@@peacepoet1947 Firstly, w/all due respect... Your handle is 'peacepoet... And yet you say 'you people & speak down to people... Perhaps you didn't do so on purpose🤔 ... 1. You may want to reread my post... (By the way, it does not take a complete tank of bad gas to blow an engine)... 2. Perhaps i'm off base here; however, i get the impression that you haven't had such an experience yourself... 3. One time is too many & can blow the engine... *** Perhaps you aren't concerned about that; although, you may want to keep in mind that IF one has COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE on their auto insurance - it is often (perhaps always) covered! Yup, perhaps you guessed it: it is therefore likely a factor in auto insurance ratings by the underwriters... And THEREFORE, some people (perhaps all) are paying higher rates. Either way, YES, one would believe that should ensure that gas stations etc would be able to simply replace the underground tanks before they can leak... I doubt most gas stations would go to that extent... God Bless Us 1 & all🙏 BTW I DO LIKE YOUR HANDLE🙌

Friends with a Saab mechanic. He told me anything with ethanol is bad. We have a Stewart's here in New York that sells the 91 with no ethanol. Sadly it's a dollar more per gal. than the regular. But I make sure I put that in my car on the regular. Yeah I may cheat here and there and put in 87 or midgrade, but, I won't run it all the time. Plus, I get four extra miles to the gallon with 91 no ethanol!

@doubleL99 Makes sense. I have a gas station that does ethanol-free fuel, but it's so expensive. All modern cars are designed for 10% ethanol, so as long as you're not leaving the car sitting without running it for months, it will be fine.

Alot of people do not know that only two grades of gas are delivered to a station: high or low octane. The mid-grade you pump is site blended as it is being pumped. That doesn't make bad, but it does make it a mystery: what *is* going in the tank anyway?

This went on for quite some time, but long story short, after changing out a sensor and still having the same problem, we eventually figured it must be the gas. The industry has confused folks for like 3/4 century about gasoline by using the stupid terms "premium" and "mid grade". There's nothing cheap about 87 octane. It's the same identical gasoline as 91 or 93, just with less octane in it. Octane increases resistance to ignition (temperature at which fuel burns). Engines set up a certain way require this increased resistance to ignition. If you run 91 (so-called premium) in a system designed to be optimized for 87... you're going to have worse performance and probably more soot dirtying up your engine and exhaust.

I don't know what we're all going to do whenever you decide to call it a day and spend all your time as a man of leisure. My Father made it VERY clear from an early age that he expected me to be able to handle basic car problems (as well as basic maintenance) like a dead battery or a flat tire when I started driving. Between him and boy scouts I was well prepared. However, A LOT 9f people overlook things like having a coat in the trunk for cold/foul weather and perhaps most importantly a basic first aid kit.

He sold me a cap for about 5 bucks. Ok for about 4 months and light came on again. The seal on the cap looked melted and was gooey. I got an o-ring out of the tool crib at work but it was too thin. I used it and the old seal on the old cap and it ok for about a month. Got a cap at Honda dealer for thirty dollars and everything was ok.

I had really bad gas a couple times from different stations back in the mid 80s. The gas from both stations had the same symptoms. If my car was cold I'd have to pump the gas peddle once to set the choke, start the car and let it run at high idle, If I kicked it down it wouldn't stay running when I tried to put it in gear. I'd then have to put it in gear while still running at high idle and go and not stop until my engine was totally up to operating temp or it would stall and would keep stalling every time I restarted it and tried to put it in gear so I'd have to sit and let it idle until the engine warmed up completely. Then once I got where I was going and parked with the engine fully up to temp, when I shut the car off it would diesel for several minutes and even trying to put it in gear wouldn't stop the engine. Thankfully this was when I was a college student so I could never afford to put in more than $5 worth at a time and that would buy just under 5 gallons but if my car was doing this and I added different gas right away it would still have these problems. I'd have to just run it until I burned up most of the bad gas before I bought more fuel and that would fix it. It was brand name gas too, Chevron.

@Michael-uc2pn
@Michael-uc2pn 11 күн бұрын
Long story short if your car is tuned for 91 (says it's required next to the fill cap), it may cause your car to knock. Most modern cars are that require 91 octane though will detect the knocking and adjust the timing/fuel injection/etc to account for the fuel you put in it. They'll just run worse/get less power until you put the right fuel back in it. The safe thing to do is just put the right fuel in your car. 89 is largely useless because the vast majority of cars either require 87 or 91, and using a higher octane rating than your engine is tuned for doesn't have any significant benefit, especially not given the price difference. Oh also since barely anyone needs 89 it's probably not as fresh of fuel.

Started again with the portable starter unit. THIS time car died soon as I removed the portable starter. I cheated, left the portable starter attached under the hood and drove the the battery store. Wondered if alternator was bad. Test showed alternator was actually still good. Tech found the battery had such a serious internal short, it was loading down the entire electrical system. New battery installed, all voltages returned to normal, no further problems. Incidentally, the battery that failed lasted SEVEN years. Certainly got our money's worth from that one!!!

About the starter and the battery: If the battery won't accept a charge sometimes it will produce a condition where the bad battery will suck up so much energy that no matter what you do to try to jump start the car, it won''t start. If the bad battery has some bad cells that suck up power, then there is no way to jump start the car no matter what you do. You could have a huge power source on a huge truck that is rated for a thousand watts. It still can't compete with a bad battery that is sucking it all off to ground so all of that power is still not going to be able to start the car. If you disconnect the bad battery and then try to jump start the car, it will probably work on starting the car. If that is the case, the battery has low resistance and must be replaced. When you replace the battery check if the alternator is actually charging the battery. If all is well in that regard then you have a good working system again and then you are good to go.

I have friends in wheelchairs who have such vehicles. One I saw yesterday at the shopping centre. He is in a wheelchair. The tailgate on his car is a power lift and power close job for obvious reasons, meaning your comment is stupid.
