I'm not sure if I'm correct about this, (so definitely do your own research first too,) but from what I've heard you can just remove the mold and use the vinegar as normal, as vinegar doesn't go off itself - as long as the mold hasn't overtaken the whole jar, then I've heard it's still good vinegar once you skim off the mold.

Oh I made hard cider last year from all the apples I had access to around my neighborhood and from picking with the family for fun. I ended up getting about 4 gallons of juice that I fermented into a nice dry carbonated cider. Yum. Have you ever tried cloudy apple cider vinegar? Its so so delicious!! Apple cider soda is good too! Do you have a ginger beer plant? I use half a cup of ginger juice to inoculate 3 gallon capacity of soda. It can be used to make bubbly lemonade, lime-ade and snapple pop, pear soda. (we call it soft drink, I think you call it soda) I make it from the juice of our English mulberries as well.. I recycle plastic one litre water or soft drink bottles. That way when I bottle it's up, I squeeze out the excess air as I'm tightening the cap and as they ferment and become Everest and, the bottles expand out to original size. That's how I know when they are ready to drink. Sometimes have to give them a burp if there's lots of sugar in the apples etcetera. I've cracked opened a bottle of soda after a year and still absolutely delicious

You’re correct in using the imperfect apples. I talked with a local apple place (now gone) years ago. They made their own cider, and said that if you only use perfect apples, the cider will wind up tasteless. Even a worm or two is part of the real thing. They also made cider doughnuts that were the BEST! I swear I can still taste and smell them just thinking about them!

I have the same press and holy cow is it a pain in the ass. I miss the days of college when my downstairs roommate had access to a real cider press. It was easy! It had the shredder attached and the press was in the back without that stupid rod in the middle. We pressed 30 gallons in one party.
@lukevarney1120
@lukevarney1120 10 ай бұрын
My brother and I would go to our grandparents and use a very similar antique press to extract as much cider as possible from the chopped apples. The press we used had four vertical handles, so we would stick an old softball bat in-between the handles to add some torque and maximize our cider output. With everyone working together, we routinely made enough cider to us through the winter (we'd freeze it). It is easily my favorite fall beverage. Using the hand grinder and press is quite the workout, but the reward is totally worth it.

I love your chanel, but it looks labour intensive. How about investing in a Hurom slow juicer? You get the apple juice and the pulp to make apple muffins.
