Honestly I just look at session as real life skating almost. Like you say, it's all timing and weight distribution, it takes hours of practice. You need your line or trick planned, you need to know what you wanna do or it rarely works out, it's not skate 3 or XL, the game will not forgive you for late popping or bad technique. I dont think you guys or the devs understand how much freedom real life has in attempting tricks. Ive done nollie gazelle heels with no tail or nose. I can ollie into a 5050 either straight on or even from a 70 degree angle or parallel but 5 feet out from the ledge. This game is not even close to a sim in that regard.

Omg this is unbelievable, when you broke down the 5050 at 2:00 ish minute mark really helped me understand why haha. As a skateboarder from NYC, seeing all my local spots like the Veterans Plaza, LES, Brooklyn Banks, etc means so much. Keep up the videos JL!

it does mean a lot. and I'm not even from the east coast but seeing the landmarks and getting to skate them is pretty awesome. This game simply being on the east coast gives it that much more life. XL was alright but the school didn't feel anything like a school. Just a structure that happen to look like a school but didn't feel like it in Session you can actually feel the environment. 'is' an environment and so on. I didn't feel any life in XL which is what made me venture onto Session and I don't regret it! 😎

i think coming from skater xl was another one of garrett's problems. that's what i did and there was a lot of muscle memory to subtly rebuild since the games are so similar in their control schemes, but different in how they handle (especially with stuff like messing up the timing of the pop because of the advanced inputs in session vs real time in skater xl). it's hard to fully get into the mindset of learning a new thing from the ground up when it's so similar to an existing piece of skill/knowledge you have

I wish there was a more user friendly tutorial. There are bugs and the game difficulty level makes it hard to distinguish which is which. Definitely has a learning curve.

I put the legacy controls on because I found it well too confusing at first. But using the intended controls using both sticks is so much better. I'm only 10 hours in but already landing some great stuff. Actually aiming to do the tricks intended and grinds too rather than just flicking the sticks and seeing what lands is much more enjoyable. Just finished the story missions. Looking forward to the game progressing.

Idk how but I'm fine with hard tricks (I can ghetto bird consistently), but when it comes to doing kickflips or heelflips, I struggle. mainly due to timing the catch. Session is still fantastic though. I've been on this train since day one of the kickstarter. I never want to get off.

@Steven Alvarez what I did was Google the name of the challenge I was stuck on followed by 'session skate sim' and videos and reddit links appeared. I did this like a hundred times lol but have completed all of the challenges now. It gets way easier just a tough game to learn

The best way to explain it overall is to say treat it the way you would in real life. Session's full name is Session Skate Sim. It's meant to simulate actual skateboarding.

Trick relative input is more like Stick Relative input. To pop out, you flick in the exact opposite direction as the setup foot. So if front back foot is diagonally Up left for a crook, you’ll flick your back foot Diagonally Down right to Nollie out. For double grinds, if your back foot is setup Straight down after releasing and reinputting, you’ll flick front foot straight up.

180 nose grind is baffling me (v1.0) also I can’t do the meet up switch stance mission even when I cheat and say I am the opposite stance in the apartment options. It’s just so difficult in that small area.

I love this game! Within my first two days of playing in October 2022, I had the hang of the controls, definitely not going to be able play the skate games anymore, hopefully Full circle takes hint from Session for the control scheme, I had SXL and played it until Session released on PS4, now Skater XL feels too clunky to me

I have not done a dedicated tutorial on it. you just flip the board and catch with back foot stick Down + Front foot stick Up when the board is sideways. To get out of primo, release one of the sticks then flick that same stick to the left or right (eg. Release front foot stick, flick front foot left or right). You can also release both sticks while in primo, scoop back or front foot then flick front or back foot to the side (as if you wanted to Varial flip or 360 flip out)

For the Philly jam, keep doing Ollie’s over and over for a whole round. You should get 9.6. I might as well tell you the strat to beat the other 2 Jams: Banks Stair Jam, since it’s 1 single best trick that counts, you just do a Switch 360 Flip over the stairs (or even on flat). EMB jam, keep doing Fakie Full Cab over and over for a whole round.

Every time I try to do a nollie trick, the game wants to do a nose Manuel. My character always does a nose Manuel to nollie studder. This doesn’t happen when I skate fakie. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug in the game?

I think it’s your controller actually. Try recalibrating it ( changing the deadzones) or try using another controller. I have that issue with one of my PS4 controllers.. the original one that came with the system gives me that issue but the extra one I bought doesn’t.

All I want is to see my favorite creators playing my favorite game. People can play whatever they want, but content creators shouldn’t be advertising a game w/ such absent developers. Imo I mean, SXL is twice as expensive and half as complete. Creators are going to spend every video telling the viewers that Easy Day doesn’t care and won’t respond or update their community... but then they just keep playing the game? Idk.. I know it’s more complicated than just switching games, but in my mind at this point, no one should be supporting SXL when session is CHEAPER, has better studio communication, is more complete, and isn’t built off of a MOBILE GAME... Edit: all this said I love anyone making content for others to enjoy, I watch Garrett’s new video regardless of the game.

i played session for a while like 3 months. but the game was just WAYYY to annoying to play my trucks would be coming through the board if i missed a stair i would just stand. the game just felt way to clunky and heavy. i got SKATER XL 2 days ago and my goodness its like the best skate game ive played its just so nice even vanilla its amazing. If session gets some more work im sure itll be way better later but for now im with SKATER XL

@@JLNightmare I've completed almost every historical challenges on Xbox one but struggling with some lines. Some shit seems broken even when you do it cold nipples perfect. I have my own compilation videos of skate 3, skater XL, and now that I've to actually taken the time to jump into session I love it. I am just a stickler for finishing the historical challenges. But I'm going to do my first comp this week and I might start my own channel. All of you guys are great, but creativity is key in skateboarding, tricks from video games have been watched and done in real life. Gamers and skaters still have the ability to push the boundaries of what can be done on 4 urethane wheels baby. I love everything about session and skater XL is decent too. I'm not really looking for skate 4 at this point. Big companies should be backing both of these games. Love your channel, helped me get half my historical challenges and yes manuals work on Xbox you gotta double tap into manual, I know that's insane but it does work. Input input LoL. Thanks for replying. I'm doing an Xbox only historical challenge in slow motion for everyone on console. I'm guessing you're on PC. I just figured out the editor thanks to you. So thank you. Again love the channel and the content. One request though. Can you do a video scrolling down the list from top to bottom of the historical challenges showing everyone from Numero uno to the last challenge what's what so we can compare? I noticed on console lines are broken AF not manuals. I mean I went back and watched photosynthesis 30 times in .25 to look for hot spots with no help on the philly lines. Any suggestions? In the current version of Session there are a Ton of historical challenges that broke in the Feb update unfortunately. So having the complete list isn’t possible right now. The reason why I don’t scroll through the list of challenges is because the order is random and won’t always be the same for everyone (example: when they add new challenges to the list, they end up at the bottom if you had a completed list before the update.. but if you have a fresh file, those new ones are in a different order) so it would be confusing to show my list cause it might be different from someone else’s. Hopefully the challenges get organized by the devs for 1.0 so it’s easier to keep track. About the manual challenges, there used to be a work around to get them to register, but that work around changed in the update. I just tested your way and I got one to work :) it’s somewhat like the old workaround but seem like this one you don’t need to touch all 4 wheels down before popping out like the other way. The old way was to Ollie up or flip, land all 4 wheels, then manual while on the pad, then touch down again before doing a flip out. It can still work in this version but it’s harder to register than it used to be. Glad you’re enjoying the content :) good luck on your channel dude :)

When I produce my historical challenges for Xbox I can't show my controller but I will commentate on how many tries and what I changed to figure it out. Forever on the session grind at this point. No no I understand how you’re doing it, I even got 1 doing it that way just now. What I’m saying is, there are a lot of challenges that will not work no matter what you do because they are broken after the Feb update (I even confirmed this with the devs) so getting all the challenges complete before v1.0 isn’t possible in v0.0.0.72 unfortunately. I spent weeks troubleshooting the challenges and talking with the devs about them. Just don’t want you to waste so much time on challenges that won’t work.

The reason hes having trouble hitting 50-50s isnt because hes not getting his trucks on the ledge its because he isnt holing front foot forward back foot backwards which is literally what allows you ti 50-50. He literally says "do i just ollie on and land on it or what? He clearly doesn't know to do that

nah, its good to at least have the option.. originally they said they would never have them in but they decided to add it to help those that are coming from SKATE and want to ease into the game. even if people decide they dont want the full Session experience, they can still play how they are used to
