To the people saying "Bet they all work at Starbucks now", you're not referring to lawyers. You're referring to people that went to law school cause they were too afraid to face the real world (This is basically half of 1L students). A bunch of them went there cause their pre-law can't get them a job and law school is the only grad option that would make them employable with their degree. The person who dreamed about being an Attorney ever since they were a little kid, the guy who really wants to be a lawyer to make a change, the highly motivated person who is really set on getting into corporate law, or that kid passionate about defending people? You won't see them working at Starbucks as a Barista.

Here is my bar story, which was the CA bar. Started studying the monday after graduation. It was slow at first, but boy did the test sneak up on me. I focused on studying what I could. I was really good at crim pro, so i really did not study that-may like 10 hours total. I really had to work on property because that was my least favorite subject in law school. One thing I did that was a gamble, but it paid off for me was that I did not study business and associations as heavily. I did not take the class in law school, and the chances of it appearing on the bar were much less than any of the other subjects. This extra time allowed me to focus on more difficult mbe areas. So i managed my time, 8-10 hours a day, but still did not feel prepared for the test. The day before the exam i tried not to look at a book, but simply could not keep away from it. I was having panic attacks about what if this was on the test? What is this other thing is on the test mixed with another subject? The possibilities were causing me to lose all hope. The night before the exam I called my dad twice in sheer panic. Finally, the first of the bar arrives. I told my dad to call me at 6 am and to not stop calling till i answered. Anyways, I get to the convention center where I am taking the exam and lucky all my classmates are there as well so it is essentially like the law school exams I took for the past 3 years. I get some food at the 711 across the street. Drink my coffee and just try to relax, and chat with some friends. We finally all start to file into the room. A big grey monstrosity that just added to the bleak mindset we all possessed. I sit down, and set up my computer. It boots up fine, and I start chatting with the guy next to me to ease up the tension. He is a repeater, but a good guy and i hope he passed. Finally I take start the test. First question is contracts, nothing too bad. It dealt with rather common aspects of contract law so I do not have a problem with it. I outline what I am going to type, and then I start typing. 20 minutes in, and my mouse stops moving. I am using a wireless mouse, and try the mouse pad on my laptop. But nothing. I then try typing, but still the same nonresponsive screen just mocking me. Fuck, my computer has frozen. I panic and call the proctor over to say that I need to hand write the rest of the exam. She comes over, and I explain to her what is going on. She looks confused and says she has to ask someone what is the next step. Tick tock tick tock. Time is fading away while I am sitting her doing nothing. tick tock tick tock. She finally comes back, and says start writing. Well I do. I pick up right where I left off, but I write much slower and messier. I then think, you know what i should jsut restart my computer. I do that and keep writing as I wait for it to reboot. When it reboots my computer is acting normally with all of my typing at the point when the computer froze. Great! So i start typing like the wind. The rest of the day was not too bad. Con law kind of threw me through a loop because I felt that I could have talked about a lot more, but some was a stretch. The PT exam was easy to me. The second day was the mbe day, and man that day fucked me like a choir boy. I literally guessed on 60-80 percent of the questions. I called my dad the moment I got back to may apartment, and cried. I knew that I failed, and the goal of being a lawyer seemed so far away. Almost unreachable. The next day I was in a deep valley of depression. I even looked up JD advantage jobs after speaking with some of my school's career advisers. I literally could not stop thinking about all i did wrong. The next day I packed up my apartment and moved back home. The next 4 months were terrible. Panic attacks. The day of results was unbearable. It seemed to drag on, until the final 10 minutes. I started drinking vodka and cranberry to get the courage too look up my results. When the clock hit 6 i said fuck it i need to get this over with. Upon entering in my numbers, I read, "The name above appears on the pass list for the July 2018 California Bar exam." I called my parents immediately and yelled out, "I'm a fucking lawyer!" TLDR: the bar sucks, but you get through it.

(Attending law school part-time in the evening, working 50-plus hours a week, and beating cancer when I was a 1L exhausted the hell out of me and I was brain dead following graduation). What I did learn from this experience is the Javits Center is not a comfortable place to sit for an exam. I sat for my next exam successfully in Albany, which I found to be a far more comfortable setting despite the frigid winter temperature. Good luck to anyone sitting for a bar exam. My only tip is the first bit of advice that I received the first week of law school - "know everything; if you don't know something, learn it."

Julia Brooks, yes, it was. The tension was so thick it was like a fog. The dreaded fear factor cannot be underestimated. And it is for real, with such a low pass rate. And it will get worse, I assure you. Applicants going outside to vomit, and so forth. I am admitted to two other state bars so I took the California Attorney Bar for family reasons, so I was not all that serious about actually passing. There was no multi-state on the attorney bar, so we had a day off. To tell the truth, the only "study" I did was memorize the specific probate code section numbers that we all knew were on the bar, at least at that time some 10 years ago. I would never advise anyone to go to law school, period. Too many lawyers, too few clients, and the practice is almost all the time underhanded, scheming, and on the verge of unethical behavior. I've known lots of lawyers who blatantly violate the ethical rules and the state bar ignores it. Many years ago law was an honorable, learned profession. It is not that now.

I am taking the Uniform Bar Exam in July. I basically spend about 10-12 hours a day watching lectures, going over my notes, making flashcards, and taking practice multiple choice/ written questions. I found that law school itself wasn't very hard after the first year, and I really enjoyed some of my elective classes. This, however, is very grueling and discouraging. I want this to be over but also feel like I won't be ready in 3 weeks. But, this is also the most I have every prepared for anything in my entire life, so I have hopes that my work will pay off come test day. Law school and the bar is not just about learning the material, they are about weeding out people who cannot handle the stress of being an attorney. I worked at a civil rights firm throughout law school and they attorneys I worked with all manage to keep their cool despite having many, many cases that they are working on simultaneously. It's a tough profession, and it's no wonder that it takes so much work to get licensed.

Reminds me of the papers I had to clear during my training to be a paediatrician. 3 papers to clear in total before the final clinical exams. Extremely challenging to study while working 90 to 100 hours a week. Only 1 weeekend off each month to organise my life. So thankful my husband was very supportive through those hard years. The exams were like 4 hours per paper. It was also held at very odd hours as I am in Asia and we had to follow the UK time when the exam was to start. To pass any paper exams you have to have answered enough questions as practise. I failed some of the papers a couple of times and had to redo. My magic number was 6000. Do 6000 relevant practise questions before attempting any written exams. If you habe done so and 'pass' on your own practise. It is almost a guarantee that you will pass the real one.

Not necessarily. California’s passage rate is relatively low because Cal allows test takers who didn’t graduate from an ABA accredited law school. So the scores breakdown is a bit wonky in California. However it is a three day exam, which might be rough. That said, a significant number of test takers from NY/NJ end up taking both exams which requires three straight days of testing.

Okay, the job market for attorneys at this point was pretty rough, which is why you have a lot of people saying that they didn't have a job. I remember I was a legal assistant at a small law firm that was hiring employees for 45k a year, which was ridiculous. Attorneys were accepting any position they could given that the job market was so bad. Things improved, however. I am sure they are doing good now.

Nah! Not me. I got to the bar at five o'clock. It was somewhere. Ordered a drink 🍸 for everyone and we all passed out after happy hour! We even got tested with some breathalyzer! I didn't pass but I will try the bar again though! 😅😅 Who's watching with me in 2024? Do you have bar experience like this video? Or your local bar 🍸 experience like me?

@JRHSteeno7 жыл бұрын
He’s referring to the 1930's which was when Hitler and the Nazi parties power was on the rise. And the Olympics refers to the fact that Germany held the Olympics in that time, there is video footage of it as well. It’s the first televised event that was broadcast into space, used to demonstrate Germany’s technological superiority at the time.

I'm surprised how many people said they didn't have a job. I wonder if it's just because things were different 11 years ago or if it's still like that and depends on what school you go to? Everyone I know in my 3L class either has a job, a clerkship or a one-year pro bono scholars thing lined up. I'd be terrified if I was heading into the bar exam without already having a job waiting for me!

I wouldn't recommend it. Law is a highly saturated field and extremely hard to find a job in unless you attend a top-notch school and have good connections. The medical profession needs more people than ever right now. Consider becoming a nurse!

Hopefully you’re taking a bar review class. It really helped me, as it forced me to wake up early and start watching the lectures and end the day in the late afternoon. The class also tells you what to study, which seems simple enough, but you don’t want to waste time figuring out what you should be reviewing everyday. Just remember to sleep early every night and wake up early. Then it won’t be a problem to do so on test day.
