why would put the car on the dyno without a oil change and new spark plugs.You're not getting a true reading. The tuner/dyno guys should of told you that
@sweetdreams1DIAM0ND
@sweetdreams1DIAM0ND 7 жыл бұрын
vahag y they are not pro tuners, just got the cheapest dyno that you need to install your wheels on, (means you wont the get the right reading because wheels have rolling resistance into them and reduce the hp and torque, and Im sure you dont drive without rear wheels) to get the audio and other simple wired stuff type of customers to trust them and think "look they got a dyno so it means they are sooo good at smaller things like installing my $20 speakers"
@Dazedviper1
@Dazedviper1 7 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. Since these do bolt up to your hubs they will give you a higher reading. ALso they wont ever slip or bounce off rollers. They have mathematical equations that would fix it. To be a real world numbers.

Andrej Kostovski that's a pretty standard figure it's more of a average the new gtr only has about 10%. Drivetrain loss but there some Subarus that have in the neighborhood of 30% + Drivetrain loss there's way too many variables so most people just use the 15% figure

I believe it runs rich like that in the upper RPMs to reducing the chance of detonation being that it is force inducted. Having detention at higher RPMs can be catastrophic. I'm sure the stock tune is more on the safe side and you can get a tune to lean it out a bit to extract some power.

It's dumping fuel in because there isn't enough air moving into the engine with only one fan. That combined with worn out plugs causes the computer to try and adjust for the lack of air and maintenance.

*put some E3 plugs in it and some 8mm plug wires on it and try it again also a K&N air filter and you may well get your 400HP out of it at that point. you're close as it is but the E3 plugs will make a huge difference. also put in Mobil 1, Royal Purple, or Rotella Synthetic oil and clean out your engine before the oil change with Seafoam all of those things i just mentioned may even put you over the 400 HP mark and they are not super expensive upgrades and they will not only increase performance but also keep your car running better for longer. those things made a HUGE difference in the performance of my 99 tahoe and each thing was more noticable as i added each different item*

The 493/516 is BHP, which is the engine by itself without accessories. Even the water and oil systems are fed with external pumps so the engine can put out as much as possible. With the drivetrain you can take about 73hp off automatically (15% rule, but may be a high percent with automatic transmissions), and the accessories can vary in parasitic loss percentages. Yes, 365 is low, but its not too far off. New spark plugs, changed oil, air and fuel filters and that should bring it back to where it should be. Probably wont hurt to run a fuel system cleaner as well.

Looking at the dyno, you can notice that peak torque happens before 2K rpm and from then on is flat for around 2K rpm more before going down dramatically. On thing I've noticed with MB cars is when you tap the accelerator, you get INSTANT torque and you just feel that 'push'. That can explain why MB cars tend to have LOWER REVVING engines without sacrificing acceleration. It seems they can do that because they can make the transmission ratios taller causing the engine to rev lower. That might explain why MB doesn't rely on an outside company to supply them the transmissions like BMW, Audi, Fiat, etc. They build their own. Because MB has lower revving engines, that can explain why Tavarish and other owners haven't complained about engine failure but (LOL) electronic failure that are irrelevant to the engine. And Tavarish seems happier with his SL55 AMG compared to his Aston. Also, it explains why MB is also in the commercial vehicle industry. In the US, it owns the trucking brand, Freightliner, and the engine manufacturer, Detroit Diesel. Lastly, since MB doesn't have to spend its capital on maintaining its engines like its competing manufacturing brands, such as BMW, Audi, VW, and Porsche, it has the extra capital in making their models feel more comfortable and technologically advanced. The reason I bring up those brands is because they priced around the same as MB, but they are very DIFFERENT.

Tavarish. Re you increasing Dyno readings on the SL55 with subsequent tests, when I first drove an SL55 in 2002 when they launched in the UK, Mercedes told me that the car offered adaptive responses in that if you drove it gently, the throttle and brake feel reflected this but that when you started to drive it harder that they they firmed up to match your driving style. At the time when i started the test drive the car felt quite soft but as we went through a spirited test drive it certainly started to firm up. I have had an SL55 for about 8 years now but it feels the same all the time (maybe I drive it hard all the time), hoever, if there was some truth in what Mercedes said to me in 2002, could it be that as you push the car harder as in the Dyno test, that it remaps the ECU to reflect. Just a thought, anybody know. Loving your posts on the Mercs, inspiring me to wrench almost every day Simon

Change those air filters! Not sure how that particular ECU works, but a lot of times at WOT they are "open loop" so it's not using the O2 sensors. If there is some kind of airflow restriction, you'll get less air but the same fuel, and it will lose power and run rich.
@peterj5751
@peterj5751 7 жыл бұрын
The drop off in power and increase in fuel ratios says to me it is starving for air, probable due to the air cleaner being old and dirty. Yu could have quickly checked for this by taking it out for a dunk run. Better still, Change the oil, plugs, leads and air filter and run it again.

Spec wise it should be 493hp at the crank. This dyno requires the wheels to be taken off but I think the usual 15% drivetrain loss is still relevant here. Hence multiplying 386 at the wheel/axel x 1.15 gives you a corrected horsepower of 443.9 horsepower which is damn good. Put in new spark plugs and air filter and you may be closer to 450 hp which is damn good for a 10+ year old car.
@jospi2

With the AFRs getting richer as the RPMS go up higher, i would first do a boost leak test, before looking at replacing anything. from the AFR numbers it looks like its not getting the air it expects according to the tune(O2 sensors, unless they are wideband, wont pick that up if its too far out of range) on the ECU

According to Wikipedia: 500 PS (368 kW; 493 hp)@6100 700 N·m (520 lb·ft) @2650-4500 Accounting for estimated average of 15% drivetrain loss, should be 419 hp & 442 tq at the wheels. Seems like you making a bit more torque than average. 419-386(dyno#) = -33 hp, that's 7% down on power. 442-468(dyno#) = +26 tq, that's 5% up on torque. Actual drive train loss for hp: (386/493) = .782-1.00 = .217*100 = 21% Actual drive train loss for tq: (468/520) = .90-1.00 = .10*100 = 10%

Not going to get into driveline loss debate, but I do wonder what new Mobil 1 Synthetic, plugs, coils (assuming they're needed), and air filters would do? My standard M113 in my '02 S500 jumped ~3MPG city and hwy with its 100k mile "tuneup", which I did early due to age at ~90k mi last year. Ouch, re: power. I think you need new plugs ASAP. And possibly O2 and MAF and air filter. Another thing you need to check immediately is whether or not your Intercooler Pump is working - that fails very often on these cars, and there is no warning from the computer, or any check engine light if it's failed. Way to test it is hook up an OBD2 scanner to it, and while it's hot, monitor the intake air temperatures. If it's over 140-150F consistently without hard driving, your intercooler pump has failed. You need to fix it ASAP because, one, the supercharger will not run when temps are that high - it will engage and disengage immediately...A stock M113K/722.6 engine/trans combo should be putting out at least 400HP and 450TQ to the wheels... My stock 2003 E55 AMG put out 412HP/467tq to the wheels...

Not bad for the state the car is in. If you change the oils, filters etc. and give it some good runs, I think it will pick up some horsepower. Here's an idea for a future video. Everyone here is saying you should have changed the spark plugs before the dyno run. So do a video of you changing the spark plugs on this car. ALL 16 OF THEM, MOST IN STUPIDLY DIFFICULT TO REACH SPACES IN THE ENGINE BAY, WHICH IS SO TIGHT THAT YOU CAN BARELY EVEN SEE THE PLUGS LET ALONE SWING A WRENCH IN THERE TO RELEASE THEM FROM THEIR ABNOXIOUSLY LONG THREADS. Then tell us how you love your M113 engined mercedes afterwards. Oh and they are platinum, so you are looking at least $180USD for a set of plugs. PS- I own a M113 engined Mercedes, and I love it :-).

Well technically, 360-370whp sounds about right for this car. If you factor in that its an early 2000's mercedes with an automatic, 25% drivetrain loss sounds reasonable and 493*0.75=370 so its actually really good considering the condition of the car.

Isn't those hp specs from the factory crank and the wheel is typically about 15-20% difference? I mean know there not an exact science but that is true it is doing pretty good, right?

The reason it picked up horsepower after the cooldown was because it wasn't heat soaked. The M113k heat soaks its ass off.
