Se more insight from a current VB WRX owner: - You'll average 18 MPG if you love in an urban area because of the cold starts and short trips drain faster than long trips - Per the WRX forums, it's reccomend to change the oil every 3K miles - it's known thar WRXs have glass transmissions. They won't break within a couple uses but you do need to avoid money shifting with this one. - decent cargo space when you pull down the rear seats - They look much better tinted (subjective) - Car is low profile, need low profile ramps if you don't have your own shop, to fit a jack under the front. You could also jack it up from the pinch welds on the side but I don't like that. - Dealers can tell when you modify/flahs the ECU. So think before you use COBB access ports. Warranty work can be denied because of it. - 1st gear is not the best if you are an aggressive driver. Powerband prefers mid range. Higher end acceleration tapers off - Many smiles per gallon on a curvy roads where you are between 2nd - 4rth gear!

@martymiller43006 ай бұрын
All Subaru manual transmission cars (except the BRZ/FRS which has a Toyota transmission) have a flaw in the clutch that your article overlooks. Where the release bearing moves to disengage the pressure plate there is a surface called the ‘quill’ that on any other design is a cast iron part of the input bearing/seal retainer. Aka Subaru manual transmission cases split longitudinal and that quill surface is a cast aluminum extension on the front of the case halves. Because the carrier for the release bearing is steel it naturally wears uneven stress patterns into the soft aluminum case in normal use. The result is uneven movement as the clutch is released, manifested as clutch chatter. The problem is so prevalent that an aftermarket company makes a speedy-sleeve to install over the damaged quill and a release bearing with corresponding larger inside diameter. To my knowledge no other manufacturer has a designed in failure in this area that has prompted aftermarket remedy. My stepson recently lemon lawed a ‘22 WRX rather than having the dealership do an in-the- field transmission case replacement because they refused to acknowledge the aftermarket remedy. This at 36K miles from new. So the manual transmission is not a bulletproof alternative to the CVT as seems to be the assumption. CVTs that get regular fluid replacement maintenance easily outlast 36K in my experience.

AWD allows you to accelerate quicker but it doesn't stop any faster. RWD shows slipperyness better than others options.

Had a 24 Legacy but just traded it for a 23 Tacoma off road. Loved the legacy but the CVT was what made me wanna get rid of it

Must have gotten lucky. I have a 2012 3.6 and never had a problem. Engine's as strong @ 100K as when it was new. Doesn't burn oil. Only maintenance I've had to do is regular service such as brakes, oil changes, and interval servicing. I have heard stories of some people having issues with the 3.6 but mine's been probably the best car I've owned. Further, I've heard of some people still having issues with the 2L having head gasket issues. To be fair though, the mechanic I go to who's a certified factory tech-- says the newer 4 cyl Subys are good and the Onyx XT is well made and engineered.

I Love My Subaru; it was made by Toyota in Japan. I have a Solterra & I love it. I take 1 road trip a year, I live in the only place in Canada with mild winters so I don't lose much range in the winter. Our Electricity is cheap & our gas is expensive. I love it & it fits my needs but it's not for everyone (frequent road trippers)

I went through several Subarus when I lived in Colorado. The last one I had was built in Indiana and it had lots of problems. I switched to a RAV4 and never looked back.

Its true most people dont NEED AWD. Even in cold climates you can make due with RWD setups and the right tires/weight distribution. Same with FWD. On days when the weather is bad you dont even have to drive if you dont want to. I own an AWD vehicle thou because i like knowing i have full traction on the road and the few times weather conditions are rough im as prepared as possible and confident my vehicle will get me anywhere i need to go at anytime. I use an all season tire with some extra tred/ design for snow.

I am glad you now call the manual transmission "manual" instead of "standard"
@mrgarrison35166 ай бұрын
I don't know why it was ever called 'standard' to begin with 🤷..... there's always been a more % of automatic vehicles
@kalikorage6 ай бұрын
@@mrgarrison3516 automatic was the deviation, manual was first therefore it was "standard"
@DoYouThinkForUrselF6 ай бұрын
The previous generation called them standards hence why i often call them a standard still to this day......I am 51 btw.
@tedantares27516 ай бұрын
@@mrgarrison3516 It was called standard because it was included in base trims. To get an auto, one had to pay an extra $1000-2000
@mrgarrison35166 ай бұрын
Thanks for the replies👍. In Australia they've always been called manual (stick-shift by my grandfather)....never called standard 🤔

subaru are good. only thing I hate is the head gasket will need to be change . to do that propertly, you need to remove the engine. other than that its great!

A good rule of thumb: the faster you drive/the worse the road conditions get, the more you want AWD. You don’t “need” it many places, but it makes life SO much easier if you have snow and hills where you live. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, and drove those numerous hills in all weather conditions. GOOD snow tires, Subaru (or Audi) AWD, and having snow driving skills made winter driving easy and fun for me.

I have a 2021 Crosstrek sport, I live up in Canada manitoba and let me tell you when we had some big snow storms up here and I left everyone in the dust like they standing still. Everyone was slipping all over the place as if they were driving on greasy hotdogs and I looked in my rear view mirror and I was 30 cars ahead and just gone in the windy snow. Nothing drives like a Subaru.

I always thought I might end up with an Impreza--I love hatchbacks and wagons. My first car was an '81 Subaru GL hatch. That wasn't so good, but still fun to drive with manual. I needed a new car in 2021 and the local Subaru dealer had none in stock. But he had a 2019 Hyundai GT N-Line 6-speed manual. This is a 1.6L turbo with 200HP. Handles great and fun to drive. I know Hyundais are a mixed bag--Scotty thinks they're crap--but this was made in Korea, not US, and hoping with care it lasts. It's the same beautiful blue as this WRX. I always wanted a WRX, too, but in 2021, no one had any cars.

I was given a 2016 Subaru Outback with an automatic transmission. I love it. Is there anything I should know? 67,000 miles needs an alignment. Was the family’s extra car in case anyone needed one. Some jerk smashed my 2007 Camry, hence how I ended up with it.

Hi Scott, I think you need to talk the people at some of the big box retailers that told me the oil from last year won't be any good for my snow blower. Thanks for another informative video.

Hi, i have a 2014 Subaru Outback with awd...plenty not perfect, but. I remember a roadtrip during blizzard conditions...unnerving to be sure. I must say that the cars, trucks and suvs stuck in embankments was astounding! My awd was a Godsend. Inspite of several slippery moments where I was a little concerned, i was able to pull out of them and keep on booking...

Head gasket problems were replaced by ringland failures. Probably not a problem for people that drive “normally”, but that’s the new weak link.

This car is great. I bought one really early on and its been good to me. I disagree about modifications. The FA24 in these new VBs are pretty easy to make much more reliable power. Drivetrain handles 400 ft lbs torque reliably too. You also only need a tune and maybe a better air intake to run e85. Ive seen mine do 376 wheel horsepower and over 400 torque on a dyno.

I loved my awd manuel Subarus. Now I drive a 99 dodge 2500 and I don't care what anyone says cuz I have horses and mules and I need big truck.....but....In my Subaru, I used to pass by (like a fish) trucks like what I have now that were stuck in 2 feet of snow and slush or mud. It never failed me. Good tires and manual got me up our goat trail north idaho road year round.

That grand Cherokee Jeep in the back ground. Lucky whoever owns it. I miss mine! I had a 1999 limited with the venerable 4.0 straight six. Best longest lasting engine ever made. Three mechanics I know in the 90's early 2000's all said "they got rid of that engine because it was too good." Mine was not bad on gas like some people claim. I sold it 6 years ago with 245 thousand miles, it ran like NEW!

He got a good deal. I paid 32 for my 2012 without leather less horse power and a 5 speed and very cheap interior. It was a fun car to drive you forgot to mention great breaking. I put almost 10000 with only two issues first was rear view mirror fell off the 2nd was a pin hole in a factory oil filter smoke started rolling out from underneath.
