Mikael Þorsteinsson so you start off by saying that mazda looks nothing like bmw. Yet you end on saying that they copied bmw’s infotainment and interior styling. Which is it? VW makes audi, why bring that up? All i said about vw is that mazda is finally learning to hide their cheap materials similar to how vw has for years.

The Turbo is not made for the Europian market.. for some asshole climate reason!! I´m so angry I could kill a fly at least.. I live in Iceland and the Mazda3 and Mazda 6 are really popular here and have been for the last 15-20 years. Japanese/Korean/German/French cars are the most sold here. Every mazda lover here in Iceland is so angry about not getting the chance to buy the turbo6.. It's going to show on the sales here I think.

She's right about the short shifting, especially with gentle throttle input. At first, it feels weird for a car to shift so early but it never seems like it's struggling. And "serene" is exactly the same word I use to describe the ride, it's wonderful. Really bad roads can be a little unsettling at times because of the silly (but sexy) low profile tires but it's livable. I hope Mazda resists the urge to change the rear end into some sort of fastback like Honda and others have done. It's not a coupe!

It’s got the 1.8L 4 banger and it is a non interference engine. I’m gonna drive it forever!! It just takes me to work everyday which is only 6 miles from my home.

Sorry, Sarah. Mazda is unlikely to put a manual transmission in the upper level trims with the turbo4 just to see them sit un-purchased and eventually heavily discounted in dealer lots.
@ocramidajzj
@ocramidajzj 6 жыл бұрын
Mazda has also stated that the turbo engine power and torque curves do not suit a stick. As Sarah noted this tranny does short shift, which isnt really stick shift territory IMO.
@TGears314
@TGears314 6 жыл бұрын
ocramidajzj to claim that an engine “short shifts” shows your lack of true understanding of engines. Some engines don’t even idle until 10,000 rpm. So what’s short shifting for that engine? Honestly what really is critical is the max velocity you can have the mass of the piston head moving in the change without creating too much linear velocity in the piston or rotational velocity in the connecting rod. This depends HEAVILY on the stroke depth, bore stroke ratio, and other internal geometry of the engine. So with that said, the main issue with Mazda’s engine design is that its focus still includes efficiency. So the computer, exhaust and intake manifolds, and other computer controlled processes are all designed with the intent of keeping mileage high while still having performance. Ultimately, with proper bolt ons and (more critically) a different engine management system, you could easily have a lot more power output.

I am a huge Mazda fan and am amazed at the things they are able to do as a smaller niche company in comparison to Honda, Toyota, etc. I just wish the public would start recognizing it in sales. I would love to see a MazdaSpeed version of either the 3 or 6. I also hope the rumors are not true about the 3 receiving a torsion beam rear suspension in the next generation. A manual transmission always makes anything better though.

Took a serious look at the Mazda6 (Signature) along with its major competition (most critically, the Honda Accord 2.0L Touring and Toyota Camry V6 XSE) several months ago. I'm a Mazda fan, having owned an AWD minivan, a 626 Turbo, and most recently a much loved (but significantly flawed) RX8. In general I was impressed by the Mazda6. Beautiful exterior styling that will stand up over the years (imo). Likewise, a very, very nice and functional interior. Have to say, though, that it fell just short of the Accord in terms of performance, fuel efficiency, and features. Most disappointing to me was that the tuning of the engine didn't seem to take advantage of the turbo, at least compared to the Honda. Add to that the inferior infotainment system, smaller back seat and cargo capacity and the still missing (though promised) support for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and the Mazda6 came out a close but clear second. The Mazda6 is a good, even an excellent, family sedan. Had the turbo option been available a couple of years ago, it would have been the best of breed at the time. Now, though, it hasn't quite caught up.
@nJuhNeer
@nJuhNeer 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Hendricks Good comments, all. I bought a 2018 Touring as I wasn't too impressed with the turbo engine. Ten grand cheaper than the Signature, and at this lower price point I can live with the few flaws of the car. Mazda says that your local dealer can install the Android Auto / Apple Carplay upgrade starting this month, but my dealer is clueless about it.... Love the looks of the car, inside and out, love the new technology (safety features), and love that it stands out from the sea of Accords and Camrys. Overall, very happy with the Mazda6 Touring.
@stephenhendricks103
@stephenhendricks103 6 жыл бұрын
nJuhNeer: Actually, Mazda claimed in June that Apple CarPlay/Android Auto would be available as a retrofit from dealers in July. Still not there, just as they're missing from the Camry. At least Toyota makes no pretense of including the features in the 2019 model year. Sadly, this seems to be a practice of Mazda recently. Over a year ago they publicly announced they would "soon" be adding a diesel option to the CX9. Another promise unfulfilled.

Fingers crossed. Edit:. Just got a call back from the dealership service department. I miss the Mazdaspeed also. I had a 2013 MS3 it was fantastic I should have never let it go. That said, I really like this engine in this Mazda6. It's SO GOOD to drive! Not to mention it's sexy. Also, the paddle shifter buttons are known to have lag. USE THE GEAR SHIFT! It has up/down in the correct positions (forward for downshift, back for upshift) and there's no lag. Then you see how good the Skyactiv 6speed auto really is! I have it in a Mazda3 and love it.

Sarah and everybody else crying for manual tranny From Mazda: "Mazda was targeting smooth and gradual torque delivery that didn't pair well with a manual. Current manual transmission, which was built to handle the torque of the European diesel engine, just couldn't handle the massive torque of this new turbo engine. In fact, this new Mazda6 has one of the highest torque figure of any FWD car on sale today. In order to prevent torque steer, we made numerous changes to the suspension and steering, as well as the torque delivery. Mazda was targeting a more sophisticated driving experience rather than a sporty one."

Its an ok review but I prefer a real car enthusiast doing reviews whose passion is nothing but cars. Here are some tips. You have to put the car in sport mode and manual shift mode to actually enjoy the acceleration. The gas pedal has two wide open throttle settings. First one is you don’t feel a click even though the pedal is all the way down. Second one is you push little further to get the click from the already flat position. Finally use 93 octane in this car and switch to 17 inch lighter wheels with big side wall and dws 06 conti tires. 19 inch wheels are only for show because this is not a track car. It makes the car louder, abuse the suspension, high risk of having a flat due to no side wall. Factory rubber is an suv falcon low grade rubber with no snow traction. Cheers!

Need a new Generation Mazdaspeed 6. Come on Mazda I believe in you guys. Give us car enthusiasts a manual transmission and AWD with or without Turbo. I’m still driving your Speed6 to this day at 195,000 miles. She’s hanging on but your parts are becoming ridiculously hard to find. Don’t make me have to go to another Car Manufacturer to get my Manual AWD Turbo fix. I don’t want a Subaru or a BMW. I want another Mazdaspeed 6!

Yes I would purchase one new as since getting out of school I've had time to to put money away. I'm only 28 and I'd gotten my Speed6 back in 2009 from a dealer listing I found on Ebay. Yeah I know that sounds bit shady but I took the time to go to the dealership to inspect and look it over as well as test drive it. It was a clean Reconstructed Title so the price was even better and it was cheaper to insure vs a clean title. For me at that given time it was the perfect match. They wanted 9k buy it now on the listing, but they didn't put a reserve and it was currently at little over 6k. So I said I'd pay 8k flat in cash on the condition I come down to inspect and drive the car first. If I was pleased with what I saw and how it handled we'd have ourselves a deal. Dealer didn't have a issue with that after I explained you've got only 4 people who've made offers on the car and I'd be the 5th. Chances are you won't even break the 8k offer I have made you and even if you did Ebay is going to take a % of the sale. You'd have to be in at nearly 8500 to match my offer and you have 2 days left on the listing. This way you keep all the profit and get it off your lot sooner than later if we can make a deal. So went down on a Saturday evening little outside Philadelphia (I live in Pennsylvania) to inspect the car and do the test drive. Everything inside and out was clean. No rust, Electronics worked great, shifted smoothly, new all weather tires, the works. Was a clean reconstruction. Only had 53,000 miles on it at the time or purchase and I've had the car ever since. For a time even debadged the Speed6 to make it appear as a sleeper and lets say I put a lot of STI's, WRX's, Cobalt SS, Dodge Neon SRT's, and a lot of other Turbo Sedans in there place. Not saying won all the time but certainly won a fair number of races and some money. Though now those days are behind me as I've grown up and realized how stupid that was. Going to be doing that go to a dragstrip. Not worth possibly wreaking your car, breaking something on it, losing your license, or any of the other possible bad things that could happen.

Backseat space looks like that of a cramped compact sedan. Seems like in this midsized segment the Passat, Accord, and Camry have the most interior space.

I looked into purchasing a 2014 Mazda6 last month and the interior felt way cheaper than it looked once I was in the car. Has the 2018 moved past that or is it still kinda creaky feeling?

Great review Sarah. Be interesting to see how these hold up in the long run. A 14:1 compression and a turbocharger. Must have some super duty head gaskets!! Plus a lot of exotic electronic do-dads to run it all. Think I will try to find a good used Mazda Speed 6.

I also miss the Mazdaspeed Miata. Though 949 and Flying Miata do a decent job making up for it. Can't wait to try out this car. I liked the 2016 one when I rented it around norcal and took it around some b roads. The handling is the best part of it.

It's about time for all of you Mazda fans, finally a more powerful motor. The exterior of car beautiful, but the only big thing that is killing the power of this motor is the old technological 6 speed transmission. While the competition has a slightly smaller turbo at 2.0, Honda, Toyota and Chevrolet Malibu premier. These cars use state of the art 9 & 10 speeds automatics to move these cars from 0 to 60 and the range of 5.3 to 5.7. Mazdas 0 to 60 is rated at 6.7, the other 3 can turn the quarter mile in the low 14 seconds range. I don't know about the top speed of Toyota or Honda but I know the Malibu premier top speed is drag limited at 153 mpg.

haha.. I made a comment about that.. I have the 2016 Mazda6.. I´m 5'9 and there is plenty legroom in the back.. She has the seat in the furthest back position and the back is tilted back... not in a driving position.. no wonder she doesnt have a decent legroom

The Speed6 was an amazing sleeper. Do wish this was either AWD, or a manual. But its a step in the right direction. But falls behind the Fusion Sport which has AWD and way more power. Oh, and it most likely short shifts in first to mitigate torque steer. Mazda limits boost in 1st as well.

I have a 2016 Mazda 6 and before that I had a 3 '11 and I never found it hard to find the volume adjustment. The back seats suck, I have 2car seats and man is it cramped back there. Sport mode is obviously noted when it's engaged. And the exhaust note can be found when you first start the car it last for about 8sec and it's AWESOME! then is hums down. It's also nice to hear that. It has carplay and auto for this model my 16 Doesn't have it

It is NOT short shifting.. being turbocharged it makes most of it's torque thus HP down low to mid range RPM. So by the time this engine hits 4500-5000 rpm the turbo is to small to keep the torque curve from dropping off thus power peaks then drops off fast after 5800-6000 rpm.. Even if the redline is at 6500 rpm, it is just making just more noise for the most part.

I love your comments on this specific Mazda 6 because I agree with you that the top of the line trim must have the 6-speed manual transmission. I own a 2004 Mazda 6s and I have the 5-speed manual transmission with the 3.0L V6. I would only go for the Mazda 6 of all the generations over the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima because Mazda cars are more fun to drive than the other competing brands.
