Fyi, when you did your first pulls you pressed the traction control button to "turn off your traction control". The first time you press the button it only partially disables the traction control. Your traction control is a 2 stage traction control. To fully disable it in the Ford F150, you have to press and hold it a second time for about 5-7 seconds and it will tell you traction control off again and now it is fully disabled except for roll over protection. Pressing it again (for the third time) will activate the traction control (so will shutting off the truck and restarting it). Hope this enables you to get the max out of your truck upgrades

In the size shown at 6:05 there's only 9 options available on TireRack. All of them are off road oriented. Perhaps you need something like the continental extreme contact, which places an emphasis on wet on-road traction. Unsure if it's made in a size and load/speed rating compatible with you new wheels. i would definitely recommend looking towards something in the sport truck category. The tread design and compounds vary greatly between categories.

@Fix_It_Again_Tony6 жыл бұрын
You might try tires designed for rock crawling as I think they have softer compounds. However, at 35 degrees, you are just going to have trouble. You could try a light truck snow tire in the same size. The difference in ambient temp makes a HUGE difference in tire grip. In the summer you are going to need a different tire than the winter if you want to maximize traction. The compounds are optimized for an ambient temperature range. I'm from Pittsburgh and live in Harrisburg now, so I am familiar with the climate in PA. With the upgrade I recommend at least changing all of your drive line fluids. Maybe to something made to handle heat better, especially in the transmission. Maybe even invest in a auxiliary bar and plate type ATF cooler like one from Earl's or Setrab. Heat kills automatic transmissions through oxidation of the fluid at high temps. The transmission in my car is made by ZF, but they licensed the design for that transmission to Ford (the 6R series). I actually use Mercon SP in my ZF 6HP21. I think there is an even newer Mercon fluid now, but I haven't kept up with it (Mercon LV maybe?). Red Line and Amsoil also make good fluids though I've not had trouble with the Mercon. I mild transmission tune is also advisable. I say mild because you can ruin the daily drivability if you aren't careful. You still want it to be driveable. I have a turbo engine putting out about 33% more torque than from the factory (power doesn't cause traction problems or drive line breakages, torque does) and I have been pretty lucky in not blowing any of my drive line up. I just had to replace the driveshaft but it has 170,000 miles on it. It's been tuned for about 100,000 miles. I used Hankook RS4 tires, but that's not going to work for your truck. You greatly increased the output of your engine, now don't forget the rest of the power train.

@AmericanAutomotive16 жыл бұрын
For what its worth no tire is going to hook up well in those temps. Sure a grippy all season would be slightly better but even a high performance summer tire will be useless in the cold. Most of them aren't even designed to be used in temps lower than 30-40 degrees. I have a feeling you'll find that from a 30 roll you'll have pretty good grip with any all terrain or hybrid tire like you have. To get good grip below that in 2wd you would need something like a nitto 420 and 80 degree temps.

Dude, I love your truck the way it turned out but your asking the impossible. First off your 4wd hi mode was NOT made to do launches the way you are doing them. Keep doing that and you will be replacing the whole driveline. This is a truck that had 400 hp stock brand new and now you are introducing 608 hp to this older driveline, not advisable . Second, you are in a lifted truck and your traction is compromised by that alone, you are not going to get that much more traction by changing any tire. I understand that you got a new toy with all that horsepower, but it is not designed for what you are asking of it.

The 10ply tires are going to be tough with that lightweight truck. I'm guessing you are running about 40psi? There is no sidewall flex. The sidewall is too ridgid and the truck is too light. I had a 2015 with the 2.7 EB, 3.31 gears, and 34" toyo rugged terrains. I could get no grip 2WD in winter or summer if the pavement was the least bit wet. I could break loose even at 55mph.

Crazy that my 2010 5.4 gets a tad bit better gas mileage than your 5.0. I average around 14.5 city driving and if I'm on the highway I get 17ish. The best I've done is 20 mpg with my gas mileage tune on. I have come close to that a few times averaging around 19.5. This only happens on long beach trips (330 miles), and this was with the bed of my truck fully loaded. I also have a leveling kit, exhaust, and tires pretty close to 33 inches on 18 inch fuel Krank rims. That makes me feel a little better about my truck. My friend has a lifted 2016 on 35s and gets 18 on the highway which is really good for a lifted truck. I just imagined all 5.0s got better gas mileage than my 5.4, but I know driving habits make a difference as well.

A tonneau would help some too. The wind is probably hitting your tailgate, pushing the front end up. But yeah, some tires and other changes would help as well.

But your not spinning all 4. I'd be that front diff is almost certainly an open diff and the rear I'd be willing to bet is also not a limited slip. You're only spinning 2 wheels. One in front one in the back.

My ‘14 FX4 isn’t an open diff up front but the rear e-locker disengages at 25mph unless you add the Raptor module and shift selector in the dash.

There is a youtuber that has a 4 wheel drive supercharged (650hp) 2018 f150, his channel name is Boosted F-150 . He runs all season Nitto 420's and drag raced them in 4 high. Nitto has some with a 32" outer diameter in a 20" wheel 305/50R20 120H XL. They are 12.44" wide. Those might work on your new wheels and give you traction.
