Wow. I live in this area, I eat at restaurants in this area. My roommate & I recall numerous occasions where after eating dinner in Flint, we would become ill and had flu-like symptoms. It's sickening to know that the rice we ate was boiled in that water. the food we ate was prepared using that water, even the ice water we had with our meal was poisoning us. I wonder how many other people have been exposed to these same conditions..? Millions I guess. This not only affected the residents of Flint but also anyone who ever tried to support Flint by dining in it's restaurants. .. Also if the water ate the pipes, what has it done to everyone's hot water tanks and indoor plumbing..? Good Grief, what has happened here.

In the early 1920s or so, the Flint River was clear. Along the banks were picnic spots. People swam and fished in the river. After WW2, car production was high and stayed high for decades. Flint was basically one car factory after another. At the start of that period, waste from some of the huge car factories near the river was released into the water. Pollution control at that period of time was extremely lax. The river soon became highly polluted. By the 1960s kids were told not to play in the water and to wash their hands and feet with tap water if they got them wet from being around the river's edge & NEVER to drink water from the Flint River. The river became a cess pool from when the factories were going strong and when they left, the city fell fast into decline. Criminal activity from Detroit and Chicago moved in and dominated the city as displaced factory workers left the city and state. The Flint river became a popular spot for dumping dead bodies. Only people who did not grow up in that booming factory town, work in those factories, and live through the city's decline could be so ignorant about the safety of the Flint River water. What people don't know about history can kill them.

Snyder has to go and be prosecuted. This is a great tragedy for each person affected by the water and for our nation to have such a thing happen and immediately be not fixed. A great video and ACLU !!! This must be another incremental approach to problem solving--so useful when it affects human lives. Thanks, government and Obama.

Hi. I’m from the Chicago area and I appreciate this informative vIdeo. I hope things are getting better. Here is my question: It was shown that many Michigan cities received state revenue sharing and that it had been cut severely, especially in Detroit. So if Detroit charged Flint 12 million dollars for water, Detroit would need less revenue sharing from the state and Flint would need more. It seems that for Michigan as a whole it would be nearly revenue neutral. (Give more money to Flint and less to Detroit). So why not encourage Flint to buy water from Detroit and avoid all this pain? Thank you in advance for your answer.

I just want us all to think about the fact that a natural river is that polluted. I wonder how we all managed to do that?
@LordSlag
@LordSlag 9 жыл бұрын
+mark wilson The river isn't polluted. The river's natural content made it react with the pipes it was flowing through, pulling the lead and other contaminants out of the pipes and fittings. That is the reason you must treat such water with anti-corrosion techniques, which the Flint officials did not do, and hence, this problem.

+mark wilson historically the river was polluted by the Detroit motor company. Remember Detroit was a major city for the growth of the automobile industry during the industrial revolution... look it up. That's really how the river got polluted. And the auto industry is still so important to the city of detriot that they let the auto industry switch back to the clean water because the car parts were being corroded... :-/ go figure

I signed a petition against the government for they want to chop down old growth forests in California plus other places then sprinkle the the chips on the ground & put Glyphosate on top of it, cause they want deserts instead of forests. So what does that tell you???? Think about it, cause Globalist Elite Parasites that control the government are a Nazi Death cult which are the greatest threat to everyone around the world. They are the same dirtbags that cause all the wars around the world & fabricate the whole War On Terror while they are the real terrorists running their many false flags. They lie about everything in the Mainstream Media so you won't get any truth there, it is why they want to control the internet to stop the real truth getting out. They have many measures to poison all the food & water & it's all planned hope you get it now.

Yes, go after those responsible, help the families currently needing water, and take care of the kids who were exposed. But, what I don't hear people talk about is how are they going to dig up all of the pipes? Are they going to wait for the Federal government to hire people to do it? Do homeowners need to come up with the money to get it done by a company? Are they going to get volunteers to do it? I would be out there digging up my own yard if I knew there was a lead pipe going into my house. If there are lead pipes in the city water main system, then that is a major issue they should be getting fixed. I know I would never trust the water if it was going through lead pipes, regardless of what water treatments or tests showed.

I have a question..... so initially they were getting water from Detroit... then switched to the Flint river...... so that means that before any of this happened, the Flint river was toxic? Or was the toxin coming from the pipes? Like, would taking water directly from the river and purifying it be cleaner than taking it from the tap?

It was largely GM that was dumping its industrial waste into the Flint River for decades that caused the pollution. But hey, corporations are "job creators" so don't let communist government tell them what to do. "Competition's kicking in" soon, so that will save everybody. rationalwiki.org/wiki/Libertarianism

Here is what I have gathered from several documentaries. For some reason, the government in Flint thought the water from Detroit was too expensive. They made plans to temporarily take water from the Flint river which is more acidic than the Detroit water. Whoever did the chemistry for Flint should have had the river water treated to make it more neutral like the Detroit water. When the more acidic Flint river water went through the municipal pipes and home pipes, it ate away at the lead and other minerals which had been dormant. Now, the lead and other minerals were free to come right out of the faucets to be consumed by the residents of Flint. Long ago, when those leaded pipes were installed in Flint as well as the rest of the U.S., people were probably not aware of the potential outcome of their actions. There is no quick fix. Miles of piping have to be ripped up and replaced. I really hope this helps.

For all you people watching this who live in Michigan and especially Flint, where were you during the last election? How many of you voted? In 2014, voter turnout for the Michigan gubernatorial election was only 41.6%. That means almost 60% of all eligible voters in Michigan did not vote. Low turnouts usually favor the incumbent party so if you don't like what's happening in your state and aren't voting, don't expect anything to change.

I don't intent to indirectly justify the actions of Flint city officials but, people in Flint MI can use a water distiller to remove unwanted minerals and metals in the water, as a temporary measure: ebay.to/2jZEQEm Water distillers can remove most substances with a boiling temperature higher than that of water but, it cannot easily remove most substances with boiling temperatures lower than that of water so you may have to process the distilled water through one or several Carbon Filters like Britta. People can also explore reverse osmosis water filtration, though it is more costly and more challenging to install.
