That rear main seal leak is really common over 100,000 miles in most vehicles, or 50,000 miles if you own a Dodge/Chrysler. I've known guys that had cars that leaked oil so bad from the main seal that you thought their driveway was paved with asphalt but it was just a massive oil slick on concrete. They just added oil and kept driving them for years.

Toyota is the same as other manufacturers. Some are good and last awhile, some don't. My 2 longest lasting vehicles were a 2000 Chevy Lumina 3.1 that I drove for near 15 years with very little and non major repairs needed, and my current 1991 Chevy Silverado with no repairs needed. That is not because I like one manufacturer over another. The last vehicle bought was made by Ford. The idea that Toyota is Superior over other manufacturers is just opinion. Reality says otherwise.

My 2003 Odyssey has seepage, looks like engine oil from the valve cover. And there's a little tranny fluid seepage too, I found red fluid on the undercarriage. But I won't be fixing it or using dye, I'm too afraid to find out what it is and where it's coming from 🙈. It's not dripping on the ground and at 174k miles I just need it to last until next year so I can buy something new or newer, I'll have a bigger down payment, my credit will be better and hopefully the car market will come back down to Earth.

I did not even finish it and I knew what it was. I love the 3rd Gen 4runner. Mine has the same leak. I believe it is the rear main seal. Slow leak

The rear main seal on those 3rd gen 4Runner are easy to fix, you just have to drop the transmission. My buddy of my did it on he's taco they are basically the same frame structure, he did it in 4 hour's.

Does that polymer in the oil mess with the oil viscosity and if yes should you use heavier oil with it?
@wlt16
@wlt16 2 жыл бұрын
the 1 bad thing about AT205 is that it thins your oil out. made my oil pressure light come on for the oil being thin. but to over come it put in a slightly higher viscosity oil and all will be fine.

How ironic, I just picked up a 94 4runner with rod knock. Added some oil, seafoam to the oil, and the knocking has toned down. I'll be fixing the knock before it gets too bad but it's hilarious that you say that when some seafoam helped it.

Earlier this year I got a beater 2001 pathfinder for $200, and the rear main leaks like a siv lol. Threw some AT205 reseal in it and has slowed the leak down some!

I don't think the AT-205 is going to help with a rear main seal leak. I don't think that seal is made of rubber. It will probably help with all other kinds of rubber seals in the engine though
