I think Orlando would benefit greatly from making the city and neighborhoods more walkable. We have to accept traffic as a by product of population increase and the popularity of the city so we shouldn’t expect the traffic to get better but we could definitely benefit from a light rail of some sort .

I would agree but the two main problems with trying to make Orlando more walkable is that there is not many neighborhoods worth walking to and that the neighborhoods that are worth walking too are pretty much spread across the city where you would need a car. It sucks that the SunRail is built like a commuter rail. I wish they can have something a little smaller and flexible where it can take you to each section of the city without much driving around or expensive rideshare to get to the stations.

Honestly good sir, Downtown Orlando is declining again and the housing market is only for the wealthy and not middle class locals. Statistics say young people are moving out of state. Orlando went from a middle class town with rural areas to a place with bad traffic, high crime and wealthy people. Orlando was rated as the most overrated international destinations for a reason. How many people in the Orlando area are Florida Natives? They’re being priced out for wealthier transplants. It’s not to criticize your videos at all good sir I’m just talking about reality. Orlando isn’t what it used to be and that’s the reality.

We need rail ASAP. Also, to attract and retain talent, the area employers also need to be on board. Pay in our city is historically low, and that's a tough one. Companies desire and expect top talent with vast levels of experience, but do not want to pay the types of salaries those levels of skill require.

Things Orlando can do to improve: 1. More transportation options. We need an all of the above approach like autonomous buses, ebikes/scooters, trolleys, light rail, and above ground metro rail. The more people off the road, the better the traffic, which makes it better for the locals. I still have hope for the air taxis. 2. Fix the local parks. Many are dirty, full of bugs and have little to no amenities like exercise trails. They just need to be cleaned up and maintained regularly. 3. Fix walkability. There needs to be more sidewalks, bike lanes, signalization, and streetlights so that walking and biking are safer. 4. MCO needs direct flights to East Asia (China/Japan/S. Korea/Vietnam). The only way we can compete with the larger cities is if we also have a way to travel to East Asia without needing connecting flights. 5. High rise condos and apartments. We are running out of ground so we need to go vertical. People need a place to stay and having a house is not always an option. Additionally, we should convert parking lots to parking garages and more mixed use buildings. 6. We need more locations that are safe and people can hang out and enjoy a common interest like hobby shops, day clubs, and lounges.

It’s not impossible to go out with that kind of weather, if anything it’s perfect for tourism with proper infrastructure. You’re not gonna be in the sun during a 95 degree kinda day, if you’re at a commercial area where restaurants, lounges and other areas are, there should be shade and trees, compounded with enough sidewalk space and well lit at night as well. Orlando is missing all of those

As for someone who just moved here from Chicago and lived in the city for 11 years and grew up and lived in all over Chicagoland. I've been able to really see what Orlando is missing. I travel through this city every day I live here now and I feel like the infrastructure really needs to be fixed the amount of toll ways is just obnoxious even Chicago does not have that many toll roads. Also getting around is a pain here you miss a stop you are traveling 4 miles up to another exit I get that they are focused on connecting bigger busier roads but we need more options here. I agree that we need to be better on public transportation and it needs to spread throughout the city like sure you can't put underground but you can put above ground train system we for sure have the space here. Connect to Disney I know i know it's another breed but it gets thighs moving faster. Orlando needs to embrace the theme parks and have that whole area as part of Orlandoland. Better music venues small and bigger ones. need more parks Chicago is like parks everywhere and Orlando can embrace that. Take a page from Chicago more street festivals that's a huge deal in Chicago and we can do that here too. With music and local vendors that really gets people out and doing more non Disney stuff. I feel like I live in Conway and it's not built up at all over here even tho I'm so close to downtown but yet winter park is built up and that's farther away. More trails and sports activities areas. I agree more lounges would help too.

As someone who has lived in Orlando almost all his life I'm sad what the city is becoming. I always thought that Orlando would become a sort of Portland of the east where there would be a lot of individuality, expressionism, local art, as well as atypical lifestyle while at the same time a growing tech sector bring the needed infrastructure that was surely needed 20+ years ago. Unfortunately our city officials have so little vision that the city simply grew but we still have the same buses and routes from lynx buses it hasn't changed. I think the Public work that officials are doing are just to bring more business, more revenue, but at the end of the day I don't see more Public spaces like parks, I think we could have built a Public tram system or a light rail that doesn't only serve orlando but also the Greater Orlando area like the Sun rail, who rides that? and that's because there is no infrastructure to support it.

The traffic is the worst thing about Orlando hands down. They really need to dive deep and get that figured out. Not sure if it is just me. I don’t let my child walk to school for the stats in America on the amount of missing children and Pedos in America. My children make my world awesome and finding ways that school is a thing that doesn’t makes me worry when they walk or come home. The food around Orlando is great. The amount of things to do around Orlando is great. I only have those two issues with Orlando and what they talked about for the future. Why build more homes to create more traffic? Work on the roads and some jobs need more work from home. That would help with less traffic at certain times
@kenpozek
@kenpozek Ай бұрын
Agree with the traffic comment for sure. They’re building more homes because if they don’t affordability will be even worse. They “can’t” build roads before houses because the road money comes from impact fees and taxes from the new houses. So roads are always added or fixed years after houses are developed. Which sucks.

Orlando desperately needs to take cues from how other cities do transit projects like Boston's green line. Boston actually did a really good job in the B branch of the green line where it's a streetcar in the median, but has some space to make small parking areas to the side of it with trees making the overall area just feel more lively. A big thing that MUST be done is how do we look at building suburban developments. While making townhomes and more density is great, what's more valuable is having very small commercial areas inside the residential areas, so if I want to go to a bakery, I can just walk or bike easily without having to drive through winding roads to a "3rd place".

Will they do anything to raise the wages for teachers and other industries? just being able to "walk it" does not help if teachers or other industries cannot afford rent to walk to anywhere. Also I highly recommend more going on for the small business side, that the florida SBDC has a more active Orlando chapter so more people can network and learn how to start more small businesses. I believe small businesses can thrive very well and make florida's economy bloom in multiple ways but the Orlando chapter is pretty much inactive or not very active compared to the North Florida chapter. Can they get some funding and assistance? I know they have some joint venture with a college but it needs to be more open for others who are not in/able to go to college. The Northern florida chapter does not run that way and is more active for that reason and I think it is limiting the Orlando chapter for SBDC which Orlando desperately needs. Cause if the other industries are not going to be able to give better wages, better to let people make a way for themselves to get the wages to actually afford and stay in florida. Best way to do that is to become a small business that may eventually become a larger business and help employ more Floridians :) Circle of life babeeeee~

OTowns traffic will only get better until FDOT becomes less sadistic and realizes the green lights on JY and OBT need to be LONGER and better timed. Your telling me the traffic CONSTANLTLY MOVES on 436 and even 192 but we HAVE to be in a parking lot on OBT, JY and OSCEOLA PKWY?

DT needs to be overhauled badly. There's no reason to go down there. There's no shopping & all the great restaurants are North / NE of downtown. You can't even sit in peace near Lake Eola because you'll have people marching around the lake yelling out chants that support their political ideology. Doesn't make for a very pleasant experience. A more family friendly DT with expanded days/hours for Sunrail would be welcomed.

We need gyms. We need big gyms with inside pools and tracks to walk on and basketball courts. We need 24 hour gyms. We do not have a big gym at all in Horizon West. We do not have a big bowling alley so people can join leagues. We need more gyms and a variety of them. We need more inside pools.

Just finished watching your video- great info. I’m wondering with all the options for Orlando- especially downtown concerts, soccer, food - why is NO ONE talking about the train!!!???? I’d love to see a video on the Sunrail; why doesn’t it run on weekends? Why doesn’t it run till 2am? Why can’t I use it when I want to go see a concert and drink and not pay for an uber???? Sorry, it’s just absurd to me. I lived in Germany- small town- the train was used always to go to wine festivals, concerts in other towns, the airport ( I know Sunrail doesn’t go there…but should-). I bought a pass when I came back to WP 6 years ago. Due to work 5 days a week and wanting to stay out past 10 on a Friday night- I have yet to be able to use it. Disappointing to say the least. Ok now that that’s off my chest- could you do a video in the Bright line , what its future is, connection from train station to downtown Sanford, Deland, the minor glitches in the system. I’d be really interested to learn. *You interviewed me last year on the Avenue, I’ve lived here all my life- left for a minute but came back - we all still live here. It’s a wonderful place. Thanks for your content-it’s great information. Tracey

TRANSPORTATION... I4 Ultimate did make an impact but it's too little too late and not enough. Transportation has to be faster, the commute kills desire. Parking downtown, need more free public parking that is close and safe. There is a lot of variety downtown and surrounding areas, I do not feel that is weak in any regard. Travel time and parking are key.

At least Orlando has more space to develop than St. Petersburg, which has no undeveloped land available. Lately, developers from Miami and NYC are uncontrollably building up many high rises in downtown St. Petersburg without any thoughts of public transportation systems. St. Petersburg is becoming the next Miami.

Orlando has gone downhill. Was much better when we had shops at church stresst station and restaurants. You can actually bring a family. Plus, they still had clubs. It's not safe downtown. I'm not sure how they'll build something under I4 when they can't fix the crime. It's going to spread police thin to cover the area. Bad idea.

In 2014 for the most part I felt pretty safe going downtown, but now I barely can stand to go to my favorite pizza place anymore Gitto's Pizza because of how unsafe downtown is, I wouldn't even go to an Orlando Magic game anymore, not just because of the prices, but because you try to go back to the bus station, and two of the under passes near the station are filled with more homeless people, I wish they built some small like room for them to sleep in, maybe a place to lay their head and a bathroom with a sink. I've been homeless in Orlando and I find about 70-80 percent of the homeless people disgusting, don't even get me started on how unaffordable apartments are, not saying all apartments should be $500-$700 starting, the other sad thing is as someone who was homeless, it was cheaper to go homeless, but only works if you have money, so you don't have to eat the uneditable expired shelter food. When I was homeless I wouldn't sleep downtown for fear of getting stabbed , don't even get me started on the drivers in Orlando, It reminds me of St. Louis Missouri.
