i use paulas choice BHA chemical exfoliant a few times a week. im guessing that as long as i dont use this on the same day as this product its okay?

I think they recommend using acids days you’re not using retinol.

What product are you referring to? If it’s just a cleanser that contains salicylic acid, it doesn’t stay on your skin for long as you wash the product off. This is generally fine unless you notice your skin is starting to get an impaired barrier by using it daily alongside retinol, then I would switch to a different cleanser. You just want to avoid using a salicylic acid serum at the same time as retinol, instead you would use that on an alternative day x
