Good representation of most small towns in Indiana... My current city has about 19,000 people and it's still kinda like this video. I used to hate living in Indiana, but these days I appreciate it. Yeah, it's true there's not a whole lot to do here and it lacks a "night life" in most places in the state... But I feel it's a safe place to raise my children l. The cost of living and jobs are not horrible either. we make the most of the small things and try to travel to different places on small vacations.

@@bobowrathsovine.Not really. Some shut-in retirees become busybodies. With a population of 530 its not even true that everybody knows everybody. Some folks just don't have enough to keep them occupied and they might find your activities a point of interest. Other people live in a house with several cats and rarely interact with neighbors. People everywhere have different personalities. Some there will stick mostly to themselves. Others seemingly do know everybody. Most have jobs and busy lives. Nearly everyone in Hillsboro probably grew up within 30 miles from here. If they didn't grow up here, marrying someone from here is a reason they are here. Residents who served in the military may have spouses from far away from here.

Not a lot of entertainment, or specialized shopping, but there are plenty of things to do for most people who live here. I grew up in an Illinois town like this. They probably don't spend hundreds of hours a year in congested traffic which makes for more time for hobbies, fishing, making furniture, growing vegetables, Little League basement games. When they have high speed internet, towns like this can be good remote work locations for some.

@@davidatchison6408 I grew up in a rural town like that. I'll always miss that way of life. I haven't been fishing since then and I don't shoot on my property where I now live. When people talk of the need for affordable housing, there it is. Our town might have grown in size if local farmers had been willing to sell land. We were 16 miles from a larger city with jobs, hospitals and all the retail. It was a boring life in the good sort of way, but I couldn't live there now because my family is here. People from the big city who struggle with housing costs are also unlikely to move to places like that for similar reasons. I could live well there on a household income of $50,000 - actually I could do less than that, many can live on just social security, shop at thrift stores and entertainment is fishing, the grandkids or growing vegetables, collecting antique trucks or tractors. Visit Chicago every couple years, see a Cub game, visit the museums and restaurants. Actually we were Cardinals fans, always will be and St Louis was much closer, but there are two local Amtrak stops to Chicago. Get the early train, take a nap, arrive in time for brunch.
