Snails not only do the cleaning, they give off HUGE amounts of CO2, which helps your plants grow faster and healthier. Snails are a WIN WIN in the hobby.
@TalisaAquarist10 ай бұрын
Good to know! I didn’t realize they produced CO2, snails are a much cheaper way to have CO2 in your tank 😁

I don’t mind them. I had Malaysian trumpet snails for years and my water was never more clear. Only really saw them at night. I’m currently trying to grow more. Great video.

Love my snails
@NamelessNancy131210 ай бұрын
i have them big ivory mystery snails, ramshors, and bladder snails in my indoor pond tank and LOADS of plants with the deep sand bed and undergravel filters. Its been going great, the snails really keep my work load low lol. Some of my mystery snails are up to 1/3 of their maxium size in like 6 months and growing well so they must be doing a good job. I actually wanna lower my big fish count and just keep small fish.

it looks like you do have land snails which is just as cute as aquarium snails, bc you can handle them. inspired me to work on a land snail tank.

@@NamelessNancy1312 I have land (Roman) snails yes, but I also have a mystery/apple snail and a ramshorn. I'm planning on getting more of the latter, because I truly love gastropods (the goldfishes are more of an ornament lol. I love them as well, but mainly want the snails)

I’m in some Facebook groups about aquarium, keeping, and people constantly say contradictory things online… and I have seen online people say that nothing eats poop. If you’re looking for something that eats poop, don’t. This is not something I was looking for when I got some ramshorn snails, but I got some grown ones and I keep some bare bottom on my tank so I watch them munch through little shrimp turds. Awesome recyclers. I also am awaiting teeny baby ramshorns. Very curious how they’ll become, and if they’ll look the same or different from one another
@blue_by_name10 ай бұрын
@TalisaAquarist your "Theory" is quite correct. Snails and shrimp, especially Amano Shrimp will help to keep your aquarium looking cleaner. I have several tanks that have a good sized population of snails and I haven't had to clean the glass on any of them for months. The gravel also looks brand new, even though the tanks have been established months and in some cases, years ago. It is well known throughout the hobby that snails are important to the ecosystem. They help to break down the fish waste into much smaller waste which then becomes plant food. Excess mulm can look messy but a good colony of snails will help with that. I put snails in all of my tanks long before I ever add fish. If you feed the fish the right amount of food, the snail colony will stay manageable and not become excessive. It is a pleasure to watch your channel growing. Keep up the good work and thank you for the videos.

I couldn't figure out why my freshly cycled tank is all dirty and ugly, I went to the lfs and brought back a bag full of free Malaysian trumpets (and got a few weird looks from the staff as to why would I want them). Within a week, my tank became beautiful and the plants stopped dying! :D

I have a cool little cycle of dnails and assassin snails. When I over feed, the snails bloom. Then the assassin snails have more food, so they bloom. Then the food supply dies down and the assassin population goes down. Then the threat is gone, so the regular snails bloom again And it just goes back and forth nonstop and it helps keep my tank in great condition!
@TalisaAquarist10 ай бұрын
Sounds like it’s working for you! I don’t seem to have any bladder snails left in my tanks with assassin snails
@gardian170110 ай бұрын
I say this in every fb fish group I'm in. It gets on my nerves when people post a picture of ONE small snail they've noticed panicking about it. Ffs, they think their tank has to be sterile like a hospital. I shove wild stuff like oak from rivers into my tank, never had problems. I always introduce a variety of snails to my tanks. Malaysian Trumpets, they sieve the mulm into the sand for the plants, the other snails are clean-up and algae control.

1:55 for some reason i think your ONLY issue is no filter while snails help they dont stop THAT from happening that only happens if you use no filter and neglect the tank for weeks

I don't think the snail particularly eat algae, I think they eat all the excess food and fish waste that feeds the algae , thus starving out the algae.

That could be the case!

Cichlids also kill snails. My firemouth even attacked adult mystery snails.
@SarahHeartzUnicorns10 ай бұрын
If you wanted to really really try to get rid of the assassin snails, I would remove and let the substrate dry first and work to go bare bottomed. Then later I would observe& remove from plants. Maybe alum/H2O2/bleach treat if you think that’s best
