Yeah man, they don't usually get to me anymore but folks were telling me this movie gets to everybody. And boy did it... And the best palette cleanser to help you sleep after a movie has unsettled you to your core is to watch interviews with the actors. And I needed to see Charlie alive and happy. That was important. Of all the fucked up things in this movie her death .. goddamn it's still bothering me. And I thought she might look pretty in an offbeat, unique kind of way - sure enough she does.

I love her answer about her character Charlie: "she's not like anyone else, otherworldly creature who is out-of-place". What at first seems to be description of someone who is kinda weird, alienated, but really she lowkey gives a spoiler without spoiling anything- that line, you understand that it's actually LITERAL after seeing the movie. XD She describes both Charlie as well as Paimon. And that's the character, because Charlie is Paimon, in a body that doesn't suit Paimon, but still. She comes off as a witty, quick-thinking lady here for sure

@SquareNoggin4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't know about that though. She was in the process of becoming Paiman I think, being groomed to become Paiman, or to be a host to Paiman. But that final night was part of the ritual I think, the completion of the ritual, and before that point the demon hadn't fully manifested yet. Obviously there was a change of plans at some point (at several points actually - Annie's brother was meant to be Paiman initially but he killed himself and blamed his mother for putting "someone" inside him, which we're initially meant to believe was just paranoid schizophrenia but ultimately was actually a pretty noble act on his part, killing himself, the host, to deny these cultists the opportunity to summon this demon), but I just wonder what was the point of that final ritual and the cultists celebrating his ascension from Hell if he had already been present in Charlie's body the whole time? Was it just that they needed a replacement because she died? If that was the case, then why bring him into the world if he's just going to inhabit a little girl that's just going to live like a normal little girl who's just a bit strange and offputting? Surely Paiman's plans for his worldly arrival would he more sinister than that... Her grandmother was just preparing her, probably because Annie denied her access to her firstborn son (which we know Paiman prefers) and had maybe set up some kind of satanic link. But I got the impression that Charlie's soul was still present, that she was just there to play a role in the ultimate manifestation that happens at the end. She had been raised from birth to be a conduit for this demon, and likely had some kind of relationship with the demon throughout her life, hence the strange behavior, decapitating the bird, etc. But there was a little girl somewhere in there, whereas at the end Peter's soul is fully gone, and his body is fully inhabited by the demon. Which we can only assume will be used in some kind of apocalyptic reckoning as Paiman and the cultists bring about hell on earth... or something along those lines.
@whitespirit264 жыл бұрын
I don't think either of them were fully possessed, because they didn't act like it. They did, however, clearly show that Paimon influenced them at different times.

And even though she's not in this interview, Toni Collette....I DON'T HAVE WORD for her performance...it was simply mindblowing. The crying, the emotions, facial expressions (the way she portrayed a grieving mother) was Oscar worthy.

This is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The story is so layered that it must be rewatched multiple times to fully appreciate its message. It’s like a puzzle piecing all the information together. Truly brilliant cinema. I came to the conclusion that the ultimate message, is basically what it says on the tin... it’s hereditary. But for the Graham’s, what they have inherited from generations that came before them is hell on earth. Unbeknownst to the Graham family, they all have the Demon Paimon running through their bloodline. (Only the cult are aware of this fact and orchestrate every scenario to help Paimon get a male host) Annie, Peter and Charlie each have their personal “self”, but also in them they have a demon soul bursting to break free and take full control of the host. This excludes the father, who is somewhat a literal and metaphorical saint throughout the movie. We are watching a war of Good vs Evil taking place within each of the main characters. Each one from the mother’s bloodline is tainted with this Demon who ultimately wants to be a male and be the sole ruler / king Paimon, and will kill even its own family members to get there. Annie sleep walking is actually Paimon taking control. This is why she attempts to burn them while they sleep. It’s Paimon trying to destroy any threat to his throne. Even subconsciously, Annie has resentment towards Peter as he is ultimately a better host for Paimon and Annie knows this, subconsciously. You can see they each have basically a split personality. Their true self, and also their inherited Demonic bloodline. It makes you question your own family history and how little we know of where we originally come from, what runs through our own bloodline?? This is ultimately what cut to the core of me after studying this film. Absolute masterful piece of art from Ari Aster. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 way more stuff happens that ties in with this theory but you need to see it for yourself to fully appreciate it. I highly recommend you watch this movie multiple times, it will change you. Thanks for stopping by 💋

@lizardfishmanbearpig1818 Жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you say except the sleeping bit. I think that was her subconscious trying to save her family for their ultimate fate. Besides, if she burned them while sleep walking paimon would have no male host.
