Hoovies also had the same issue with his Rolls Royce Phantom run flat Michelin tires. He did find a used Rolls Royce wheels that fits instead of going aftermarket.

I had this exact van (down to the color) up until a couple months ago. I didn't find an easy way to change these tires out for something cheaper and had to actually replace them a pair at a time while I saved up to replace the old worn out tires. I have a CR-V now.

I've noticed this too, and I probably wouldn't have even wondered why unless I'd read the original article in Car and Driver/MotorTrend/Road and Track when this system was first launched. I suspected it had to do with the PAX system, but I wasn't sure why I still saw Odysseys with the original wheels then. Limiting it to upper trim levels makes sense

this is so weird. this video was suggested to me literally hours after work,l at my tire shop, in which i asked my assistant manager why this honda wheel we had was so odd with a piece of plastic in it. i get it now. i’m rather experienced, and have seen lots of other runflats but this was new to me. same with the wheel diameter.

I wish I would have known this 2 1/2 years ago. I've had to replace the tires 3 times because they only last 30k miles and they're usually dealer exclusive which will usually run you about $290 per tire not including labor and fees. I bought a brand new set on ebay mounted and balanced on wheels for 275 per tire. There are deals out there you just have to look for them.

I always assumed it was a similar situation with some BMWs. You dent one rim and it's cheaper to replace all your rims with aftermarket ones than to buy one factory wheel. Thx for the vid.

My friend's family sold their 3rd gen Odyssey when their tires wore down cuz they didn't feel like going through the hassle of getting new wheels and tires. They went on to get a 4th gen Odyssey that they crashed. Then they bought a 4th gen facelift. They like Odysseys

The PAX system came on the Phantom and bug Veyron as well. And I believe the Odyssey had a class-action specifically over the PAX system, namely added fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

I remember when I first started working at a Honda dealership, the first set of pax tires took me almost 6 hours to change. Having to fiddle around with ratchet straps, that stupid entering and grease. Also it would cost to customer over $2000 for a set of four tires so it was easier just to sell aftermarket wheels and tires for cheaper.

This reminds me of my 02 Ford escape, when ever I'd talk to a mechanic to get new tires they'd tell me it was hard to find in that size because they are bigger than a standard sedan tire but smaller than most other suv tires

haven't watched the video, The answer is that the Runflat tyres/wheels combo--> you can't get new tyres for them, so you need different wheels that normal tyres can be mounted on

No biggie. 17" rims from 2011 odyssey's fit just fine. Make sure to transfer tpms sensors.

We changed our Toyota Sienna run flats after we realized we were driving on tires that had huge cuts in them and decided we’re not spending up to $1,000 to fix them we managed to find tires that fit the existing rims tho

As an aside they do still make these tire for the odyssey. However, generally only the dealer can do it and only some dealers have the equipment to do it. I know this because I just replaced some the other day :) They are getting less and less though. And I've already heard rumors of Michelin discontinuing these tires even for the odyssey.

I'm going to take a guess before this video starts. The run flat tires on these were too expensive so people got rid of the specially wheels and went aftermarket so they can run normal tires.
