Westport United proudly and officially opened Phase 2 of their incredible new development at United Park on Sunday, August 25th in front of a huge crowd.
First things first: Without Oisin McGreal this video would not have happened!
One of our own from the Fairgreen but living in Dublin, where he works for the state broadcaster, it was his expertise, his contacts but above all his sense of 'Covieness' that made this possible.
He had his helpers at home in the 'Port - Mick Dalton was his cameraman on the ground and a couple of WUFC lads did some of the lifting, but Oish brought it all together.
The club is indebted to him.
At the start of this project we weren't quite sure what we had in mind or what it would ultimately look like and lead to.
We wanted to project the new development at United Park to as wide an audience as possible and we wanted to encourage more of our people to become patrons.
As time passed by we realised that we couldn't do any of that without doing a deep dive into the club's history and its journey from 1911 to where it is today.
Every facet of the club was explored.
We started in 1911 and ended up in United Park on Sunday, August 25th., 2024. We linked the development of the Sports Park in the forties and fifties to United Park and where it stands today as one of the finest grassroots developments in the country.
We had great fun making this over the past couple of years.
Thanks to everyone who helped along the way and to all in Westport who supplied footage and photographs and the volunteers who allowed us film their sessions and matches.
It wouldn't have happened without you.
