Here's How It Works: RAF Battle of Britain 1940 - Intro Game: Turn 01

Wow. This turned out longer than I expected, but then I did waffle on a bit explaining things.
This series of RAF videos are just the introduction scenario which covers one day from 0800 through to 1600 hrs.
First is a quick run through of the map (what all those boxes mean). Followed by the initial setup (weather, etc.), the first raid, and through to clock advance.
NOTE: at the end I should have put the remaining squadrons still on patrol into the tote box. I mention this at the start of the next video.

John Butterfield is indeed a genius for solitaire game play ...I have many of his games which are wide and varied ...this is a great series of how it works ...and very pleasant to watch and learn with you ... Ric

Good video. The Gruppen bombers are returned to their bases with the reduced side up as a reminder that they can’t fly another raid that day, not because they’re the last go out. Bombers only fly one raid per day, fighters and fly two - possibly three raids in a day.

Also, when you played that low level bombing event card, you were supposed to move one row down on the chart for the squadron attack phase (beneficial to the RAF) and then two rows across for the bombing phase (representative of Luftwaffe's increased bombing accuracy at lower range). I am curious about something regarding A/C vs pilot losses. While aircraft are much easier to replace than experienced pilots, does the game take into account pilot losses in terms of reduced squadron strength? Replacing experienced pilots with green newbies shoud reduce the squadrons effectiveness for some time until the rookies hopefully survive and gain experience. The game designer should have included this. Am I wrong? I believe the previous original verion of RAF incorporates this. Fatigued or depleted squadrons were flipped showing a reduced effectiveness and if further losses encrued would be out of action for some time. Many squadrons after much action fought at much reduced strength until either reinforcements were brought in or in extreme cases pulled from the battle to rest and replace lost pilots and aircraft. Also what about channel loses. If raid warning is early and intercepts can be made over the channel, there is the risk that aircrew bailing out over the channel will have a higher chance of being lost. I know knitpicking but these factors can play a role in the outcome? I still want to pick up this gem of a game. I played RAF years ago but sold my games...loss of interest and busy life. But the deluxe edition has again piqued my interest.

Hello Ronnie, as I am still waiting for D-Day Omaha Beach, which seems a monster to be play and win, I wonder if this game is a kind of similar mechanism or completely different. I haven't watch any of these videos yet but I am looking forward to have an idea for a possible purchase. Thanks

What determines which targets go into which priority part?

NoName - from what I remember the rules tell you which planes go where with alternatives if there's none of a certain type left.

Ronnie Tucker I'm talking about 23:20 The airfield gets lowest priority, while ports and radar have high chance of getting major raid I can see that those aren't permanent pictures What defines the priority of structures? There is a list of priorities for different strategic outlooks. The outlook is determined by the date, VP track and a random element. Some event cards cause you to redetermine the outlook. At least that is how it used to work. A couple of the mechanics have changed from the version of the game I have played.
