Yep. A friend was an engineering support manager at Chevy back then - he said the Avalanche mid-gate was the #1 support item. The seals would break down after about a year and water would start leaking into the cabin. Obviously not on all vehicles, but enough that they were his biggest headache.

OMG. YES WE’RE FULLY AWARE *GM* HAS BEEN A TOP INNOVATOR IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY FOR DECADES AS THIS FEATURE ISN’T NEW, DOES THAT MAKE THE MID-GATE ANY LESS PRACTICAL? You *haters* are so triggered at the sight of this and the Hummer. Why y’all so mad? That’s a rhetorical question, it’s pretty obvious why y’all are so pressed. So I digress.

@@G-Ratedbecause this just means more weather seals to rot out and need replacing. Remember how the avalanche went away? It’s because they were impractical. I’ll stick to my 05 sierra 1500 lol.

Exactly like a 2005 chevy avalanche. They couldn’t make it so the back window just rolls down (like in a tundra) so you don’t have to remove it.
@b22chris
@b22chris Жыл бұрын
I’m guessing Toyota has a design patent on that similar to how dodge has a design patent on their minivan seats that stow away and become completely flat.
@jakelee5456
@jakelee5456 Жыл бұрын
That was by design. You can let the mid gate down while keeping the window and bed cover in place, thus creating an enclosed bed space over eight feet long.
@G-Rated
@G-Rated Жыл бұрын
@@b22christhat’s like saying Toyota had a patent on the operation of a window inside of a door. I’m pretty sure the way Chevrolet did the glass will be more reliable down the long run with manually removing and reattaching the glass. It also probably allows for a lighter doorway with the lack of motors and electrical wiring for a powered window inside the divider which you’d lay flat.
@samuelsalas5713
@samuelsalas5713 Жыл бұрын
@jakelee5456 If you look closely I looks like the back glass goes over a gasket on the seat so you can not put the seat down without removing the glass.

If they got the seals right (unlike in the old Avalanche,) this seems like a great implementation. Between this, the "multi flex tailgate", and the 6' bed, this really is a versatile truck. Now if only it didn't have the Avalanche-like "flying buttresses" so a standard cap/camper could mount on it…

Works just like my ‘13 Avalanche. With the tonneau in place and the glass in place, I can carry 4x8 sheets under cover with the tailgate closed. Perfect for hauling gyproc in the rain! Absolutely the most useable thing about it. And I have gotten as low as 6.9 L/100 km for a full tank of fuel. For our American friends, that’s 34 mpg. At 55-65 mph. I’ll keep this thing till it’s dead.

Well they took the "innovative" rear step from the Avalanche years ago, about time they brought it back properly w/the midgate. I had a 2003 Avalanche for many years, absolutely loved that truck. I didn't have the leak problems others reference, although my 4wd was glitchy all the time instead lol. My main issue was you didn't want to haul dirt/gravel/etc in the bed, it would clog up the drains and get into the midgate hinges/etc. I do think it's fairly comical they just brought it back as an EV. The RST price tag is pretty steep, will be interesting to see how it sells.
