At 21:48, she pulls that herb out of her mouth - when she's going through her mom's things and learns the truth, there's a bottle called "Dittany Of Crete" in the belongings. That is a black herb that in the occult world, is often used in possession rituals. We see a pic of grandma feeding baby Charlie a milk bottle filled with black herbs, and Peter's friend with the long hair under the bleachers who passed him the weed is seen in the treehouse at the end, so that guy was probably lacing Peter's weed, as well.

i love how much is under the surface in this movie. like the best part is that the whole town is secretly satanists and it's ridiculous if you think about it, but in the atmosphere of this movie it just works?

At the dinner scene, Annie sees Peter sneering all the time because it’s Paimon. Just like when Peter has a regular face in class but his reflection is snarky/sneering.

Paimon isn’t in anyone during the dinner scene. He enters Annie next after daddy spontaneously combusts. Then he enters Peter when he jumps out the window after Annie dies. So no. Paimon is just lurking during the dinner scene, causing the added friction during the dinner confrontation. You can always tell when Paimon enters someone because the movie shows the orb when he enters Annie and when he leaves Annie and enters Peter to become the ultimate Paimon form. Watch the director’s commentary bc he points out really cool plot important details.

Also when Peter sees the reflection in the glass at school smiling at him. . . Peter is self aware and HORRIFIED. . so paimon isn’t in Peter yet.. just taunting him and breaking his mind. When Paimon takes over, the original human mind is gone and the human body of the victim becomes a mere vessel getting him closer to his ultimate goal, Peter. So Peter freaking out in school is still very much Peter.

But Peter answers "I don't sneer at you" and Annie says he "doesn't need to" sneer, so this is probably untrue.

My biggest question of the movie is why Peter was being sent to school???? If my son experienced that kind of trauma, he's going to inpatient treatment or partial hospitalization treatment. And the dad asking about SAT prep courses; sir eff them SATs!!! Take him to the lady so he can lie on a couch and explain what happened to him!

Hereditary is one of the greatest psychological horror movies of all time. The story, performance's, musical score, direction, visuals, astomphere, tension, and cinematography was absolutely and positivity horrifying and terrifying.😱😰 It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of trauma and abuse. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍👍💯😎

Toni Collette is the queen, and more than deserved an Oscar for this role. 🙌❤️❤️

Paimon was originally meant to posses Annie's dad or brother, but both men killed themselves before he could do so. Presumably, they both realised what Annie's mom was trying to do, but were written off as mentally ill. The cult were stuck with what to do, so Annie's mom bullied her into having children. Annie on some level knows any children she has will be doomed (hence why she tried to have a miscarriage and tried to kill them when sleepwalking) and so kept Peter away but caved to letting Charlie know her grandma. As a result, Charlie was possesed as a baby by Paimon. TL;DR Charlie is Paimon. But Paimon doesn't want to be a girl. So the witches created this convolted plan to put Paimon in Peter, which succeeds at the end. The tragedy with Annie is: 1. She genuinely loves her kids, but wasn't raised in a loving home and struggles to be a good parent. Her violent behaviour (trying to kill her kids) was her trying to 'save them' quite sincerely. 2. She said at the start that she 'is blamed'. And she is. But really she was just like a doll in a doll house controlled by higher forces.

If you enjoy Toni’s work, please watch "Muriel’s Wedding" ('94), I think you guys would love it! It has an ABBA heavy soundtrack, lol. *And of course, she was amazing in "The Sixth Sense" in ‘99.

I never know how to feel about the end of Charlie's career because yes she's a child but she would have died from the allergic reaction anyway so the tree was probably less painful and faster than the nut allergy. I'm also just always so angry at the mom, I only ever blame her, i can't blame the child because she's a child and they don't take allergies as seriously and her mom didn't give her an EpiPen before she left or even asked about it and I can't blame the son because his sister is gone and he just moved on instinct because he didn't know what else to do

I thought she might have lived, I guess though idk how far the hospital was from that point. the epipen thing was super weird to me bc they're clearly a wealthy family and even though the Mom sucks in so many ways, I never got the feeling that she was 100% neglectful. just like.... 50% lol. but I think it's just one of many things in the movie that -had- to happen, for the ritual to occur etc.

Your sympathies are vastly misplaced. Here’s why: CHARLIE DID NOT DIE BY THE POLE OR NUT ALLERGY. PAIMON LOST HIS HUMAN BODY AND WAS WITHOUT A VESSEL. CHARLIE WAS LONG GONE BY THEN, HAVING BEEN (horrifyingly) EXPELLED AS A BABY AND HER BODY POSSESSED BY PAIMON (see, it’s all even more effed up than you thought isn’t it? 😂). Charlie never really existed. It was Paimon that pole took the head off of. And It would have been soooo much better for everyone if Paimon had stayed that way. Cause Annie didn’t actually bring Charlie back through during the seance, she brought PAIMON through who had become Charlie. The only child to feel sorry for in this film is Peter.
@GoodTimeForARoll
@GoodTimeForARoll Жыл бұрын
@@rebeccahopkins9522 if what you say is true, Charlie was still an innocent child that was done wrong, so I'm still going to feel bad for the baby and child that could have been. Also what you say makes others things make sense, they said the first body was purified so maybe the head removal had to happen

This movie is psychological horror perfection cause TRUE HORROR is tragedy, trauma. The sound design, saxophone by Colin Stetson, cymbals, ALL of it is just utterly brilliant. The only thing I hated truly was....ahem....The Academy idiots who did not at least nominate Toni Collette for her performance 😅 She should have WON an Oscar if you'd ask me, and at least a nominee for the incredibly raw portrayal of grief. It's also quite nice and fun to "tick" people off with Charlie's special noise 😂 I do it quite often when I''m stressed and eh, It really helps.

In the scene where the paint bottle falls over, if you pay attention, she doesn't do it. There's another bright light that comes in through the window and literally knocks it over to fall onto Joanie's number and make Annie look at it. This poor family was being manipulated the entire time and never knew it until probably the very last moment for Peter

to yall's question about charlie eating the cake without checking it: i feel like the beginning where her dad makes the comment about pneumonia and she says that's okay showed that charlie was passively suicidal. whatever her experience was being inundated with paimon from birth made her unconcerned with her own life, it's pretty likely she even hoped to die since that was a key part of the ritual.

So I watched a VERY Long and impressively extensive hereditary explainer vid by Novum. It’s … wow… but one thing he mentioned is there was confusion about the Peter hitting his head on the desk scene. It was a soft prop desk. And the actor said he has the ability to like dislocate his jaw on command basically so he did do that so his face looked messed up, but he didn’t break anything or bloody himself up from that scene besides his legs a little bit (from them hitting the desk underneath). A lot of people were saying he “actually broke his nose” More importantly… everyone was in the cult lmao Most of the background characters were actively plotting and part of it. The person you see thru the window when Peters at school seeing the blue light towards the end is his teacher 😅

Great watch-along. I, like other commenters, really appreciate your honesty about having seen it once. Your reactions for a rewatch are just as good as for a first watch. Where this movie is concerned, I personally found my second watch to be scarier than the first because "Hereditary" is all about dread---relentless and ever-growing dread that builds and builds and does not stop until the final frame of the film. Watching this film is a traumatizing experience. Like Her Majesty Queen of Horror Jamie Lee says, it's a film about trauma, but even worse---it is trauma. I think it stands alone among horror films for expressing cosmic levels of sadness and despair.

So I go to zzavid, nicksaysboo, alanda, Katwatcheshorror for genuine new reactions lol I come here for the fun

I thought ppl carried epipens as a precaution when someone allergies. Adds to parental guilt that that was not thought of.

That's what's creepiest about this is all this cult people watching them orchestrating things to happen watching them that can be realistic people can be watching you plotting stuff and you might not know til its too late like these people or you might notice or get out in time but these people were screwed lol. Plus on tip of that there's a demon watching you too orchestrating stuff plotting stuff lol watching you like you're one of those figures in the miniatures lol like that opening shot lol
