The positive motivation (higher levels of sensitivity and kedusha) is definitely the way to go about this issue. We recently built a Mikvah in Arcata and the "sales pitch" is the lofty level of deep spiritual intimacy and fiery passion that is achievable through Taharas Hamishpacha (rather than primarily focusing on the gravity of the issur karas).
