion883 A manual is far more engaging to drive in anything. These midsize trucks also have the benefit of shifters that mount directly to the transmission without linkages or cables. While not quite sports car quality, they can actually be quite good. Then there is the reliability. I have changed clutches before, but any properly maintained manual will easily outlast the engine. As for the sales numbers, manuals rule everywhere in the world other than the US. Overall for me, Ive never driven an automatic that completely agrees with what gear I want to be in. Don"t even get me started on CVT"s!

What am I missing in regards to the Frontier Pro4X? Roman stated that he feels it competes with the Tacoma TRD Off-Road but not the TRD Pro. Why is that the case? It has skid plates just like the Pro. It also has a rear locker, hill descent control, upgraded shocks, etc. Unless I am missing something it feels to me that it directly competes with the TRD Pro Tacoma.

I know the Pro has a little more clearance than the regular off-road and with it's TRD control arms allows for more articulation when rock crawling

It’s mostly shocks. The TRD pro has fancy Fox shocks, whereas the TRD off road has bilsteins similar to the ones the Pro-4x has. Other than that, they are very similarly equipped.

Roman reminds me of the guy who claims he's not biased against a certain football team but every statement he makes about them is a back handed compliment at best. Geez, dude, no over the air updates, really? That's a concern of yours? No one other than Tesla owners give a darn. No electric steering? Hmm, let's see, almost everyone who actually enjoys good driving dynamics and feel prefers hydraulic steering. Electric steering has gotten worlds better but it was done for fuel economy reasons not for a better driving experience. And, yes, Roman, plenty of people know the difference, not just you. Even if they don't they know they like a certain feel regardless of how it's achieved and if hydraulic gives them that then that's what they want. You don't have to know how the widget works in order to know that you like what the widget does. And, thank God there is no stop start available. What the heck do you mean by available? If it were an option that could be left off or permanently switched off any car or truck that has it then every owner of a car that has it would have it deleted after just a couple of days. Dude these are benefits of the Frontier. Plus, know your facts before saying the Frontier or any other vehicle doesn't have things that competing vehicles have because at the end of your veiled disparaging speech you state that the Frontiers competitors "might have" the things you mentioned. So, which is it? They do have or they might have? I know. Do you? Look, despite Roman's not so hidden biases, the Frontier has been and will continue to be a great truck. The fuel economy stinks, that's true, but everything else is great and it will do anything almost any buyer will ask of it. The Tacoma and Ranger will too but for some reason only the Tacoma and Ranger get any credit for turning in their homework. And, seriously, the rock rails are accessories not something you have to buy so they would be something someone chose to put on not something for Nissan to leave off. The NV van came out in 2011, long before the Titan XD. The XD is actually based on the frame from the NV van and not the other way around. While there are several companies offering 4x4 conversions for the NV, it is Tim Dahle Nissan that makes the most factory ready version using components from the Titan XD 4x4 and working with Nissan engineering to revise the ecu to seamlessly integrate the 4x4 system into the van as if Nissan had built it this way. Why on earth Nissan didn't do something with this is beyond me. Someone else did the research and development, Nissan provided the technical integration engineering and it works flawlessly but Nissan looked and said, hmm, who would want that? The real problem with the NV van is space inefficiency. For it's overall length it has the least amount of cargo room of any full size cargo van. Yep, the driver and passenger space is great compared to most vans where the engine intrudes on the driver and front passenger space but it eats cargo space which is what these vans are actually for.
