Bro, as a Katana enthusiast I would expect you to know that these are not meant to be "ready for action". These are meant to store the Katana blade for long periods of time.... In its current configuration this blade is incomplete... You need a proper Handle ito wrap, Tsuba, etc...

youre actually wrong, shirasaya were was a hidden blade so that you can confuse others, and also ninja used to use this so that it doesnt make you suspicious

Considering many ronin loved using Shirasaya, I'd say that it's far fetch to say these aren't battle ready.

@@CarolusR3x my dude, ronin are just ex samurai who are broke and have no place to go. They're filthy wanderer and usually end up being bandits or bodyguards because they have no money. Why tf would they even need store their sword inside a shirasaya if they travel around all the time. It's only function is to store a blade that you don't use inside a warehouse of some sort, not a battle ready weapon

From what I have learned, that setup is to just store the blade when it is not being used; not meant for practice or battle. Looks nice though.

I think it could be used for concealment as a cain, but you would have to cap it at the bottom and you could put some type of wrapping as reference point to suba, it's location, it's not a battle sword,

My man, listen here... 90% of your problems can be fixed by working out your arms/grip and hands strength the other 7% is using proper hands placement/grip and the last 3% by not relaying on the Tsuba.

The shinwa is a great blade for the money you spend. That particular sword isn't made designed for you to train your draw. These were made to be given as gifts or ceremonies. Real swords are thousands of dollars.

I have the onikiri one. Same color but the black ring wrapping around the handle is the same color as the handle. There was only one time that the blade slipped partly out of my hand and it was when I drew it improperly. I've trained for years with swords and even when I drew it wrongly and it slipped out of my hands, I wasn't cut, because my training caused my hand to go limp when I lost control of the blade. A real sword like this one, takes proper handling. There are katana that are made balanced, and those that are made top heavy so that it causes the sword to push through a target better, and then there are katana that are more balanced. It's not the problem with the sword itself, but rather, the purpose of the blade being designed more for draw cutting. You just have to build up your arms a little.

Shirasaya is the wood storage scabbard/handle....NOT the sword. Yes i know thats what they call it but still. Many swords were taken during ww2 and replaced by wood sword blades...so their owners could at elast keep the saya/fittings and their ancestors legacy minus the steel, leading to demand for shairasayas exploding(and is why the old blades are generally sold in this configuration as the fittings are held with the family/gone) Thats what the shirasaya is meant for.

Yep yep it would it change my mind if it was balanced at least because when a sword is balanced you have more control over it. Thank you for watching! :-)

It’s a shirasaya they are built uniquely that way to differentiate them from the rest because it’s classed as a not for everyone type of sword 😅 mostly Royals or specific type of samurai’s used it 🙏🏽

Everyone who own a katana use a shirasaya but no one would stupid enough to use it for fighting unless in some rare situations where they don't have access to a sword with normal koshirae. The wood is only good at keeping moisture away, it's too weak to handle pressure from fighting
