If you have the time and resources I would try to DIY some of the simpler things in the future. There are many E39 KZbin videos on oil changes, windshield trim replacement, brakes, etc. Some of these things are easier than you'd think :)

My friend they robbed you on the windshield seal. Its dirt cheap direct from bmw think about £45 and all you do is pull old one off and squeeze on the new one. Took me 1/2 hour. Beautiful car though.
