Just a quick video to enjoy how amazing the i7 truly is. Still leaves room for the electric Rolls Royce to come, but for the money I’m not sure you could have a more isolated and premium driving or riding experience. Totally understand the audio on this video isn’t amazing, our mics broke and all stores were out of replacements. Apologies!

Yay! Another 150k car that the majority of the population can’t afford. I understand that the higher end market is where so many EVs are designed for, but I really can’t wait until we start seeing more sub 50k electric vehicles. Hyundai just announced it with the EV6, and hopefully the Chevy Blazer and Equinox deliver it this year, too. I’m just tired of seeing videos on cars that I (and I think most people) will never own. Personally, I’ll be more interested in what your dad’s experience is with his new base Model 3. I might actually buy one of those.

I believe the doors open fairly quick enough for anyone, unless you’re being chased by someone. About the doors closing on your legs, I’ve never seen anyone closing a door with their legs outside the door, and for children, adults normally put them in the car, in their car seat, and the older kids who don’t need a car seat will most likely close the door with their legs inside the car, we don’t close the automatic trunk with our head still inside the trunk.
@jr1885
@jr1885 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. You don’t have to use the automatic functions, however if you do, just be prepared for sensors to scan around to make sure that door doesn’t swing into someone. I actually appreciate that it stops to scan around the vehicle first.

Electric powertrains are superior for driving on streets, because instant prodigious torque, but for a heavy luxury car, even more so, because of the control throttle mapping gives you. Also, if you are stopped anywhere, for any reason, you shouldn't have to run a stinky put put motor to power the vehicle. Also, charging at home is more convenient than going to a gas station. Ever since I got my Dual Motor Model 3, whenever I saw a review of some fancy pants luxury car with a twin turbo V8, all I could think of is they fell behind the technology curve. As far as queasiness goes, I'm convinced that is caused by your body's unconcious expectations about what the car will do being out of sync with what it actually does, so, you'll get used to it, and then prefer it.

The e38 7 series (smaller version) is smaller than a current day 5 series; so that's what you should be comparing it to. The new 7 series is a much larger vehicle. BMW increased the size of their older 3 and 5 series to the size of the next size class up. Probably partially to add in more safety features, add more crumple zone, and add more space for larger / more complex engines. It also allowed them to squeeze in some smaller class vehicles in the 1 and 2 series.

"Tesla did that 6 years ago" ... cool, thanks for letting us know Kyle. Meanwhile... Rolls Royce... owned by BMW, has had automatic doors since at least 2011. Remember to know your history before starting in with the random "Tesla did it first" fanboism. Like, even if they were first, would that preclude other brands for getting credit for for implementing a luxury feature? Just seems a bit nonsensical. Meanwhile, you spent the rest of the video going over feature after feature that Tesla ain't got... but woooowww.. it's good to know Tesla did automatic doors since 2016! FYI, Tesla's model X door implementation is pretty terrible. Sometimes the doors open, sometimes they don't. When someone is standing next to the doors, sometimes they open all the way ... sometimes they don't. Standing in the doors way... it WILL hit you. Falcon wing doors claim they can open with only 12" of clearance.. until they won't open with 12"-14" of clearance. Open the rear and front doors simultaneously and one may open, the other won't. Kid gets in the back seat and closes their door before you're in the front seat, now you're risking ramming your head into the edge of the falcon wing door. Tesla (and Mercedes?) do allow you to walk up to the car and it'll open the doors automatically... which I'm sure is fun during those times you're not actually trying to get in the car... lol. I mean, sometimes you just have to call an implementation for what is is.... terrible and pointless. The model X would have been better off with sliding doors like a van... except then Tesla tech bros wanting all the "technology?" wouldn't buy it I guess. Sadly, some have lost their falcon wing doors to garage openings and .. strangely... buses. You're making a tremendously big deal about a 'tiny' delay in the the automatic doors opening, which is likely meant to give the person the chance to move out of the way. The door opens nearly 90 degrees. This feature isn't meant to get you into your car faster; a handle will always be faster. It's meant to be a luxury convenience. Have bags in both hands, are older and struggle with opening those ginormous doors, have a handicap, are a small child getting in the back seat... these automatic doors are for you. I imagine the real value though is in the auto closing mechanism, since she's clearly struggling to reach the door handle. I'm pretty small, so I used to have that problem on my 5 series when the door was fully opened, and those doors were thicc, versus Tesla's paper thin aluminum doors that do little to keep noise out. I'd have loved auto-closing doors. The door closing with too much force against an obstruction could definitely be an issue if a child figures out a way to get chocked by it. (they always do!) I wouldn't worry about it crushing their foot/leg... if it had that much force, Anna wouldn't be sitting there allowing the door to crush her leg 3x ... It may put some pressure on a leg, but I doubt it'll cause any real damage. That said, the door shouldn't re-open automatically since it could swing out into an obstruction like a bike / car going by. Speaking of Tesla and doors potentially harming children, I'd suggest everyone watch Bjorn's model X hotdog test... nope wouldn't want to get my fingers / legs caught in one of those doors!

Yup! Just at the MB dealer yesterday and there were several four year old S450’s with 50k miles (just off lease) selling for right around half the price of comparably equipped brand new models. They sure were tempting though, refreshed to look like new inside and out, sitting under showroom lights, who doesn’t want a Mercedes for half price?! But then I remembered, that’s just the price to buy it… not the cost to own it!

I also like the EQS better. More range, efficiency, and charging speed. That is the luxury that counts. The i7 reminds me of 1980’s Cadillacs with their very underpowered engines. Luxury should always have superior powertrain to justify its price.

You are so right. BMW do so many thing’s really well but then there are things that they do that let them down. They have always had these problems. So bloody frustrating

The one time I prefer the BMW 7 over the Mbz S. I just wish BMWs infotainment was easier to use..it’s unnecessarily too confusing to use. Must be simplified bmw!
