I have the 2013 Prius , I purchased it at 200k miles , Replaced wheel bearings, sway bar links, brakes , cleaned carbon from complete, EGR system, replaced fluids, cleaned hybrid battery fan & ducts, added a oil catch can due to oil burning issues & it’s been perfect up until it blew the head gasket at 247k miles, EGR valve also failed at the same time, I replaced it myself for about $300 in parts & it’s still going strong 💪

The Prius does not has a CVT, it has a eCVT which is 2 electric motors with a few gears, connected to the ICE, it's the simpler and most robust transmission ever.

Look guys, Both eCVT and CVT have planetary gearbox. Difference is that 3rd gen Prius have belt-pulley system while eCVTs have electric motor to assist in speed variability!

My 2012 Prius has 150k miles I have never had any major issues ever. Just oil changes and new tires. I get 55-60 miles a gallon. driving 55-70 miles per hour. I made one upgrade and got Apple carplay installed. I'm going to drive this thing until the wheels fall off.

I'm actually a fan of this generation of Prius since I rode on one overseas. The design is very distinctive and the hatchback bodystyle is an added bonus on efficient use of space. The 2023 model looks like a more refined version of this generation.

Just replaced my Hybrid battery a week ago on a 2012 Prius V which had just able 250,000 miles on it. I purchased a 24-module set from a professional Hybrid Battery reconditioning company and installed them myself. It ain't hard you just have to take your time and view Chris Fixes' video (a few times) and you'll be just fine. That saved me about $500.00-$700.00 in labor cost. With that high mileage I do suspect a head gasket leak but I did the coolant system tweak so I'm no longer getting a P301 misfire code and the car runs beautifully. These cars can be had cheap if the Hybrid Battery is dead because people think that's the end-game for them. Nothing could be further from the truth. Buy them cheap enough and you got one heck of a car after inexpensively repair/replacing that battery with a reconditioned one.

This particular Prius with those rims actually looks really nice, even though they’re 17s I think the rims look very classy, and back in 2010 when is debuted, it had LED headlights, and amazing driver assistance features. What sucks is that you couldn’t get the Prius five advanced with the LED headlights and the driver assistance system with a larger, solar sunroof, stupid omission. I really like these cars. I think they drive pretty nice, the doors feel very light, but in sport mode it’s plenty fast enough if a bit loud. They are so extremely reliable. I know that the first few years of this generation had some oil leak problems, but as long as you keep an eye on it, and you make sure to clear the filter out in the backseat for the hybrid battery they last a very long time👌
@Nathan_Jay
@Nathan_Jay 2 жыл бұрын
This is the 5 Advanced 🤣 but you can't get the 5 with the Solar Sunroof, it's only available on the 3 & 4. Don't worry though, I keep all the maintenance up to spec, I've worked on em before & am an aircraft mechanic by trade so I'm not letting anything go in this. It's got new filters & fluids, EGR, PCV, & will probably be getting a Lithium Swap by the end of the year.

@@Nathan_Jay From a fellow 3rd gen owner, I thought it weird that you had to choose between the solar sunroof and LED headlights/adaptive cruise. Why couldn't Toyota do both on the top trim?
@Nathan_Jay
@Nathan_Jay 2 жыл бұрын
@@bwofficial1776 EPA. The Solar Sunroof combined with Trim 5 would have increased the weight enough to require Toyota to retest just that model with the EPA. It made no sense, because almost no one would spend $38K on a Prius, let alone over $40K. So they just didn't offer it.

Take it from another owner, the 3rd gen is peak Prius (so far). It's dorky and slow but it does what it's supposed to do very well. Very comfortable, reliable, more spacious than you'd expect, handles and stops better than you'd think, great fuel economy. I got 62MPG indicated twice. Fun fact, the part of the dashboard from the fuel gauge to the shift indicator is projected from below. The shifter is easy to use and quick to toggle between gears. Putting it in B engages extra regen/engine braking, great for scrubbing off a few MPH coming into a corner. EV mode is only useful for creeping through a parking lot and uses the charge in the battery because this isn't a PHEV. If the car is cold it'll only go 15MPH at 20% throttle. If the car is warm you can go 25MPH at about 30% throttle but it'll immediately cancel if you exceed either. I was able to go half a mile in EV starting with a full indicated battery until it kicked back to regular. Toyota did trim levels weird. The base is the Two. There is no One in the US. The Three has more options like a better radio. The Four (which is what I have) is the same as a Three but with manual heated "leather" seats. You can option a sunroof/solar panel to run the HVAC fan while the car's off. The Five is the top trim and gets you power seats, LED headlights, fog lights adaptive cruise, but oddly you lose the solar sunroof option. I don't see why Toyota couldn't do both.
@Nathan_Jay
@Nathan_Jay 2 жыл бұрын
I've got another comment on here but TLDR Trim 5 + Solar Sunroof would need new EPA testing & no one would spend >$40K on a Prius, so Toyota didn't do it.

I recently got a 2010 after taking on a new job with a commute. I drive about 82 miles per day round trip, and I can do all 5 days on one tank of gas with miles to spare. Averaging 46-48 MPG at 70-72 mph in a 14 year old hybrid with 140,000 miles on original hybrid batteries. No complaints here! Great video!

@@pilinke11 I have the 2014 plug in and the 2020 prime, imo the 4th gens are easier to work on engine wise, but overall maintenance wise they are pretty similar with how you get to certain parts of the vehicle like brakes, oil, transmission fluid, etc. In the gen 3, to change spark plugs are an absolute pain if you are using hand wrenches to take 12 trim bolts apart to get to the top of the engine in the 3rd gen prius, in the 4th gen it give you a little more space to wrench with if you need to. but I havent changed the 3rd gen spark plugs until 135k miles, and will probably not do it again until 200k+.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 2012 model, great for short and long trips, comfortable, and wasn’t that slow to me. Battery went out at 140k miles, $1,600 to fix which wasn’t bad. Cleaning EGR was a pain, and rats chewed through a bunch of wiring and my gas tank lines, so ended up trading for 2018 Chevy Volt.

Technically advanced car, there's so much going on, you have to own one to really appreciate it fully. I like the gear shifter, it's really easy to operate, shame they've dropped it for the new model and gone for a conventional type. No rubber drivebelts to worry about, no cam belt to replace at regular intervals.

To me, it looks like it belongs on an arcade video game. Especially, a driving video game. Being the owner of this Prius & having rebuilt the 2ZR-FXE engine before, they are definitely a concern. But if you do your EGR servicing, fluids, & filters, you can easily go 200-300K depending on how you drive. Just make sure you have service records of an EGR servicing before 100K miles, take good care of her, & you'll be just fine. Only repair I've had to do in 21K miles (97K-118K so far) was the back left TPMS sensor for $150 at the dealership. Only mods so far are the paint, tint, & sound system (completely redone, factory radio reinstalled just for the review), still working on getting some more suspension & cosmetic work done.
