I know that a lot of people are upset that Viv replaced the original cast from the pilot, but after seeing this video and showing how much Hazbin leans into theatre it does make a little more sense on why

She also didnt have a choice. Amazon and A24 have contracts with the Screen Writers Guild, and all actors have to be members, which the pilot cast wasnt

@@Zistheone2I’m not sure what they said, I don’t really follow actors like that, but I do have some knowledge about the Screen Actor’s Guild, and because its a union they tend to be very particular with company contracts. From what I understand, two of the actors WERE in the guild and still didnt reprise their roles, but from what I understand, Micheal’s tweet was meaning those two actors in specific’s roles weren’t reprised for other reasons, not all of the replacements as a whole. I really doubt any of it came from malice or superiority or whatever like it seems a lot of people seem to think

I had a hard time Googling who wrote the music, because Google kept directing me to the old pilot episode and it wasn't clear at all. This video is perfect, and I really appreciate all the effort you put into it. Thanks!!!

I live under a rock, so I didn't know much about Hazbin before I saw the trailer. I was like "The art style looks cool and it a MUSICAL! Sign me up!" As I was watching the season it was equivalent to all the Marvels fans freaking out at all the different heroes in Average Endgame. The world of theatre, and many people attached, I have the highest respect for. I really want to do my best to share that with the people of the internet. (I'm sorry for going off on a tangent) I really hope that I can educate and maybe encourage people to listen to more soundtracks. Because all these people attached to this project are incredibly talented =)

Their performances kept me so captivated through this show and definitely allows me to overlook the pacing issues (which I'll blame A24 and Amazon for.) I love "You Didn't Know" so much just because of how much it plays with everyone's dynamic. Sure, you've got fun songs from other media like "You're Welcome" from "Moana", or strong swiftly popular songs like "Let it Go" from "Frozen", but these songs are only used to emphasize a single characters narrative or character. "You Didn't Know" is a narrative argument playing out, different voices taking on different tunes to not only emphasize their character, but purposefully clash against another as they try to get their point across. Then there's the "Hell if forever" reprise in the middle of the song getting flipped and turned around in a second reprise verse, much like Jafar's reprise of "Prince Ali". Taking a point and throwing it right back like that just feels so powerful. (Note I don't know music theory, only been in choir during highschool years ago, so my guessing of what the keys and changes are might be wrong. Or totally wrong, but I try) It's not just the genre's changing, it's keys changing. Charlie, Emily, and Sera- they all sing in E major, Charlie's and Emily's note rising high in question, while Sera with a slight sad, drop in reply. The whole key is light but the questioning notions give it a regretful feel. Then it shifts into a E minor when Lute interrupts. Minor keys are usually reserved for antagonists, after all, so of course it cuts in so boldly. Then it shifts back to the regrettable and questioning E major as Emily is in disbelief when learning about the extermination. Then it gets even crazier as Sera gets sharp when she sings "Do what was required", a half step or semitone in F#. It makes her sound a bit sinister. Then Emily finishes that key change with another half step and booming semi tone above G, or simply G# before making another change to a much stronger F major. Not only is this displayed audibly, but visually too, as she literally flies above Sera. (In contrast to her flying down at the beginning of the song.) Then it changes AGAIN in "Heed the morals you're purveying" flowing into the "Hell is forever" in reprise with another major key, totally slapping Lute and Adam's minor key in the face in challenge against them and Sera. Sketchy Key analysis aside, this song is very dynamic in it's music which I don't see much of in the other Hazbin songs. Or at least, not in the same sense as "You didn't Know". I'd really love to see a proper analysis done of this song, and not go off my messy guesswork.

I am a bit late to this, I watched the amazon series before I knew there was a pilot. The actors in the pilot are very good, but the new ones are just phenomenal. So kudos to all of them, but at the same time I am thankful for the change. I might be biased though, since I watched them in the opposite direction than anyone else. For the favorite song, I might be alone but since I always have been a sucker for "i want" songs, of course it is "happy day in hell". The delusional optimistic energy of the song is the best, it lifts my spirit every time. I could hear Erika/Charlie on loop. I hope she gets more songs in season 2.

Yeah I mean Vivienne Medrano, the series' creator is clearly a HUGE Broadway geek! Like they get it, and she has been super fortunate to mmake friends with some great people in both the animation and broadway business! She has been developing all of this for ages so its probably not a surprise to think that Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg also got in and just got her vision. The whole trio has also at the same time been working on another show, Helluva Boss, which is basically a spinoff of Hazbin Hotel right here on KZbin, free to watch! Same world, lots of songs too (though generally fewer than Hazbin, even though one episode had 4 different songs), just some very different characters. And it too has some great songs and some really great broadway actors! Bryce Pinkham plays one of the most important characters Stolas, who has many of the most beautiful songs in it! Alex Brightman is also onboard in the role of Fizzarolli, James Monroe Igleheart also plays double with 2 different characters, Asmodeus and Vortex! And hey, you said you wanted Erika to invite some Mean girls friends guess what? Barrett Wilbert Reed is already on Helluva Boss as the side character "Octavia", Stolas' daughter! They even got Jefferson Friedman onboard in one episode! Harvey Guillén joining too in an upcoming episode! Norman Reedus even had a role in one episode, with his first ever singing role! They even got KE$HA in a role with an original song by her! And yet this big cast is also alongside some goopers of Cartoon stars and internet funny people, like Brandon Rogers as the lead Blitz, Richard Horwitz, famous for roles like Invader Zim and Billy from Billy & Mandy as Moxxie, Michael Cusack, Georgina Leahy, Cristina Vee, Faye Mata, and many others. TLDR: Its not as musical heavy but if you love Hazbin Hotel, I highly rreccomend Helluva Boss too. There's even some occassional cross references to eachother in each show.

"You didn't know" is a fantastic song and for me personally, it's the best song of the show. My favourite to sing along to is "Loser Baby", though, because the lyrics just make me smile and it's an instant dopamine rush whenever I hear it. "Hell is forever" comes a close second. I sound awful while singing it but damn does it give me joy. "More than anything" and "Poison" are my faves to just listen to (whenever I can bring myself to shut up). "Stayed Gone" and "Hell's greatest dad" are hilarious and I'll never get tired of them. "Respectless" is my favourite challenge, cause it took me forever to get the rap parts right and I still only manage to do it 8 out of 10 times without fumbling some lines. Each and every song in this show holds a special place in my heart for different reasons, so it's impossible to pick my favourite. Can't wait for season 2!

Sam Haft was born for this. His music has always been about breaking down music and mixing it with new flavors making it catchy AF. Also the music is rarely fully flushed out for storyboards and animation. Music is almost always done last when animated. Plus they had 2 years before animation even got started.
@CinemaOverAnalyzed11 ай бұрын
I agree with you both Sam and Andrew have a lot of talent. With your other point, it kind of depends on what you mean by music. If you talking about the score, most of the time that is down at the end of a film, to emotionally sum it up. When it comes to music numbers, the songs need to be done first. So they can storyboard accordingly. At least that's what knowledge I have from Disney during the Renaissance period.

"Respectless" is so good. "Poison" is an awesome pop song that I immediately fell in love with. It's sad if you really pay attention to the lyrics. Which, if you heard without the visuals, you probably need to listen to a few times to really get. With the visuals from the episode, it's absolutely heartbreaking. "Loser, Baby" is a fantastic way to real you back in after the trainwreck of what you just witnessed earlier in the episode. "Stayed Gone" is so fun. Especially since we get to see Alastor showing how terrifying he actually is. "Hell's Greatest Dad" is such a fun power struggle between Lucifer and Alastor. And when Mimzy just bursts in at the end, I crack up every time. I could keep going, but I think you get it. I'm in love with this soundtrack.

Similarly, thinking of Reneé got me wondering about Coco Jones, who is also such a star and I could see being a new character in season 2 (/3 if that happens hopefully 😊) for an episode or more. 😊 I love the existing Hazbin cast so much, perfect casting and the talent and love they have brought to the show is breathtaking to see. *You didn't Know* is probably my favorite song in the show for a lot of different reasons. Each performer is hitting it out of the park, the song is ridiculously catchy, it drives the story forward hard and fast, and the uno reverse reprise of *Hell is Forever* just kicks all the ass. This show isn't perfect, but for all the ways the storytelling could be seen as shoddy by some, the very nature of it being a musical bridges that gap and then some when the songs are this good at pushing the story and giving us insight into the cast. I can not wait to see what comes next. Season 1 was better than I was expecting, and while I'm not sure they'll be able to top it, I'm excited to see Viv and the many wonderful people that have come together to make this thing give it their best shot.

I’ve loved HH ever since I saw the pilot 4 years ago. And it’s kind of neat they have Broadway stars in the show since seeing a musical in NYC is expensive. And if I could pick of who would be in Season 2, I think it would be Lin-Manuel Miranda. That man is a genius.

I love this cast! I know people are disappointed about the pilot cast being replaced, but when you make a pilot it's not a guarantee you'll be in the final show, and with the bigger budget they were truly able to find the absolute best people for the job. musical projects have a bad habit of casting pop singers or celebrities who can't sing, and I'm just so glad to have a musical animated show that understands the true power of musical theater
@CinemaOverAnalyzed11 ай бұрын
I didn't mention it in the video, but the casting team and voice director did an amazing job as well! I feel that when animation and musical theater join forces, it's a recipe for success. It might not happen often, but when it does, I'm always impressed!

I'm also a big fan of Hazbin Hotel and I recently got into it and I LOVE it I like the songs too and I like You Didn't Know Hell Is Forever More Than Anything More Than Anything Reprise The Show Must Go On I can't wait to see Hazbin Hotel Season 2 and see more songs to it and episodes and especially more Charlie Vaggie Angel Dust and the gang and Lucifer I hope Charlie's mother Lilith won't be an outright villain we don't need a female version of Crimson Adam or another Stella. Lucifer and Lilith deeply love each other and their daughter Charlie. I bet it'll have a darker and edgier turn too where Charlie is still feeling guilty over everything that happened and ends up having nightmares and PTSD from everything that happened back in Season 1 and she starts having terrifying Nightmarish Hallucinations of Adam who accuses her of being just as bad as he is and that she's just like him. Lute might even create Rogue Exterminator Exorcist Angels and Exterminations who don't follow Sera's orders out of revenge on Charlie so she can kill Charlie.

I love, love, loved Hazbin Hotel. It honestly annoys me how quick people are to jump onto the plot or pacing (8 episodes were not their decision people). It was fun. I was laughing and having a great time most of the way through and I think that's all that should matter in the end.

I'm not through the video yet so it might be addressed- but Musical People: When Charlie sings "Convinced heaven to work together" in the finale song (specifically: To work together) IS IT THE SAME as Angel's "Cause I know you're poison" (Specifically "You're poison") or at least similar enough that it's probably some form of subtle foreshadowing?
@CinemaOverAnalyzed11 ай бұрын
Interesting question! While I can hear what you're talking about in each song, unfortunately, I'm not well-versed in music theory, so I can't confirm or deny if they're in a similar key. What I do know is that most finale songs like to reference past songs, like how they use similar lyrics to "Happy Day in Hell." The finale in the musical is used to summarize the themes of the story, so the audience can understand the bigger message. This means it's probably more of a callback than a sense of foreshadowing. However, those themes presented in "Poison" could still come back and play a role in season 2. Again, take my answer with a grain of salt because I'm no music theorist...haha!
@seaborgium91911 ай бұрын
@@CinemaOverAnalyzed my big theory is that it might be really that working together with heaven will be the problem (Considering Charlie was told by all sides that it's a bad idea, and Sir Pentious went to heaven when he was not working together with heaven. She gained more ground *NOT* working with Heaven, y'know?) - Charlie will have to stop pursuing that or she will be in life threatening danger.

That was Gavin Lee. He also played Bert in the Mary Poppins Musical. So the costume is quite interesting. Squidward has 4 legs, so the front two are Gavin's real legs. The back 2 are attached at the heel, so he can freely tap dance. I'm sure it was a little awkward to maneuver in...haha! But Gavin handles it like a champion!

@cullenlatham23668 ай бұрын
well, you prime us to say "more than anything" as a favorite, but in my books, the songs mostly fit into one of 3 tiers: On repeat, like it, and not a fan. not a fan is very limited, mostly to the dramatic irony of a disney princess singing in hell (happy day in hell 1) and transitory pieces that dont do much for the plot (it starts with sorry), but literally everything else fits either into like or on repeat. Just to list a few at the top; more than anything, poison, loser baby, you didnt know, respectless, stayed gone...
@js6661311 ай бұрын
My favourites were "Hell's Greatest Dad" (sans Mimzy), "Poison", "Loser, Baby", "More Than Anything" (the first version), "Stayed Gone", Hell is Forever", "Respectless" and "The Show Must Go On" (Yes, I refuse to just call it by the real name, because that one's lame.), but I also liked "Whatever It Takes", "Ready for This" and "You Didn't Know". I disagree. Theatre people are the best when it comes to sung performances, because they sing and act, and can't just do one or the other. But with this they often sacrifice their voice acting abilities that are involved in the parts that are /just/ spoken. For that very reason, I still prefer the voice actors from pilot for the spoken parts, and wish they would've stayed on, with the Broadway actors taking over the singing roles, but unfortunately, I guess the higher ups were too stingy for that. See, voice actors, and especially indie voice actors know how to act a character that they can't fully physically become. They are used to expressing more than normal actors do, or potentially even can, and they are used to very cartoonish, over the top displays that are befitting of cartoonishly designed characters that make the most of being 2D. If you're doing a 2D animated project, THEY are the best pick because THEY know what to do in that specific scenario, when it comes to the spoken roles. BUT they're not necessarily trained singers - self-trained or otherwise -, which I guess works against them whenever they try to become anything but an indie actor, especially if the typical pathway to get to Broadway just doesn't work for them. While I loved the sung performances by the VAs, and they've certainly made great songs... they don't quite capture the liveliness of the original Alastor, and also, they cowered out of using as much static for Alastor which doesn't make sense because he was perfectly understandable to me in the pilot - and English isn't my first language; not to mention that I often struggled with accents, but Alastor wasn't a problem for me... Zestial is honestly harder to understand -, so him constantly dropping the static and speaking more "normally" is weird considering he's the type to conceal stuff a lot. Weird artistic choice. Can't say the justifications actually make sense.
