Jackie Chan has sooo much RESPECT for Bruce Lee, his big brother, his role model that he'd never want to "replace him" as asked by the producers. They both knew they had different personalities and different fighting and acting styles worked best for them individually. You bet Bruce Lee would have been the proudest of Jackie's decision to stick to his own style in Fighting Arts entertainment.

While Lee's fighting style can be considered a style, he created it as a concept of flow and adaptability. Meaning everyone who uses Jeet Kune Do would fight differently depending on who they are, who the opponent is, and where they were fighting. He said it himself to "be like water" you have to flow and adapt. If Jackie Chan used JKD It'd be completely different from Bruce Lees.

Jackie came up through Peking Opera. While Bruce's father was in the opera (Red Boat), Bruce came up through Gung-fu school and street fighting. This explains the main difference in their style. One is Wushu and the other is real life combat. Two different things. One is used for competition (forms), the other is designed for effectiveness. Lee famously called Wushu "the classical mess" because he believed much of it didn't work in real life situations. And so he used very little in his fight scenes. Jackie truly excelled at Wushu and faithfully executed the various animal forms, choreographing elaborate and impressive fight sequences. Bruce was more into improvisation and trying to make things look real and spontaneous.

Jackie is more Goku, Where Bruce is more Vegeta, tactical and straight to the point. One likes to fuck around and test out his opponents and gauge there strengths and doesn't go full power right off the bat, where as Bruce like Vegeta is more straight to the point and holds nothing back and tries to end things in one go, even a oneshot win if he can.

2:02 - Jackie Chan's talent came from his upbringing as a student of the China Drama Academy where he learned acrobatics, Wing Chun, and graceful dancing. He also admitted he grew up watching Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin which is the inspiration for the slapstick hilarity of his acrobatic stunts and using the environment.

Jackie Chan was trained in traditional Chinese Opera since he was a kid - where the emphasis is on acrobatic stage fighting. Jackie was a phenomenal entertainer with martial arts knowledge. Bruce Lee was a street fighter while growing up in Hong Kong, who chose Wing Chun because it was an effective style for close up fights in cramped areas in that densely populated city. Later, Lee added more effective techniques from other unarmed combat styles to replace the ineffective techniques in Wing Chun. Lee was a phenomenal martial artist first, then an actor/entertainer

Bruce's films are iconic, and he opened so many doors for Asian actors in Hollywood, but I have even more respect for him as an actual martial artist, with an insane dedication to training and conditioning and a passion for cross-training, realism, and mastering the strongest points of every fighting system. As a screen performer, though, Jackie has absolutely no equal: he's both the greatest martial arts movie star of all time, and also probably the greatest physical comedian the cinema has ever produced. Nobody, but nobody, can use his body for comedic purposes as well as Jackie. And, oh yeah, arguably also the greatest stunt performer in movie history as well.

Bruce Lee literally stated that traditional martial arts are pretty much useless. Bruce Lee is more real as a true martial artist than 90% of kung fu schools. Also practicing martial arts isn't necessarily about engaging in fights. Jackie Chan is literally as much of an actor as Bruce Lee. @@intractablemaskvpmGy Another clueless person with another stupid answer, you clearly have NO idea regarding Bruce Lee's 'training' or martial arts history. Let me educate you - Bruce was taught Wing Chun kung fu by Grandmaster Ip Man in Hong Kong. One of the most respected teachers of Wing Chun in China at the time. After Bruce had been involved in several fights in China and after arriving in America he saw how Wing Chun had limits as a fighting style. He then spent the next few years studying and drawing from different combat disciplines such as Tai Chi, Boxing, that led him to found Jeet Kune Do. Lee is considered by critics, media, and other martial artists to be the most influential martial artist of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century, who bridged the gap between East and West. Lee is often credited with paving the way for modern mixed martial arts (MMA). The concept of mixed martial arts was popularised in the West by Bruce Lee via his system of Jeet Kune Do. Lee believed that "the best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style, to be formless, to adopt an individual's own style and not following the system of styles. Lee was largely responsible for many people taking up martial arts. These include numerous fighters in combat sports who were inspired by Lee; boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard said he perfected his jab by watching Lee, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao compared his fighting style to Lee, and UFC champion Conor McGregor has compared himself to Lee and said that he believes Lee would have been a champion in the UFC if he were to compete in the present day. High praise indeed from modern champions. Now YOU have been educated YOU can clearly see how stupid your original comment was. Your welcome 😁

Chan received his first starring role in the 1973 film Little Tiger of Canton. As excited as he was to finally get his big break. His enthusiasm was somewhat tempered when he realised the director wanted him to emulate Lee's fighting and acting style. “I said, 'No, I'm not Bruce Lee. No one can be Bruce Lee. Just as no one can be Jackie Chan as both are legends for a reason. Jackie had once said: "He influenced me a lot, but I knew I could never be him." "He was the king of martial arts, and I just admired him." Recalling Lee’s demeanour on set once, Jackie revealed how Lee helped him out. “Bruce was great, because he got me even more money by telling the stunt coordinator. That it was a dangerous stunt - but it wasn’t a dangerous stunt. He was just trying to help me get paid more, and that made me so happy.” While there are inevitable comparisons here. Chan had said Lee was the one who taught him to pay attention to the image that he projected. “He was under so much pressure to be a superhero, and that was not good for him.” “That’s one thing I learned from his life - do not try and be a superhero.” 🙏💕

Bruce Lee walked so others like Jackie Chan could run, he opend that door. He was a true pioneer of the craft and made Martial Arts movies HUGE as well as being a very inspirational role model for so many people, he was a bridge between East and West when it came to the entertainment industry and beyond and he's also the grandfather of MMA. There's a reason why after 51 years he is still talked about so much, a legend and icon and Jackie Chan always knew this because he was all of those things to him as well. Unlike Bruce though Jackie didn't have formal martial arts training, as in he didn't go to a martial arts school or get taught by a Kung Fu instructor, he was taught operatic Kung Fu for the stage which was very common in Chinese Opera, hence why Jackie was able to incorporate flips and do all the crazy stunts he did because he learned Chinese opera martial arts which used a lot of acrobatics too... Whereas Bruce trained under Master Yip Man and also learned other martial arts techniques from guys like Chuck Norris, Gene Lebelle etc. When he was in America... Then you have Jet Li who learned Kung Fu forms at the Beijing Wushu Academy and Donnie Yen who was taught Wushu by his mother, martial arts legend Bow Sim Mark who is credited as introducing Chinese Wushu to America

@@cyborgchicken3502 I agree with you, Jackie Chan's foundation was in Chinese Opera, where he trained how to act, sing, dance, acrobatics, and stage kung fu. In many occasions especially in his interviews he always say that he's an actor at first I was skeptical not until I read his autobiography that he mentioned the Chinese Opera School in Hong Kong where he spend most of his childhood and early teens. That's why Jackie is a trained actor first and later martial artist.

@@callmecheese4696 I did! The Chinese Opera School is not just a Martial Arts School, there you will learn how to sing, act, dance, acrobatics and of course martial arts, compare to Western Opera where it focuses on powerful singing, acting, and dance, so Chinese Opera is Western Opera with acrobatics and martial arts. But the martial arts that being taught there is more on stage performance and not self defense, that is the reason why Jackie was so good in fight choreography and stunt work. Aside from Jackie, Sammo Hung and Yuen Bias were also an alumni of the Hong Kong Chinese Opera School.

Not to mention the crazy parkour stunts. Those are the WTF moments in hong kong acton movie history. No CG back in those days. Seeing stuntmen do the moves and take the risks always looks better than actors who try to pretend they can do it and may have to use stunt double for every risky thing and it always results in the camera having to be cut up close where we never get full body shots. Bruce Lee added more flashy kicks and looping punches to his movies because it is more visually impressive on film opposed to realistic/practical simple direct attacks which happen "in close" and can't be seen as well on camera. @Trump Is The Messiah 1. Bruce never claimed to be master of any style. He just incorporated a little of the styles he did know to what is most effective in a fight. That's what JKD is. Btw, those "real masters" are a bunch of old guys that'd get their asses kicked by any MMA fighter. Bruce was one of the pioneers of MMA (even Dana White called Bruce the godfather of MMA). - (I Am Bruce Lee documentary) 2. Bruce has demonstrated his one-inch punch to many people. When James Coburn met Bruce, he wanted to see the one-inch punch. Bruce used it on him and Coburn flew back from the hit. After that punch, Coburn asked to be Bruce's student. There's also videos of Bruce using it on wooden boards. - (Death by Misadventure documentary) 3. Bruce has been in multiple fights. The fact that you didn't even mention the most controversial fight, Wong Jackman, shows how little you know. Here's a common piece of info for you guys, since you're too lazy to do any legit research: Hong Kong movies at the time was dominated by the Triad. There were "bounties" out for anyone who can best Bruce Lee. "If you beat him, you take his place" basically. @@hoaxialcable I believe most Chinese styles prefer low kicks. All the high kicks seen in kung fu movies are usually by Korean trained stylist. Plus it is more cinematic. As for JC, he was trained in Peking Opera. More correct to say he is a high level athlete.

@@DAVID-io9nj Southern systems typically don't kick above the waist. They favor in close range fighting with mostly hand techniques. Most use very low stances as well (WC, SPM and White Crane aside). Throws and take downs are not used much. Joint locks are. Most of this has to do with geography. Southern China is warmer, wetter, and population dense. Most of the population living along waterways. Basically, you slip when fighting under those conditions, it's likely over for you. Northern systems favor long range fighting. Higher stances, advanced footwork and lots of high kicks. In close: joint locks, throws and take downs are used. Northern China is drier, cooler, more open areas. Northern China also borders Mongolia. Mongolian fighting is specialized on grappling and throws. So best to keep someone like that at long range. So just how the two major branches developed.

@@Chronicskillness Another factor is that southern Chinese tend to be shorter and stocky compared to northern Chinese. Much harder to kick high. The terrain idea is over rated, in my view. Lots of dry, open fields. At least in and around my family village about 50 miles north of Hong Kong. BTW, I am 5'5", which is a couple inches taller than most males of my generation. Just some ideas.

As a lifelong Bruce Lee fan, my personal pronouncement for the best tribute/impersonation of all time goes to Mike Moh in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. He had the voice, he had the physicality and he had the moves. Despite the objections of the Lee family, I never saw his performance as an insult, just a reimagining in the mind of Quentin Tarantino.

Chan was smart for not trying to be a Bruce Lee clone. Obviously they have different fighting styles and acting styles. One thing Jackie has over Bruce, Chan can turn almost anything into a weapon.

Jackie Chan was and still is Jackie Chan. He doesn't need to be anyone else. If Bruce Lee had lived longer, he may have made as many films and gotten to be as big a name as Jackie has made of himself. He may also have retired and become an insurance salesman door to door, nobody knows. They were/are 2 separate people with amazing skills. There is NO GROUNDS for comparison.

If Bruce Lee were still here, there would not be Jackie Chan; because Bruce Lee was gone in the year 1973, then the movie company had to "create" another actor; this was business

@@bruceparker6142 you might be correct or incorrect; however, the "history" cannot be changed to let people go back to see and judge again; myself a local Hong Kong person, I know much more about the movie industry in the 70s, so it might not be a very good chance for those comedy action movie and for Mr Jackie Chan be a star IF Bruce Lee could continue his career from the year 1973 onwards, e.g., nowadays, there is no such "Kung Fu" style movie similar to Bruce one, if you say Donnie Yen's "Ip Man"? this is not the exact type
