Exactly. I drive from Philly to Pittsburgh twice a week for my job sometimes and my 99 camry has not once left me stranded or in distress. This car even had no oil in it when i bought it off the original owner like the dipstick was bone dry. Great vehicles. Maybe not the most personality or looks but great freakin cars.

Great car. Built like a tank. Have mine - a 2005. 300,000 kms. Toronto, Canada. The last generation of sturdy Camry. Everything looks and feels high quality- those climate knobs are weighted and turn nicely into place. The turning and wiper stalks are solid as well.

Had mine since 2005 144k. Other than a few dings and interior roof cloth coming loose, the only maintenance I've done are oil changes, replacing tires and replacing the alternator. It still runs like I remember. Its a highly reliable car.

I just bought a 2002 Camry that has 98000 kilometers on it which is 60,000 miles. I put goodyear tires on it only because the pirellis were 12 years expired changed the oil and filters and transmission fluid. Brake pads and struts and shocks because leaking. I paid $4000 for the car but two owner,and sellin only because wife having baby. He bought from family friend who owned it for 18 years but did not drive it much hence the mileage.I feel extremely lucky to have found it and btw the paint is perfect, no dings or dents or loss of clearcoat. I believe the years of 2002- 2006 were better quality built and this one was built in Japan. First owner was Japanese. I'm American retired in The Philippines!

I would recommend getting this car too. I've had my 2005 camry for 10 years and it's solid. If you're an aggressive driver like myself or cautious driver this cars got you. It's unbelievably reliable, great on gas, has more than enough horsepower and torque to pass anyone, great on a city and dirt roass and it doesn't cost alot to maintain.

Parts under hood may have come via the devil, souls were sold to gain the tech to build such a Carr that is affordable. I have a 2003 Camry LE 4 cyl with 198k miles on it; just recently it had to go into the shop for the dreaded head bolt stripping issue. This 2.4L engine has the same problem as the Cadillac Northstar engines where the steel head bolts strip out of the aluminum block and they need to be rethreaded, causing the engine to randomly overheat (another sign of this problem occurring is water sloshing sounds behind the dashboard, as mine did). The total bill came to about $1900 and that included rethreading all 10 bolt holes and a head bolt kit, a valve job (some got destroyed from overheating), and a new water pump. This is the best way to fix the issue, as a replacement engine could have the same problem. The fix is worth it; car runs like it's brand new. Still believe it's one of the best cars ever made.

My '03 4-banger with 180K on it has some dings and dents (tree limb fell on roof, idiot slammed on brakes and caused a fender bender), and I almost got rid of it when water pump went out but did the job myself for $30., so now I have decided to drive it another 100K miles since it otherwise runs like a new car. i had an 04 camry but sadly it got in an accident and the insurance labeled as a total loss, luckily i found another camry an 02 i just bought and it works great so far. these cars are great on gas really reliable and affordable, if you're looking for a simple car to get from point a to point b then get a toyota camry these cars are great.

I’ve had my 2006 Camry XLE V6 since 2010 with no problems! Just replaced timing belt and water pump and other routine maintenance as well. Currently has 228k miles and I still drive from North Carolina home to Ohio to visit family with no issues!

Did you mean the serpentine belt? I asked a mechanic about the condition of the timing belt on my 2002 Camry. He phoned back and said there was no timing belt. The car has a timing chain, which is rated for the life of the vehicle. Mine is 20 years old now with 200k km on it. Still a spring chicken. :)

My daughter has a 2002 Camry LE with 190k. She has been using it to run Door Dash deliveries and she completed a weekend road trip last weekend. I drained and filled the transmission fluid three times, with some driving between drain and fills, and I replaced the transmission filter. The shifting got a lot of smoother after I replaced 80% of the transmission fluid. The starter motor failed this past September. The AutoZone Duralast Starter Motor was easy to install and affordable.

ronnie bass yes this specific one was for the 4 cylinder model. Because the piston rings in the block were a bad design by the manufacturer causing massive amounts of oil consumption. The engine name was the 2azfe. I have an 04 Camry LE in red with 139,000 miles and the original owner had that recall taken care of one the vehicle before it was sold to me. The other cars affected were the scion TC, XB, Toyota Matrix XRS, Highlander etc.

We had a 2003 Camry and, while very reliable, was hit many times while parked or stopped at a light. Several weeks ago, my wife was T-boned , which totaled her 2003 with 170k miles. The insurance company gave us $3k. I looked around a lot for an economical replacement. We eventually purchased a 2014 Camry with 55k mi for $10.5k.

Wife has been driving her 02 for years now. We bought it at 2 years old with 10k mi on it. She drives app 100mi a day for work. It’s been stone reliable and now has 265k mi on it. We’ve had to do normal maintenance , starter, batteries, valve cover gasket, brakes and tires, spark plugs twice. That’s pretty much it in all this time. She just bought a 2019 so the 02 will be moving on...maybe. We have been considering just keeping it for a 3rd vehicle for when one of the others may need a shop day or such. It’s more than paid for itself and doesn’t eat anything, so keeping it wouldn’t cost much of anything.

You may possibly develop a head gasket leak around 230,000 miles. The head bolts on the intake manifold side strip out of the block due to spot overheating from the insulation between the intake and the head. If you do notice it, there is a relatively easy fix called "Time Sert". They're basically advanced helicoil kits that you drill the stripped holes out and insert new threads. I did it and now my 2003 camry is up to 362,000 miles. It burns oil really bad so I've decided to rebuild the engine.

Nice video. I Inherited a 2003 LE with 39K miles on it last March 2019. I had an old 81 Honda Accord. Both are four cylinders but the Toyota has a lot more pickup and power when you put your foot on the gas. Yes, a very smooth ride and similar to the Honda I don't "worry" about this car ... just super dependable and low maintenance. Glad to see so many others who are enjoying this model too. I just replaced the tires and went with Yokohama Avid GT, good tires, good price. Also a rear brake light went out ... super easy to replace the $6 bulb from amazon with help from a KZbin video.

I love my Camry and I'm glad others love it too. I have the Australian "Sportivo" edition which has a lot of nice extra features and sports suspension but at the end of the day, it's still a Camry. It's not fast but it'll get you where you need to go every single time, in comfort :) Also, thanks for mentioning the rocker cover gasket leaks. Mine has had it replaced, and the new one is currently leaking already. Won't kill the car, but it's the most common problem

I just got a 2002 Camry because it was immediately available when my truck died (325,000 miles). My plan was to drive the Camry until I could by another Chevy but I love this car! It needed a little care but overall it is in great shape! I can easily see it exceeding 300,000. The gas savings alone will save its purchase price in no time. Very strong cars. We took our 2003 trip to Paris from Norway last summer. No worries.. Tackles everything from the motorway to winding Norwegian small roads. Just swapped the plugs on a 2002 2.4, for a mate. He had got the wrong plugs at a workshop. The car didn't go as it should. But now it is completely healthy and nice again :)

I just purchased a 250k kilo Camry 2001 , it’s surprisingly been driven smoothly and easy to maintain. 1k been done, since two weeks ago, let me see how will it be going in the future. Some article says Camry can go for average 40k kilos, I will try. But my Camry was not looks nice as yours, but still good looking after I cleaned it and detailed...I m from Australia Sydney. Before, my second hand Holden astra just went 160k kilos then engine blowed up in 8 years. Another second hand ford Mendeo have run 190k kilos for 8 years then gear box cramped which gave me frustrating feeling on the road for a long time. My first car in my life was a Toyota echo 2001, very smooth and reliable, never broken me down on the road for 8 years, which gave me the first impression of the car, would never break down, but the later Holden and ford gave me the life lessons of lemon cars.

3 years ago, I bought a 2003 Toyota Camry LE. Mine had 221,000 miles on the car when I bought the car. Now it has 251,000 miles. It runs great and I changed the oil the first weekend. Had new spark plugs, changed the trans axle oil, had ceramic pad installed on the front brakes. New tires 2 years ago. New Catalytic Converter and both O2 sensors replaced. I love the car and it is the first non American vehicle I have ever owned. With all that I have done? Is no problem. I have worked for Auto Parts warehouses as a driver. Parts are easy for me.

Definitely pretty good cars, 200K is just getting started. I bought a 2003 for my daughter 5 years ago with 180K on it. Same color as yours, except the clearcoat was worse and it had the 3.0 V6 engine. She took it all over the western US and also drove it every day, too. It never let her down, nothing done except regular maintenance in all that time. It now has almost 290K on it and still looks great inside (apparently about 99% of these cars have that tear in the dash around the airg bag). However, all of a sudden it needs several things at once - steering rack, water pump, windshield, a hard-to-find vacuum leak that throws a code, plus probably a few other things. All fixable, and frankly overdue for replacement anyhow, but quite a bit of money to throw at a hgh mileage 17 year old car , so she is moving on a much newer car instead. Not sure what that will be, but I doubt she'll have as much luck with the new one. Although the V6 worked well for her, I would recommend the 4 cylinder engine instead. Sludge is myth, same said about 4cyl. Change oil every 5k 330k on my 03 v6 inside valve cpvers spotless oil still clean and clear at 5k oil changes. Sludge was found to be bad oil change intervals. Every 5k no issue

I bought my Camry a couple of months ago with 381000 miles on it. Has been a great driver until a couple of weeks ago when it went into limp mode. Point is when an electronic part goes bad that does not trip the check engine light be prepared to take it to a mechanic to have it scanned for a diagnosis. It's been frustrating for me since I don't mind turning a wrench or two to fix my car but without a scan tool you are pretty much at the mercy of the mechanic. So I just bought one of these today. 2003 Toyota Camry LE. Same color same interior and everything. The body is straight and in perfect condition and the paint is not even faded with only very minor specks around the door handle and a small scratch on the rear bumper. It has 87,359 miles on it and it's a one owner. It came out of Florida and has all the service records and history, and it seems to have been garage kept. The 2.4 vvt engine runs very smooth and quiet and there is not a sign of an oil leak anywhere. Its very clean. The transmission feels strong and shifts out smoothly as well. From what I've seen and heard these cars are very reliable and last for well over 200k miles. The guy at the car lot where I bought it gave me a two year warranty that covers the engine, transmission, drive train, electrical issues, and more, and includes roadside assistance. He was so sure of the car that he told to just bring it back if I had ANY issues whatsoever and he'd take care of it. We've looked around for months trying to find a car with less than 100k miles that was in "fair" condition, and they are really hard to find. If you do find one its usually over $10k. This car is like new inside and out and it was priced under $10k. I know that still sounds pricey for a 20 year old car and I did hesitate about buying it, but it was the best car we'd found. Anyway, these days everything is expensive. I honestly don't think I got a bad deal and I'm looking to put at least another 100k on it.

Daily Driver, I purchased a 2005 LE with a leather interior 11 months ago to use for LYFT. It had 226000 miles on it, now 244000. I've had to replace the windshield wiper motor and the water pump and speed sensor. I was only charged for labor for the water pump by the dealer I bought it from. I enjoy driving it and it rides very smooth, in fact it rides and handles like new; I enjoy driving it more than my 2015 RAV4. I have received many compliments about how clean it is however later this year it will be too old to use for LYFT. For me, it will be a great second car.

I have an '02 in blue just like you. 270K still going strong...ish. I live up north so the rust really got to it. A little bodywork should take care of it though. I need to replace the valve cover gasket, piston rings and some suspension components. But I can't bring myslef to let it die. I love it and like you said, it's way ahead of its time. Still starts and runs just as smooth as always.

I just went to a a car auction and bought a 2002 camry for 200 dollars. The car needs an engine. I dont know what happened but I am planning on buying a used engine, and installing it myself. My dad has a 2000 camry that drives like a dream. I do have other cars but I just couldn't pass on this deal. Will be doing the engine swap in my garage. Wish me luck. My wife has the 2002 Lexus ES300 which is basically the same car and it's still her daily driver. I just recently had to do the timing chain and alternator but otherwise the car is holding up great. We have that same breakage on the dash on the passenger side airbag... But overall Still a very reliable and a great car

I have a dark green 02 like this one. 160,000 miles. Incredible cars. Tip: Stay away from Monroe “quick-struts” ... a shop put them on rear of my car, but they’re noisy/stiff. I’m going to have original OEM type shocks/coil springs put back on the car. My valve cover gasket needs replacing, but not too bad to replace.. plenty of videos on KZbin for that. Easy cars to work on.

Just got the 2003 version of this gen for my first car (I'm a late bloomer driver: 38 yo), 203k miles, AT, LE trim. I didn't think much of it at first, but it was the only car with "reliability" that I could find with the increasing used car prices. I honestly fell in love with this car pretty quickly. The only difference between the 02 and 03 I know of is they changed the timing belt to a chain. I'm the second owner of my car and the previous owner clearly had it sit outside, as I do, as the clear coat is peeling on places and the old rear speaker grills deteriorated, but I just got those replaced with new OEM ones. I might vinyl wrap it and add some body kits to make it "mine". The car runs like a dream and also no leaks! She just got a hand wash and wax from me this morning and looks cleaner than 95% of all the other cars on the highway. My clear may be coming off, but at least she ain't caked in dirt and filled with garbage! Also: the tape deck still works! I have used it quite extensively.

In 2016 I bought a 2002 made in Japan SE 2AZ-FE 5-Speed for 5K from the first owner in Kentucky, stock, garage kept, never driven in snow, binder of receipts for everything even has the original window sticker, it had 145K sitting at 155K now. I have a K&N full cold air intake, MR UEL header with full headerback straight pipe to an invidia N1 muffler. Burble tune, lots of suspension goodies. Continental sport contact tires, EBC brakes, rear seats deleted, so much fun in the canyons here in Arizona. A few months ago I had an offer for 9K cash, and I couldn't sell it. This thing has been more reliable and dare I say more fun than my '08 Impreza WRX and it's just as cool as my sleeper Lexus GS400 1UZ V8. I've owned almost 30 cars and I'm shocked that this Camry is the one car I've owned the longest in my life I'm 37 now.

Great video! I have 2002 xle that is exact color as yours :) I have been extremely pleased with this purchase from 5 yrs ago. I do have a question...last year I took it in for oil change and noticed it was leaking oil after that. Took it back to them with complaint and they redid the oil change and said occasionally the oil plug doesn't get tightened properly. But, the car still continues to leak small amounts under the right front side of the car. Any ideas what I should have it cked for? Thanks, not a mechanic just a grandma! I dont want to get ripped off.

that's a good car that will last a long time. well, sounds like they have people working on cars that definitely aren't qualified to do so. I would take a look underneath to see if you see any visible oil leaking from around the oil pan and drain plug. also, look at the oil filter to see if there is oil leaking from around it. I would check around the block to see if you have any gasket leaks or wetness around it. hope this helps 👍

I had a similar issue. I inspected the washer for the oil drain plug. Sure enough it was torn. Now I replace the washer annually. It costs next to nothing. Give it a try.
