Here's why Boeing 787 is in BIG TROUBLE with the Rolls Royce engine!
It is hard to imagine that Rolls-Royce engines, a symbol of luxury and high performance, are becoming a "double-edged sword" for airlines. The problem related to the Trent 1000 engine on Boeing 7 8 7 aircraft is becoming increasingly serious, directly affecting the operations of many airlines, typically British Airways. This incident not only causes inconvenience to passengers but also raises big questions about the quality and reliability of aviation equipment. What is happening behind the consecutive flight delays and cancellations? So, what is the root cause of this problem and is there any effective solution to fix it? Let's find out!

British Airways has announced that it will suspend its long-haul service from London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi from 30 March to 25 October 20 25. This is a notable move, as the airline only resumed the route in April this year, after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main reason for the suspension is ongoing reliability issues with the Rolls-Royce Trent engines that power its Boeing 7 8 7 Dreamliner fleet.
British Airways currently operates a daily service to Abu Dhabi. However, the suspension is a stark contrast to its Dubai operations, where it has maintained up to three daily flights using wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A3 80. British Airways has also posted details of the route suspension on a page titled “AUH Summer 20 25 Route Suspension - 17 Dec 20 24.”

Passengers booked during the affected period will be assisted in rebooking onto other British Airways flights to Dubai, UAE. In addition, the airline is also offering passengers the opportunity to transfer to partner flights such as Etihad Airways or Qatar Airways, provided that the travel date is within 14 days of the original itinerary.
Impacts
Initially, British Airways attempted to maintain routes by deploying Boeing Triple 7 as replacements. However, the need for intensive maintenance on its 7 8 7 Dreamliner fleet has disrupted its network.
Beyond Abu Dhabi, British Airways has also faced other challenges in the Middle East. In November, the airline suspended two key routes from London Heathrow to Bahrain and Kuwait, citing technical issues related to the Dreamliner. Following public pressure, the airline later decided to partially restore service to Bahrain, reducing frequency to three flights per week in the summer of 20 25. British Airways’ network restructuring is not limited to the Middle East, but extends to other regions. In March 20 25, the airline will cease operations to Dallas Fort Worth, with its transatlantic joint venture partner American Airlines taking over this capacity.
