I have an SL500 (2004). Couple of things that might help you. The front battery only does the start and ignition, it’s rare to have a problem. It eats the rear battery so I have an external charge point. It goes through a fuse in case somebody thinks it funny to short it out. It’s a problem with a lot of mercs that the pumps fail. This is mainly due to water in the boot. Drill a few 1/8 holes under the pump to stop any moisture build up.

I am going to watch your series because I am aiming to buy either C55, CLS55 or E55 AMG next year ! SL55 is not for my climate in UK. I think it's a great idea to put a manual gearbox in your car (2 door coupe). I think I would try and aim for comfy solution as priority to keep the Mercedes feel, but if not available just go for aggressive clutch. I will be interesting to see which car the gearbox will come from. M5 sounds like good donor. The 5 speed automatics in C55 and E55 are being reviewed as slow in reaction, so this would definitely please car enthusiasts who crave manuals :)

@Tavarish, the window switch issue is a common fault with the 2007 w221, its the window ecu (in your case, driver side window ecu). first and cheapest solution is to use STAR diagnostics to update the firmware on it, 80% of the time it will correct it, the issue is in the programming of the old firmware that triggers a overheat safety cutoff and does not revert back to operate again, even if u disconnect all three batteries or use a code scanner, it NEEDS to be updated by STAR. I've done this fix on my personal w221 s500 2007. While your at it, update all window ecu. Good luck, hopefully you won't need a new window ecu!

@Tavarish in case nobody else has commented on this - the 'Service C' message on your S class' dash relates to the amount of time needed on the next service. Many confuse service A, B, C, etc, on Merc's of that era as a fixed schedule of work in each case but in fact it's a summation of the estimated time that the service items the ECU has decided will be needed on the next service from a long list of possibles. 'A' being the shortest time, 'B' being a little longer, 'C' even longer, etc, etc, until 'F' as best I recall. The car's ECU will tell you what it wants doing on its next service, and hence how it's arrived at 'C' time in your case, either via a not-so-well-hidden 'secret' dash menu or via appropriate diagnostic software. Typically, a Service 'A' is likely to be engine oil change only, so is somewhat predictable each year as a minimum service requirement, but once you're into 'B' and above there are a number of items it could ask for in addition to the oil & filter change. I did a Service 'B' on an E-Class recently, and that was engine oil & filter plus general checks of brake fluid level, wiper blade condition, tyre pressures, etc, so not much bother. Usefully, once you know how to access the hidden dash menu (which is also how you reset the service indicator/reminder after carrying out the service) you can immediately see after reset what it will want next time and you have 12 months to get ready for it! In the case of the E-Class I mentioned above, it wants a 'Service C' next time, to include engine oil & filter change, check of engine auxiliary belt and tensioner condition (and replace if necessary), change of brake fluid, and general checks of engine coolant level, tyres, etc - all of that in time terms adds up to a 'C' according to Merc-Maths ☺️
