I usually rent Mercedes for my business trips. However the recent trip I made was very short notice and they didn't have any available so I rented a 2021 Mazda 6. After driving it nearly 1,500KM.....wow I was sold. The car felt amazing and super comfortable. I honestly felt it was on par to Mercedes C-class in regards to cabin noise, comfort and interior look and feel. So long story short, I'm sold and will be purchasing a Mazda 6 next spring. p.s I had the normal engine, so the one with 187hp and it felt plenty. I bet the faster engine alternative is even better, but I don't have the need for it the quicker version. Update: Just bought a Mazda6 GS-L (Canadian Spec)

Sadly most people will walk into Toyota dealership and buy a camry without a single research just because it's a Toyota. Mazda needs a chance and it'll surprise you.
@Electruver4 жыл бұрын
I test drove Camry, Altima, Accord, Mazda 6, some SUVs like Venza and mininvans like Nissan Quest, a diesel Passat with DSG and a few others, when I was buying a new car in 2013. Camry had the most driving fun for me, because it was the quietest and the most comfortable on the road. Altima got the best seats. Accord was ok but they were hyping up their active noise cancellation thing but it was not as quiet inside as in Camry anyway. VW wanted me to pay them $400 every year for servicing their DSG. However Passat had and still has the best interior design, hands down. No Asian cheap gimmicks, everything looked executive business class bland. I mean *expensive* bland. Exactly what I like style wise (think Tesla but way more ancient tech which is much cheaper). I wish they hadn't used crap DSG transmission back then. Sigh. SUVs and minivans were way too floaty and leaning in turns. Mazda 6 was too bumpy on the road, and a bit more noisy than Camry. Also Mazda reliability with stories about Mazdas rusting through quickly... no, I didn't want to risk that much with a Mazda. Overall Camry won because it was best for 1) quietness 2) fuel economy 3) planted feel on the road when going high speed 80-90 mph (well, not worse than the best at least) 4) reasonably low price 5) lowest maintenance cost overall. So no, people do not buy Camry because they don't know what to buy. It's because Camry has the strongest points where it matters for a normal average US family driver. The minority who is bothered by "handling" or "proper connected feel from the road" etc etc - they of course do not buy Camry, but those who do buy one - it's naive to think they do not compare with other cars when shopping. And now with EVs everywhere even my priorities are shifting, I may dump Toyota as my family brand of choice for the past three decades, and go Nissan or GM, because these guys seem to have better EV platforms overall. Why EV? Well, when you drive in the city, sometimes up to 100 miles a day, mostly up to 60 miles a day, and have an electric outlet near the place you park the car (garage or driveway, etc), have second gas car in your family, and used 2 year old EV prices are quickly falling in between 12-18 grand - buying ICE car in these conditions is quite stupid for many reasons. But this is a separate topic.

Was waiting for this review and as usual you did not disappoint: thorough, practical, honest and as always your observations and analysis seems to hit all the points that I'm concerned about. This is the first review that openly admits that Mazda cannot win when it comes to trying to balance the "noise", "connected", "comfort" qualities while remaining true to their identity. I've test-driven the new 18 Sig about 10 times now and have been struggling over the new balance of luxury and sportiness. Like you I like a car that's connected and fun. I test drove EVERY sedan in this range and above, including Audi A6, BMW 535 and the new IMO over-hyped Stinger and I reached the same conclusion you reached i.e. why spend German money when Mazda has put this much into the 6. Also feel that while Honda built a competitive Accord, their styling direction and overall fit and finish don't come close to the 6. As far as the Camry is concerned, eh, I felt it was cheap and even more homely than the Accord. Also nice to hear at least one reviewer support the 6 speed auto. Every freaking reviewer knocks it on not having more that 6 gears. WTF? Whatever happened to judging a product on the sum of it's parts? Is the 6 perfect, no. Is it a race car- definitely not. But there is compromise in every product. And knowing the amount of R&D and human-centric design as well as Mazda's revised corporate structure since separating form Ford, I'm more comfortable giving them my money than other manufacturers. Also feel compelled to support the little guy. Honda and Toyota have such a strangle-hold on the majority of consumer through crap marketing, when they are arguably don't have a measurably better product or quality (anymore).
@tekz64356 жыл бұрын
Very well said bro! I own a Mazda and yes totally agree and love the 6-spd transmission as it is well programmed and buttery smooth! Sure it could've gone to 8,9 or 10 speed but does it really need it? You can have an 8,9 or 10-spd but if the programming and shifting is crap (feels like hunting gears everytime) then what's the point? Put the right amount of gears in the transmission and tuning to complement the engine and get the best performance out of the vehicle and not merely putting an 8,9 or 10-spd just for the sake of fuel economy!

Nathan5791 this is whats so impressive to me. Mazda engineering and design always seem ahead of competition. People complain that 3rd gen Mazda 6 is coming on 5 years old, but the "bones" of these designs are good enough to compete with brand new products 5 years later. Excellent engineering IMO
@Nathan57916 жыл бұрын
True. Even though it is an old platform, it still manages to look better both internally and externally than the refreshed Accord and Camry which says a lot of how good the car has held its look. Even 5-10 years down the road, the Mazda 6 platform will look fairly modern compared to the last gen Accord and Camry. That is why people say classic designs are timeless.

Boring as all hell. Sure Mazda pretty much copied BMW's design language a few years ago, but now they have a design all their own. The Mazda 6's side vent flares are sooooo good, especially in person. Also, remember Audi and BMW are many thousands more than a Mazda 6.

I agree. The next generation Audi interiors on the lower end models don't look so hot to me (A4, A5). But the upcoming all-new A6, A7, A8 interiors look fresh. The aging current gen entry models A3 and TT look okay on the interior too, despite their prototype interiors shown off in 2011/2014 looked better. I always thought the Mazda design both interior and exterior is right up their with German autos. The one thing holding it back IMO has been the engine until now. I would read about them once making performance models called Mazdaspeed but that was so long ago it seem like folklore today. Here's hoping Mazda roll this engine out on the Mazda 3 too. They would own their actual competitors (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Buick, Chevy, Ford).

Simply put, there are very few non-luxury sedans that look as good as this in 2018, and the interior is exceptional, not just in build and fitment, but on raw design and intuitiveness. Despite some of the lacking tech, this is a really phenomenal car, and I would honestly consider it alongside a lot of entry-level luxury vehicles when comparing. As it is, any family or individual buying this vehicle will really enjoy it, and aside from a few minor technological shortcomings, they’ll probably like it more than any other vehicle in the class.

If you want a modern car, you shouldn't care about anything besides the look of the car. Their is no individuality anymore. All cars are exactly the same these days. Just don't by GM, Ford, or Chrysler, and you're good to go for years to come.

Mazda is killing it, I just wish they'd bring back the Mazdaspeed's & manual transmission. This 6 should be the base and have a sportier handling/looking option above it. I love my MS6!

Yeah one my favorite parts of having a mazda is the less obtrusive traction control. Mazda trusts me to feather the throttle when I'm getting a bit of wheelspin when my friend's golf would have abruptly cut power, causing a huge weight shift forward that could definitely upset the car.
@brent10416 жыл бұрын
The traction control is great in this car. I couldn't feel it till I was almost over my head one time and it kicked in and most likely saved me from a crash. I drive the car hard and the on/off ramps where I am are super tight so I sometimes come in a little to hot.

Tom Fountas I would say that they wont go for rwd but hybrids with electric motor for the rear wheels. One more thing they could add is the rear wheel steering. We'll see. I also think that they are gonna uo the game with newer more advanced transmission but the biggest deal should be these new skyactiv x engines coming out next year. 2.0 skyactic-x will be available in mazda 3 with a manual. And they said the manual is a bit improved too for new mazda 3.

@joesailor615 жыл бұрын
@@mikexcanxjerk I got the Touring model; which means it comes without the turbo. It's not that bad on takeoff, but I'm sure the turbo is way better. Again, being non-turbo, the power is ok, not great. But the engine is really smooth and accelerates decently. Gas mileage has been phenomenal; been getting between 30-36 mpg on the highway in the two weeks I've had it so far. The deals being offered on the non-turbo models are great; they are selling way more of the turbo models of this car. If you go for the Sport or Touring trim levels (non-turbo models), you could get a decent deal. It handles great, the interior is great, and the ride is great. You should at least do a test drive between the two engines to see what you like the best.

OMG,I just was handed the keys to this car yesterday and...wow! Color me impressed! This is my 3rd Mazda,but 1st Mazda 6. I still own the 08 CX-7 2.3turbo but it has seen better days. I had to replace the turbo on it when I bought used 6 years ago. My wife was impressed with it she wanted one. So,we bought her a '15 CX-9 3.7 V6 and again Mazda impressed me with it's biggest CUV model. Now,We weren't even really looking to get me a new car yet but my CX-7 is having issues again because of the high mileage. So,we decided to go for bust on the Mazda 6 2.5turbo Grand Touring trim. I've literally have only had this car in my possession 1 day and I'm all smiles. I can't wait to find it's fun spots after playing around with the sport mode and traction control. Thanks for the review to help clear some things up.

Definitely looks better than all other current gen sedans on the market, especially in the time we live in now where it seems manufacturers are trying way too hard to do futuristic and unique, which for me often results in bloated, awkward proportions, and often too many sculpted lines. I've always been a fan of Mazda 6 for it's styling. It's always a good balance of aggressive and elegant.

This and the Accord 2.0T are easily the 2 best midsize sedans out there. Mazda wins out in interior quality styling inside and out refinement and low end turbo torque while accord for faster sporty driving and manual availability. But the front is ugly and interior is not premium and stylish like the Mazda.
@MegaTechpc6 жыл бұрын
You clearly have not sat in the new Accord. Its interior is very high end and competitive with the 6, which is also very good.

A lot of people don't appreciate the honesty, there's a lot of brand loyalty with car brands and hearing someone with legitimate gripes call your manufacturer or car of choice a turd, people react emotionally. There's enough pseudo car reviewers on KZbin who lavish every car with praise, but there's a few who are looking for someone with honest feedback who's not afraid to crap on a car if it has something that's stupid.

BananaMonkey80 Majority of people aint that intelligent as one would say beside the fact that this is not nuclear science. My neighbor drives an s class with v6 diesel, he doesnt know the cubic capacity of his engine, what v6 means etc... but he claims benc is the best csr out there (just an example). Ryan. Manuals will be a very very small portion of Accord sales. Not worth reviewing. Lets get a real comparison against Camry and Mazda 6
@thatoneotherotherguy6 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth reviewing, IMO. Manuals are a small percentage of sales of any vehicle still offering one, but I don't think that means geese is gonna give up on them. The 10th gen Accord's biggest advantage is that offering, so removing it from a review is a big oversight.
The production quality is dope and dude knows his stuff. My complaints is the cheesy dialogue with Tokyo and the bathroom scene. Putting up the numbers on screen, or at least talk about numbers when talking about performance. Still though, subbed
