Excellent comments here. I love the Patek chronograph also. The 7750 Valjoux calibre is a super movement- I’ve had three chronographs with this movement. Be careful though as it’s much copied and some of the copies are really high end! Not a Rolex man myself but you see a lot of of restorations of their watches that are seemingly beyond repair- testament to their quality!

Question, I have 3 watches on rotation so everytime I cycle back to the 1st watch, I will need to set it if I do not put it in a winder. So keeping it running in the winder for 3 days VS unscrewing the crown, wind up, setting date to 1 day before and advancing the time 12 to 24hrs to advance the date and get the a.m, p.m correct and screw back the crown. Which option creates more wear to the movement?

Great vidéo One question more. How long can you let your watch rest ? It is for my rotation. Usually 6 weeks rest and 6 weeks wearing it.
@Paka19833 ай бұрын
I once let my one watch rest for 11 years. Then winded it and it started running immediately. Oils nowadays are very good and doesn't dry up easily.

If you’ve purchased your watch within the last 15 years you do Not need to service at any set intervals especially if the watch is not worn everyday and is part of a larger rotation. Newer watches use synthetic oils that do not gunk up, degrade, or evaporate like older mineral oils. Periodically check them on a timegrapher and if the amplitude is between 230-315, small beat error, not running too fast or too slow then there is absolutely No reason to submit the watch to an intervention that may ultimately introduce issues that were not originally there.

Finally someone here who has some common sense.
@WMIYC3 ай бұрын
Not that I disagree, but keep in mind that synthetics do degrade - just at longer intervals.

I mean why take off a watch rated for 200m or 300m when you shower? Are your socks rated for that much depth water resistance?

Exactly. Of course I wear my watches in the shower. What then? Scuba diving?!? Please.

1:52 surely he means “hot water” here, not merely “water.” It’s the hot water that is the issue here, right? Wearing my ISO dive watch in water is par for the course, but not a hot shower, no?

@@BlogofTheW3st Ignore the troll lol. Hot water is the issue - it has a much greater risk of heating up and expanding materials, allowing for small gaps where moisture and steam etc can sneak in. Best to avoid hot showers and jacuzzis, but in reality plenty of people wear their watches in those situations without an issue. Just something to keep in mind

The watch winder comment is subjective. Some very advanced winders out there. Been using one for 15 years and every watch I have serviced the watchmaker says no more wear on my watch from using a winder then not.
@susokraut31694 ай бұрын
How could it not have more wear when it is running constantly? I guess your watchmaker is just polite or wants your money for more frequent services....
@mark_n_r4 ай бұрын
Neither. Luxury watches are designed to be used continuously between services- they are not cars.
@susokraut31694 ай бұрын
@@mark_n_r that is some ignorant remark. Sure, you can use them contunuously, but that reduces clearly service intervals. There are simply parts in movements which experience wear and tear and also need lubrification.
@mark_n_r4 ай бұрын
@@susokraut3169 The service intervals are set by the manufacturer to a watch being used every day, for example 10 year service intervals for a Rolex (that's taking into account everyday use). Go beyond that timeframe and that is where excess wear and tear occur. I agree someone is ignorant, and I'm chatting to him now !

The reason for not wearing your watch in the shower, even if it has a very high water resistance, is because over time soap scum will build up on the watch.
@ivoshandor68594 ай бұрын
That won’t be a problem if you clean it like they said… the actual reason is steam. Watches may be water resistant but they’re not steam resistant. It’ll cause condensation inside of the watch.
