My first time watching Hereditary (2018). SO TERRIFYING. An interesting examination of grief, conspiracy, unsettling images and sound, and a healthy (unhealthy?) dose demonic ritual. Hopefully it's fun to watch me freak out 😅 I hope you enjoyed my Hereditary movie reaction & commentary

Love how deranged and emotionally brutal this film is. Lots of horror films feature trauma and death, but this one reallllly leans into just how SHAKEN such events would really leave people. Great reaction, and good job putting the pieces together re: Charlie, Paimon, and the ritual!

One of the things that scare me the most is how realistically the family tears apart. Trust me, I've had experiences of uncomfortable dinners where someone is mad at someone else and it is so f***ing tense I swear to god. I felt called out. I was watching reality in front of me, not just dread 24 hours a day.

The most disturbing film for me. And the dinner scene is one of the saddest scenes in film history, as is the mother's dream. The visuals and music are perfect and the acting is 10/10. Along with Toni, Gabriel Byrne as the completely broken husband and father is also perfect. Ari Aster's Midsommar is also worth a look.

This movie disturbed me to my core and I loved it! Toni Colette’s performance was perfection and she was snubbed from the Oscars!
@eddietucker7005
@eddietucker7005 Жыл бұрын
Toni being snubbed wasn’t the Academy’s fault. He performance was Oscar worthy, but the studio and producers thought of a really great idea… let’s release a horror film in late spring, early summer! Everyone was saying how amazing she is in it and she deserves the Oscar for her work. But anyone associated with a great film with outstanding performances knows to release in October through December. Then it gets the true Oscar buzz and the voters won’t forget it. What happened with its release date is it was overshadowed by other performances, some not as strong, and put this movie out of sight-out of mind. This happens so many times. Some film’s marketing department will keep at a great release date or keep it in the forefront of the Academy voter’s minds. No one said anything until after the nominations came out and then everyone is yelling, where is Toni Collette’s name!? I hate that this happens but you have to understand the politics and thinking of the Academy voters.

This movie and the Exorcist are the only 2 movies that freaked me out the first time I watched them. The acting in both movies make you feel like you are going through the same thing the people in the movie are. The scene where Charlie loses her head ranks up there with what Regan does with the crucifix in the Exorcist as the most shocking I have ever witnessed.

If you pause on the book Annie opens when it talk about Paemon, the text is actual real text about this demon that goes back to biblical writings, you’ll read the book says Paemon is a Trixter “ as one of the Kings of Hell, one of the gifts the devil gave it was to be a Trixer , able to manipulate what those it is tourmenting see. Showing Peter his smiling reflection, Paemon had Annie seeing her shirt on fire and put it out as she stomps the book out. Burning the book doesn’t set anyone in fire , Paemon does. It implied to Annie the one linked to the book burns, Paemon then burns her husband “tricking” Annie so she realizes she was wrong and just killed her husband by fire which she didn’t , it’s Parmon but broke her. Also the finger of the pointing hand on his staff points to the Northwest where it resides. The text says it rides a camel in hell carrying the 3 heads, Paemon is released according to the book when the head of the one he is possessing is removed, so he cut Annie’s head off because he’s floating above Peter seeing his mom cut her own head off to break his will and anxious to get in his much desired male body. Many wonder if peters alive still and possessed,.when he jumps out the window and lands in the flower bed, a teenage male couldn’t die falling from a 2nd story window landing in landscape dirt,..but more importantly a demon in Christian belief can not animate a dead body , it has to be alive , so if Peter died Paemon couldn’t get into his body and get up. The confusion is watch just before the orb goes into Peters back,..you see a shadow leave Peters body. I think that’s a mistake. In possession the soul of the body remains inside the body. Paemon first gets into Peters body when he smashes peters face, trying to break him down but he wasn’t broken enough yet. All the cult members could have easilly grabbed Peter or stood in front of the window but “committing suicide is believed to be a sin , so Peter seeing the only way out of this is to kill himself his only option is jumping out the window to die , but Paemon and the cult know he’s not going to die jumping 12’ to flower head soil but that final choice was the final break down of peters willpower. The Kings of Hell have their minions that impose their will, they would be what carried Annie’s headless body to Paemons tree house. Your explanation of what the cult members would be “rewarded” with for getting it into a male host was exactly right, money corrupts the soul , the cult members would become insanely wealthy over time and be building massive corporations that would function off rules of greed , exploiting , all of this to get so many corrupted and the wealthiest of the world to infiltrate governments, bribery to officials, bringing hood people on and corrupting them through money . As the absolute earthiest on earth absolutely have peer today in society but these cult members do this to build a kingdom for Paemon. An intersting point is that the demon borbSatan rewards isn’t rewarding the cult members for them to retire and have a happy life, “rewards” don’t exist in Hell, everything a demon or demon king does is solely to inflict miserly on humanity , to tourment and temp , corrupt everywhere , to make humanity miserable , infiltrating or paying off the elete Government, use funds to set up the elete and manipulate all these things. Paemon making them rich is only a tool for them to use to tourment society and grow this greedy underbelly to tempt, hold hostage , blackmail, corrupt others. Nothing in hell is rewarded , it will make them rich for thst sole purpose of also bringing them more misery ultimately everywhere. Think of Epstein and that’s exactly what these cult memebrs would operate. Epstein used his wealth to gain power , he befriended goverment officials are flown to his island or wherever as well as the girls who were intentionally underage , gave them a bunch of these girls and had hidden cameras always on in every room to be able to blackmail them. Epstein built the massive amounts of locations of the powerful and elite of the country everything recorddd so he’d always have an out of any trouble. to break as many as possible , in return , that now has blackmail images so that FOR SURE when those he sets up underage sex for decide they’re worried he might say so they decide not to bail him out , he could then call them again and blackmail them to get him out. Frustratingly when it became knowledge this roster of everyone and what they did with who, money exchanged and it existed , the elite couldn’t let it be discovered so somehow l”hung himself” in solitary had to be killed to “kee the secret “”safe”” a Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive was probably one of the most powerful / protected “elite@ in the world., a pedophile that made sec with underage girls a “safe, secret” endulgement for anyone in power . In the end, if he hadn’t been “killed” by “himself” the book of records he could trade to get out , but the electric and governent would collapse .

LOVED your reactions! Such great direction from a first time director. The shots were so interesting. I also liked the opening scenes, as you did, of how the camera pans into a doll house and changes into an actual room. There is one shot that is amazing that no one catches because it is short. It’s when they are at Charlie’s graveside funeral. Toni Collette is destroyed in the long shot that shows Charlie’s casket being lowered into the grave. The camera is level to the casket and lowers as the casket does, and continues into the ground so that you can see and feel what it is like to be lowered into a grave! It makes you think that this is going to happen to me someday, which of course, it is. But now you can visualize it with your living eyes, unlike not being able to once your dead. A funny gaff that they should have thought of sooner and avoided was the ever-expanding treehouse. At first, it big enough for Charlie and a space heater. The it gets a little bit bigger so that Toni and two space heaters fit comfortably. At the end, it is big enough to have two headless, mother/daughter duo of corpses bowing, one full size standing idol with Charlie’s decapitated head on it, Peter, and a congregation of naked people fitting comfortably in this treehouse! Wow! Can you imagine what the rent would be on an expanding room!? CLUCK!!!!!

I love watching ppl discover my favorite horror movie of all time. I like your reaction. I'm subbing to see what's next. From the jump, Toni Collette was trying to save Peter from the cult and the P monster (I don't say their names). Remember in the sleep walking scene where she was telling Peter she didn't want to kill him, she was trying to SAVE him? She'd rather kill him than to have him get taken over, but how hard would that be to have to do that? I'm only halfway thru the reaction so idk if you'll catch other stuff in the last 15 minutes but I'll come back to here. I noticed you didn't catch Mom in the upper corner of his bedroom before she was downstairs in the upper corner of the living room. The cult was naked and outside the very next scene after the husband burned and Toni was taken over.

1. Toni Colette should have been nominated for Best Actress. 2. How frustrating for the King of Hell to not only be a female, but to be allergic to nuts. If the king of hell can’t enjoy a Hershey bar with almonds, what is the meaning of it all? 3. I always thought that the last line of that movie should have been from Paimon: “If this male host is so healthy, why is my nose killing me?” All kidding aside, what a great movie! Gradnmother was a member of a demon worshiping cult. The name of the demon was Paimon, who preferred a male host. It was indicated, that accidentally demon ended up possessing Charlie right from the birth, hence the feeling that smth was seriosly off with her, for she never was really human. The whole plot was to transfer Paimon from Charlie to Peter's body, so that demon could manifest himself in the physical world.

Well, that reaction gave me a few chuckles! I'm just weird when it comes to horror films...very little actually scares me unless it's a giant green baby floating through space in a G-rated classic. This one tried really hard and came close, but I'm still looking for that movie that really terrifies the hell out of me as an adult. I did love the cinematography and acting in this, and why is Toni always playing the mother of a disturbed ghostie weird kid? Come to think of it, Jacob's Ladder pretty much terrified and haunted me, and even that one is not considered a conventional horror film.

The scariest movies are about humans. Serial killers, etc. I.e. reality. Paranormal spooky stuff just has too high of a bar. That being said, this one was convincing enough to let me drop my guard a bit and suspend disbelief. At least mostly. And this is why his other great film, Midsommar is a bit more "scary" (except you were kind of rooting for the villagers in the end). Absolutely zero paranormal stuff.

A new modern classic A+. I like the actor playing Peter, he's from the Jeffrey Dahmer Prequel "My Friend Dahmer" based on a book from one of his HS classmates/friends

This movie truly terrified me the score in it keeps you on edge the whole time Toni Collette is slowly becoming one of my favorite actresses. I hated her so much in this.

Midsommar ties to this movie , parallels in opposites , it’s not as scary but beautifully shot with amazing music but disturbing. If you’ve seen this watch dead meat channels things you missed /Easter eggs or any of the amazing videos there are about this movie becasue I guarantee you missed at least a good 75% of the hidden things and the dark shots why’s lurking in the dark if you really pay attention it’s all through the movie . Amazing!

This film is so excellent. Paranormal horror is so hard to pull off because the suspension of disbelief is such a high bar. That's why the Exorcist isn't scary at all. It is only scary to the religious (believers in magic and sorcery) and utterly relies on that. Hereditary, though, makes it more about humans doing nefarious things + imagery, and that's Infinity more scary.

Awkward confession: I have a problem with this film no one else does. For a movie called Hereditary, a concept very key to the plot, I think the son looks adopted. Good actor and performance, but it kept taking me out of the movie. Loved Midsommar, though

I will have absolutely nothing to do with this movie. The anti-family and anti-free will message is a nonstarter for me. (symbolically spits on the film reel to show his disgust) I'll see you next time.
