@@snowcoi nope it does not need a tune. It runs perfectly fine on the stock tune. There are no gains to be had, and it isn’t needed for stage 1 91/93. But I do want to push stage 1 E40 so that’s what we’re gonna do. That piston upgrade will enable me to run E40 on stage 1 and past that.

Good Job. We did those all day long at the dealer for rough idle and a check engine light when cold - without a walnut blaster ( they weren't readily available at the time, I think they made blasters for a few thousand dollars and none of the techs were willing to spend their own money to get one. We used brake and carb clean and a wad of zip ties all bunched together. It worked but not NEARLY as clean as your job.

I hate how the title of the video says this is what Audi hates, Audi manufacturer actual recommends to clean the valves after high amount of miles, also any audi dealer will try and recommend or sell the walnut shell valve cleaning service if they find reason for the vehicle needing it, at audi dealership’s part’s departments, walnut shell media is in stock for technicians to use on customer’s vehicles, so the title is just mad click bait. If youre gonna try and educate people about things, make sure you have facts readily available. Also I would agree, that it is frowned upon for diyers or people like yourself to perform this service, due to lack of training or expirience, anyone who attempts to do this valve cleaning process could potentially catastrophically destroy the engine. You have to be very careful not scar the valves or get any type of debris in the cylinders, leave this to the professionals.

That's awesome, I have a 2015 Audi S4 Black Optics. Is this essentially the work required to fix a P0491 code on this car?
@Need4Built
@Need4Built 2 ай бұрын
Fairly certain that’s a secondary air injection code, and has nothing to do with the valves being clean. Usually gotta replace the pump and clean the hoses for the secondary air injection system to fix that. A stage 1/2 test pipe tune would take those away if you get test pipes.

I had a 2010 S4. I bought it with 72000kms 8 years ago and it had a CEL come on and cycle off the entire time. Car was a Stasis car (stage 1 package from the dealer, here in Canada at least) and ran like a top. It threw the codes for both sides and nothing happened. Ever. Get it checked out but if it cycles off by itself after a bit of driving I wouldn’t worry too much. I also did the carbon cleaning at around 130,000kms and it did smooth out the idle and throttle response. I had before and after pics taken and there was a lot of buildup. But I digress. The CEL regarding air injection never caused a single issue on my ride other than the intermittent CEL.

Is there a good way to chemically clean the valves in situ (like a gas additive) without disassembling the valve covers? I just got a C7 A6 with the 3.0 engine at ~150k miles and want to try and make it last as long as I can. Car seems to be pretty well maintained before I got it but with that mileage, i'm sure there's TONS of gunk built up.
@Need4Built
@Need4Built 2 ай бұрын
Don’t need to dissemble the valve covers to do the carbon cleaning. It’s as simple as removing the supercharger and intake manifold runners. The only way to do it, and do it right, is the way I did it. Hand scraping and walnut blasting. If those valves have been we been cleaning at 150k you have ALOT you’re giving up performance wise. No, gas additives don’t work. As I explained there’s no gasoline spraying over the valves to clean them. Even if you add something into the gasoline, it won’t ever spray over the valves either way.

I would disagree on the oil choice, unless you’re sponsored. Then ehh. But Shell Helix Ultra AVL would be my recommendation. It’s not produced from crude oil but from LNG. At least in Europe. I dealt with Shell as a PM for Audi. It burns cleaner than other oils should it get into the combustion chambers.

Interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. Audi’s manual does list Castrol as well. LiquiMoly meets the same specifications as recommended by Audi for this 3.0T. 👊🏼 But you definitely don’t want oil in the combustion chamber ? It’s meant to lubricant the internal components? Not combust? 😅

@@Need4Built They also spec water 0W30 thats trash. The Engine has no problems with thick oil.. also its not that much. The piston rings tend to be not very good, thick oil is therefore better. I dont know how cold Washington gets.. but i drive it as low as -15°C. Sry.. imperial (°F) makes no sense^^ Also we go on 102 and its still enough. Ethanol is no Option anymore cause Authorities banned it as normal fuel....

Clickbait ? How? I have the dirty intake valves in the thumbnail. Did the service. It has improved the responsiveness of the engine significantly. Additionally Audi does “love” this “trick” because it’s actually a required service. This isn’t the airport kind sir, no need to announce your departure.
