Meet the Grahams making that much is crazy but the more think about it the more it makes sense. While the first couple of exchanges between Drake and Kendrick had the hip hop worlds ear, Meet the Grahams, I think, was the first track that broke past that barrier and reached people outside of the culture because of the details in the song and for how damning, haunting and uncomfortable the track was. You had people who dont listen to rap or even know who Kendrick was asking about the beef because of that song. Like theres texts between Tom Hanks asking his son to explain the beef after Meet the Grahams dropped lol. I think it breaking that barrier also helped Not Like Us go further beyond that and reach more ears cause there was more attention to the beef now.

Bravo! I think comment is spot on. While I’m a little disappointed that “Euphoria” was last, I hope people will go back and listen to the song-not just for its mastery and lyrical genius, but for the fact that the song has proven to be prophetic as the days and months go by. It’s almost like everything Kendrick portended in that song is coming to pass. Drake does seem to be spiraling. And he also seems to believe that his reputation as a cunning and very popular artist will lead him to ultimate victory. Maybe it will, but not before he deals with Kendrick Lamar.

I want to say that it should not be shocking that Drake beat Kendrick at the Billboard Awards. Drake tends to flood the market with tens of thousands of songs, it seems. It’s a very cunning strategy. A law of numbers. If an artist has 100 songs and another artist only has 10, of course the artist with more songs will do better and has a better chance of releasing some songs that will take him to the top of the charts and/or increase streaming numbers. That Kendrick Lamar has fewer songs, is now an independent artist, has little to no social media presence, is a lesser known and commercially popular artist, says something about Kendrick Lamar. He can still compete with Drake who has all of this going for him, not to mention a culture that seems to coddle, protect and excuse his behavior no matter what he does. The fact that Kendrick beats him where it truly counts is telling. I don’t care about the charts. I don’t really care about who streams more. I care about the art itself. And the respect that the art evokes. Kendrick is #1 in my book when it comes to that in the Hip-Hop game.

I still remember waking up from a nap @ around midnight when Meet The Grahams dropped and walking around the crib with goosebumps feeling like I was being haunted by a spectral being lmao. That one song had such an impact on the battle and set the stage for Not Like Us to take over after such a somber and ghastly experience.
@jahnybravo21689 күн бұрын
Plus the bait and switch Kendrick pulled that day with 6:16 in LA to lure Drake into dropping was brilliant. The song itself wasn't the only shock factor, the *way* the song dropped had just as much shock to it. Streamers and their audiences lost their minds as they immediately dropped Drake's song to tune into the next song in the saga. Kendrick made it so *anybody* that was listening to Family Matters would immediately get recommended Meet The Grahams right after. Being able to smother your opponents song in less than an hour (I'm pretty sure) is an entirely original move with no historic precedent for *anything* similar happening in music. And Not Like Us being the very next day also made sure audiences weren't *stuck* in MTG's gloominess for too long. He killed all the energy on the night of Drake's big "nuclear" diss track, and didn't let people enjoy the moment until it was time to enjoy *his* moment. I had just gotten home from work and remember being surprised to see Family Matters dropped (cause I saw 6:16 in LA when I *woke up* for work). After watching the Family Matters video I was thinking "well he's not winning, but he's certainly holding on much longer than I thought he would. this beef might not be over as quick as I assumed." My main gripe was it was a better song than a diss track, but I figured his popularity would spin that into a positive thing for him. then as the video was wrapping up I saw Meet The Grahams had dropped. I was flabbergasted for the entire song, from the first line until the last one. But once it finally finished, I couldn't help but genuinely start laughing at the fact that Drake literally only had 5 minutes out of the entire year in which I thought he would survive tthe battle the same way he survived Pusha T. And by the end of those 5 minutes, I was reminded why that thought of mine was a mere temporary lapse in judgement lmfao

I reckon Euphoria's revenue makes more sense when you look at it compared to Pushups. Pushups was on streaming services for 11 days before Euphoria came out. I'm sure if Family Matters/MTG came out 11 days after that, Euphoria's revenue would have been up there with it, but of course it was only 4 days before those two songs took attention away from everything that happened previously. I'm still kinda surprised Euphoria has less than MTG just given that - for a lot of the Kendrick fans who are more lyrically-attentive - it tends to be their favourite track out of the whole beef, but maybe with time it'll have a longer tail and rise above MTG

I think when it comes to Meet the Grahams and Euphoria, more people probably streamed Meet the Grahams because it's so scathing and easier to digest. It has a fairly straightforward beat and lyrics. It's more like Kendrick having a conversation rather than rapping. People that weren't even into hip hop were listening to Meet the Grahams because Drake is so big and the talk around it created curiosity for people. Not to mention the things Kendrick was saying. I can see people wanting to run that back again to fully take it all in. Euphoria is my favorite song out of the whole beef, but it's definitely more for hardcore hip hop fans. There are so many layers to it, so many references, things the average listener might not know about without research/keeping up with hip hop, double and triple entendres throughout, etc. And while Euphoria and Family Matters both have two beat switches, Family Matters is way easier to break down and understand. Also I like Push Ups more, but I can see people liking Family Matters slightly more musically. And I can see Drake fans listening to it a lot. Still sad to see Euphoria the lowest on the list, but I guess that's still not bad considering the type of song it is.

Meet the grahams numbers?!?! WOW!!! I believe the opinions / preferences of many of the podcasters didn't match the public's response to the track. I don't know if the public thought in terms of flow, bars, musicology...It could be the pure entertainment of the track which didn't have much to decipher. Kendrick came straight at him and his family and maybe that resonated with the public more than the analysis of any given track.
@EANDM7110 күн бұрын
Euphoria was overshadowed by “6:16 in LA” which came out the next day, followed by “Family Matters”. The problem that “Euphoria” had is the same problem that “Family Matters” had-it didn’t get a chance to settle before another song was released. Euphoria is very layered and lyrically complex, takes longer to digest. Family Matters did better because it was the best of all Drake diss tracks and because it had the Kendrick/Whitney/Dave Free character assassination bars in it.

I’m happy it got more money than euphoria. I think I’m one of the few who has it as my favourite and euphoria as my least favourite in the battle. Meet the grahams for me what a dream come true because it was really the diss track that I always envisioned from Kendrick. Personally I love Kendrick for his conceptual storytelling, song structuring, and his very precise and attention-to-detail style in regards to sonics and songwriting. That aspect is why I’ve always (before the battle) wanted him to get into a battle where he shows how he can use that in attack mode. And the other thing that I’ve always wanted him to do is a horror song of some kind. Not necessarily horrorcore because that’s a little cringe but, like, a spooky song maybe along the lines of clipping. music because I felt he would be able to do that well. Before the beef the closest we ever got was the Abortion Money leaked song, but then meet the grahams dropped and it was so shocking and crazy and was done so interestingly to me. He got spooky Alchemist production and Kendrick’s tone throughout it is so masterful. He scratched both itches at the same time and that’s still so crazy to me as a fan. And I’m someone who’s been in circles where the Drake dirt is known for a long time and this was the song where he aired it all out, and it was just.. Idk. Nothing compares to the feeling of listening to that song for the first time to me, especially after Family Matters had just dropped and I got worried for Kendrick. It’s the perfect Kendrick diss in my eyes because he used everything he’s a master at to his advantage, and I’m pretty sad it got known as just one of the “tea” disses.

Also, even if you did listen to it multiple times you weren’t talking about it after the fact. Just sort of sitting and thinking and self soothing. 🥺

Do they have the numbers for when 50 vs Jav were beefing? That would be interesting to see as well

I need a recount because the way Euphoria is still on replay for me is wild...

They've must've mixed up the numbers for meet the grahams and euphoria. The must've. It doesn't make sense. From spotify streams to reactor videos, in all euphoria has the better numbers. By at least a factor of three.

Meet the Grahams outperforming euphoria is extremely surprising to me too. I purchased euphoria and went back to it many times during the weeks following it's release. While I certainly enjoy and appreciate Meet the Grahams, it is undeniably brutal and downright uncomfortable to listen to, so I rarely go out of my way to do so.

Meet The Grahams changed the game strategically and lyrically. Know where you was when that digital dropped. Not surprised at all.

Meet the grahams is more scathing and the concept behind it makes people listen over and over but I agree I think Euphoria lyrically is the hardest hitting track in the beef
@TheTruePrudentOne9 күн бұрын
5:10 @TheCompanyMan, could it be that people listened to meet the grahams more due to break down value? I still think that euphoria should have been along with family matters.

The problem I have with the payola issue in what you’re saying, is if Drake didn’t benefit from it. if he was just as popular and just pop-in as Kendrick is today with all those awards and all those accolades from back then it stands to reason that it could be the issue. 🤔

Im also a bit shocked about meet the grahams performing better that euphoria! But at least i know that im not the only one who just really enjoys listening to that track

Euphoria was probably my favorite out of them all!! Just inching out NLU!! Euphoria is absolutely freakin amazing!!💪💪🤘🤘 Edit: aubrey must have some BIG fans at billboard!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂

Meet the grahams was low key the most genius incisive track of all 5. Not like us was almost overkill and unnecessary. He had him at the grahams

I feel like MTG beat euphoria because non-Kendrick/non-hip hop fans started tuning in later in the week. They wasn’t listening to euphoria that Tuesday at 11am.

MTG is the best DT overall. It's something new/ different from what we've seen in the past. The moment, sorry, the stumping makes it bigger too. Just underrated cos it's spooky, not something folks can shake 'em ass to, & not catchy unlike NLU.

Definitely surprised that Meet The Grahams made more money than Euphoria. It was definitely the most viral moment in the beef to that point but I still don't know. Maybe it's because more fanart used Not Like Us and Meet the Grahams than Euphoria? But idk

my KZbin music wrap up included Euphoria, 616 in LA, Meet the Grahms, and Not Like Us. I called it the "I Hate Drake" EP and I think yours and my listens to Meet the Grahms is probably competitive in plays

in regards to Meet the Grahms being higher profit over Euphoria. it might be because of just how quickly everything released that month and maybe euphoria got washed out of the conversation
