Got two flat tires a few years ago. Micro cracks. Interesting, though. The sun kills the rubber. The two tires on one side that are always in the sun were cracked, and not that old. @garykirkpatrick26362 ай бұрын
Yes, tires are made from oil and rubber, the sun leaches the oil out and dries out the tires until they crack and come apart. It’s best to cover them, but it’s also very good to coat them with a “preservative“ I like WALMARTS leak seal power steering fluid. I’m savvy and have tested everything for decades. I use a sponge or a paint sprayer. What I’ve noticed is that the tires actually absorb the power steering fluid. I even use a dip tank to soak extra dry tires in and the cracks actually heal up. Especially helpful for ATV tires maybe dune buggy. It works as a tire preservative, but I wouldn’t be trying to save some 10 or 15-year-old tires and then go out on the freeway at 65 or 75 miles an hour. Just check it yourself the tires absorb their oil so well that you can spray paint the tires clear, I like to use a clear flat and they look brand new and that’s after soaking them for weeks. I work on all kinds of rubber, but don’t get it on your paint on your car if you’re gonna do the trim around the windows tape them off God‘s blessings and best of luck to you.

I'm going to comment before I watch the video. You don't want to let your tank go below a quarter of a tank because the gasoline can sort of act like a coolant and it keeps the fuel pump cool and if it goes below 1/4 of a tank there's less gas in there to cool the fuel pump and heat causes friction and friction causes wear on the fuel pump turn the fuel pump can go out and stopped working

If your leaving your car parked over winter, i wouldnt recommend filling it with gas, as the higher ethanol fuel seperates into water quicker than premium, i reccomend using a fuel stabaliser if storing the vehicle for long periods, but better to drain the tank and then fill it before starting it. This happened with a car i purchased from japan to the uk, the car had sat for over 2 years with a full tank of fuel. The whole fuel tank had rusted because of this and had to replace the tank and fuel pump. So its best to keep very less fuel if parking for long periods such as over 6 months so your tank wont rust...or use a fuel additive that creates a protective layer such as liqimoly

Actually treating 1/2 as empty is a smart idea. Ask anybody who tried to flee Helene or is fleeing Milton how far they get on 1/8 and the gas stations are empty. The roads out of Fort McMurray Alberta were littered with burnt out cars when people tried to flee the flames.

The tip about gasoline is spot on, and something that can be easily overlooked, as people try to squeeze that last mile, thinking the only consequece is a call to road service or a walk to a gas station. Yes, the fuel pump will burnout and burnout quickly.

While personally when I get to a 1/2 tank I think about filling it up like today I filled it up at 3/8 of a tank [14gal on a 21gal tank] you can run it empty as far as you feel comfortable with even all the way to empty if you like. The fuel pump sits in a channeled cavity in the bottom of the tank so you can pump virtually all the fuel out of your tank. While the fuel does act as a lubricant for the bearings, it more importantly acts as a coolant for the electric motor. The pump only runs if the engine is running. You turn the key on and it will run for about 5 seconds and stop if the engine isn't started right then. This is to ensure the fuel system is pressurized for when you do crank and attempt to start the engine. Therefore, if the engine is running the fuel pump has fuel in it to lube and cool it. The moment the pump loses fuel to lube and cool it, the engine will stop and so will the pump. So if you like to run you tank on empty and don't care if you run out of gas, then go ahead and do it, you won't be able to hurt the pump.

I tried to save money by just switching the tires back and forth on one set of wheels, but this backfires because this kept breaking the sidewall.

100% with fuel being above at least 1/4th a tank. Was in Atlanta with some friends and was heading to one of their apartments for the night and knew I was really low, like 20 miles till empty low. I saw a gas station right up the hill along the way and thought I'd stop there when on the middle of the hill, my car just shot off. It wouldn't accelerate, all the lights on the dash turned on, and I had to park it in the median. We checked everything with the car and couldn't figure out the issue so we had to roll/coast it backwards down the hill into a parking lot so it could be towed to a mechanic shop. They came back with the fuel pump needing to be replaced and it was about a $1000 almost $1100 fix 😭 TLDR: Don't let fuel get low!

Japanese service stations put stickers on the driver’s door jam listing the date and mileage when oil, oil filter, and coolant was changed and the next mileage that it should be changed again. Very convenient and they peel off with no issues.

American service centers do the same, but usually on the upper left interior windshield.

@@robertgoodrich8953 good to know. Makes sense for the service centers, keeps customers coming back and revenue flowing. When I go fill up the car the attendant typically checks the tires for wear, wipes the windshield and then checks the stickers. I fill my tank when it gets down to half a tank. I only use one gas station due to the option of filling up with 92 octane gas without ethanol. I fill it up at the halfway point because it hurts me to see how much money I have to spend on fuel. I also use ethanol free fuel because it improves the MPG average by 5-6 miles depending on what kind of driving I’m doing. 2022 Chevy Colorado and my car averages about 20 MPG driving in city and so far my personal best is 30.8 MPG driving to and on the highways on the eastern side of my state. It’s a fully loaded Vehicle with all the bells and whistles and no silly little 4 banger with a turbo strapped to the thing trying to match the capabilities of the 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 engine in my truck. So when you can fill up with 92 octane 10:08 non ethanol fuel and use that cruise control to get the most out of your fuel system.

Check out AGM batteries. If you have a car with lots of infotanement or you simply intend to keep the car for 5+ years, check out AGM batteries. If you have a start stop engine, you will really be much better off with an AGM battery. Focus on the CCA cold crank amps. This is the minimum threshold both in regards to what the car needs and what the battery will kick out.

How many gallons does it actually advertise as the "capacity" to "full" when totally empty? How many gallons do you actually refill with when you decide it's "empty"? Hey Scottie, ALL brake fluid is synthetic. It's either glycol or silicone based, but it's all synthetic. DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 are all glycol and will all mix fine together with no problems and no foaming. DOT 5 is silicone and will foam and will not mix with any of the others. DOT 5 is for show cars (not race cars) because the silicone based fluid is not as harmful to the paint. I avoid DOT 5, but I've mixed DOT 3, 4, & 5.1 for decades with never any issue.

Fuel injection? The fuel can't leak out of them if they are in good condition, air can't get at the fuel so it degrades slower than standing in a fuel tank subject to air/water ingress. Did you leave the fuel tank topped right up...which stops air expanding and contracting and pulling in moisture?

I get my batteries at Sam's club, they really honor the warranty on their batteries, they give you 3 years of warranty and prices are usually double the price of Walmart. I had an issue with my car that was destroying my batteries, had to swap a battery every 3-6 months, so they always replaced no questions ask. They only test the charging of the batteries and confirmed that the battery was bad and gave me a new battery. I believe I just fixed the electrical issue on my car, was a high voltage fuses that were almost at the break point, so it was making too much pressure on the batteries killing them. It took me almost 3 years to find out the issue, so you will see the amount of batteries I would have to purchase if I get them somewhere else. There was no error codes for the almost bad fuses, you can test the fuse and is just fine, so I replaced everything on the car, new alternator, new starter, new relays new low power fuses, I almost trashed the car, till I found a post saying about this hidden high voltage fuses and everything came back to normality.

We had a fuel pump burn out in a '78 FIAT 128. (Don't get me started on that one!) It was because it ran out of gas. Of course it was difficult to find the right fuel pump, so I put a Delco fuel pump on the firewall. If you do that, mount it low. Gravity isn't your friend when the fuel pump is higher than the bottom of the tank.

My father in law was so proud that he had "cheated the system". He shows me his air pump for filling his tires if he has a leak or if he needs to fill his spare. "Now I don't have to keep my spare pumped up" So i pointed out that now he has to not only guarantee that his spare is road worthy, he now has to make sure that his pump is still operational. And if he decided to keep a can of "fix-a-flat", he probably needed to buy that every year or two to make sure it hasn't gone bad. His face kinda dropped after that. He increased his workload, he didn't decrease it. :) It's alot easier to just check your spare and pump it up from time to time.
